Metabolic diseases are serious threats to public health and related to gut microbiota. Probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and postbiotics (PPSP) are powerful regulators of gut microbiota, thus ...possessing prospects for preventing metabolic diseases. Therefore, the effects and mechanisms of PPSP on metabolic diseases targeting gut microbiota are worth discussing and clarifying. Generally, PPSP benefit metabolic diseases management, especially obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The underlying gut microbial-related mechanisms are mainly the modulation of gut microbiota composition, regulation of gut microbial metabolites, and improvement of intestinal barrier function. Moreover, clinical trials showed the benefits of PPSP on patients with metabolic diseases, while the clinical strategies for gestational diabetes mellitus, optimal formula of synbiotics and health benefits of postbiotics need further study. This review fully summarizes the relationship between probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics, and metabolic diseases, presents promising results and the one in dispute, and especially attention is paid to illustrates potential mechanisms and clinical effects, which could contribute to the next research and development of PPSP.

The outbreak of the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) has caused enormous stress among the public in China. Intellectual input from various aspects is needed to fight against COVID-19, including ...understanding of the public's emotion and behaviour and their antecedents from the psychological perspectives. Drawing upon the cognitive appraisal theory, this study examined three cognitive appraisals (i.e., perceived severity, perceived controllability, and knowledge of COVID-19) and their associations with a wide range of emotional and behavioural outcomes among the Chinese public.
Participants were 4607 citizens (age range: 17-90 years, Mage = 23.71 years) from 31 provinces in China and they took part in a cross-sectional survey online.
The results showed that the public's emotional and behavioural reactions were slightly affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. Moreover, the public had limited participation in the events regarding COVID-19 but actively engaged in precautionary behaviour. In addition, results of structural equation model with latent variables revealed that the three appraisals were differentially related to the outcome variables (i.e., negative emotion, positive emotion, sleep problems, aggression, substance use, mobile phone use, social participation, and precautionary behaviour).
The findings highlight the utility of cognitive appraisal, as a core process of coping stress, in explaining the public's emotion and behaviour in the encounter of public health concern. Practically, the findings facilitate the government and practitioners to design and deliver targeted intervention programs to the public.
Computer vision measurement systems have become more and more widely used in industrial production processes. Traditional manual measurement methods cannot guarantee product quality. Therefore, it is ...of great significance to improve the technology level of the manufacturing industry to study the automatic measurement system for the dimension of shaft parts with low cost, high precision, and high efficiency. A geometric part measurement system for shaft parts based on machine vision is presented in this paper. It uses the CCD camera to get the image. First, it preprocesses the collected images. In view of the influence of the noise and other factors, the wavelet denoising is used to denoise the image. Then, an improved single pixel edge detection method is proposed based on the Canny detection operator to extract the edge contour of the part image. Finally, the geometrical quantity algorithm is applied to the measurement research, and the measured data are obtained and analyzed. The experimental results show that the repeatability error of the system is less than 0.01 mm.
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanomaterials, such as boron nitride nanotubes, boron nitride nanofibers, and boron nitride nanosheets, are among the most promising inorganic nanomaterials in recent ...years. Their unique properties, including high mechanical stiffness, wide band gap, excellent thermal conductivity, and thermal stability, suggest many potential applications in various engineering fields. In particular, h-BN nanomaterials have been widely used as functional fillers to fabricate high-performance polymer nanocomposites. Like other nanomaterials, prior to their utilization in nanocomposites, surface modification of h-BNs is often necessary in order to prevent their strong tendency to aggregate, and to improve their dispersion and interfacial properties in polymer nanocomposites. However, the high chemical inertness and resistance to oxidation of h-BNs make it rather difficult to functionalize h-BNs. The methods frequently used to oxidize graphitic carbon nanomaterials are not quite successful on h-BNs. Therefore, many novel approaches have been studied to modify h-BN nanostructures. In this review, different surface modification strategies were discussed including various covalent and non-covalent surface modification strategies through wet or dry chemical routes. Meanwhile, the effects of these surface modification methods on the resulting material structures and properties were also reviewed. At last, a number of theoretical studies on the reactivity of h-BNs with different chemical agents have been conducted to explore new surface modification routes, which were also addressed in this review.

Lateral hypothalamus (LH) neurons containing the neuropeptide hypocretin (HCRT; orexin) modulate affective components of arousal, but their relevant synaptic inputs remain poorly defined. Here we ...identified inputs onto LH neurons that originate from neuronal populations in the bed nuclei of stria terminalis (BNST; a heterogeneous region of extended amygdala). We characterized two non-overlapping LH-projecting GABAergic BNST subpopulations that express distinct neuropeptides (corticotropin-releasing factor, CRF, and cholecystokinin, CCK). To functionally interrogate BNST→LH circuitry, we used tools for monitoring and manipulating neural activity with cell-type-specific resolution in freely behaving mice. We found that Crf-BNST and Cck-BNST neurons respectively provide abundant and sparse inputs onto Hcrt-LH neurons, display discrete physiological responses to salient stimuli, drive opposite emotionally valenced behaviors, and receive different proportions of inputs from upstream networks. Together, our data provide an advanced model for how parallel BNST→LH pathways promote divergent emotional states via connectivity patterns of genetically defined, circuit-specific neuronal subpopulations.
Carbonate reservoirs worldwide are complex in structure, diverse in form, and highly heterogeneous. Based on these characteristics, the reservoir stimulation technologies and fluid flow ...characteristics of carbonate reservoirs are briefly described in this study. The development methods and EOR technologies of carbonate reservoirs are systematically summarized, the relevant mechanisms are analyzed, and the application status of oil fields is catalogued. The challenges in the development of carbonate reservoirs are discussed, and future research directions are explored. In the current development processes of carbonate reservoirs, water flooding and gas flooding remain the primary means but are often prone to channeling problems. Chemical flooding is an effective method of tertiary oil recovery, but the harsh formation conditions require high-performance chemical agents. The application of emerging technologies can enhance the oil recovery efficiency and environmental friendliness to a certain extent, which is welcome in hard-to-recover areas such as heavy oil reservoirs, but the economic cost is often high. In future research on EOR technologies, flow field control and flow channel plugging will be the potential directions of traditional development methods, and the application of nanoparticles will revolutionize the chemical EOR methods. On the basis of diversified reservoir stimulation, combined with a variety of modern data processing schemes, multichannel EOR technologies are being developed to realize the systematic, intelligent, and cost-effective development of carbonate reservoirs.
