Thermally conductive polymer composites with satisfactory mechanical performances are highly required for practical thermal management applications as thermal interface materials. Herein, ...all-graphitized graphene aerogels with highly aligned graphene network are fabricated with graphene oxide hydrogels as the precursor by directional-freezing followed by freeze-drying and subsequent graphitization at 2800 °C, which exhibit excellent thermal and electrical conductions and superelasticity. Thanks to the vertically aligned conductance network composed by the graphitized graphene sheets, an epoxy composite with only 0.75 vol% of the high-quality graphene exhibits an excellent vertical thermal conductivity of 6.57 W/(mK), which is among the highest through-plane thermal conductivities of polymer composites at similar loading of carbon nanofillers, and more than 37 times higher than that of neat epoxy matrix. The thermally and electrically conductive composite also exhibits greatly improved storage modulus, compressive strength and compressive strain at break.

This article examines the status politics in Chinese foreign policy and its implications on China-U.S. relations. The analysis of status recognition and the role it plays in Chinese diplomacy reveals ...the motivating factors behind China’s quest for respect in the international arena and the centrality of national identity in China’s status aspiration. Viewed from the socio-psychological perspective, China’s tenacious struggle to gain a prominent international status is a social action aimed at forging its identity security, whereby the Chinese “self” will interact on equal terms with the foreign “other.” Based on the argument, this paper compares Chinese and American role conceptions and dissects the status dilemma between the two powers by exploring the dynamics of disrespect in their status relations. The two nations’ distinctive self-role conceptions and their role expectations of the interacting parties have led to a widening gap between China’s international status that entitles it to equal treatment and the one accorded by the United States. The disquieting condition of this status dissonance has motivated Beijing to disrupt the asymmetric hierarchy wherein it used to exhibit deference to Washington. The effort of the established hegemon in upending the defiance of the status contestant has exacerbated the status dilemma, which has given rise to the current China-U.S. malaise.
Image retargeting technology has been widely studied to adapt images for the devices with heterogeneous screen resolutions. Meanwhile effective objective retargeting quality assessment algorithms are ...also very important for optimizing and selecting favorable retargeting methods. Unlike previous assessment algorithms which rely on image local structure features and unidirectional prediction of information loss, we propose a bi-directional natural salient scene distortion model (BNSSD) including image natural scene statistics (NSS) measurement, salient global structure distortion measurement, and bi-directional salient information loss measurement. First, we propose a new NSS model in log-Gabor domain and verify its effectiveness in reflecting nature scene statistical distortions introduced during the retargeting process. Second, the concept of salient global structure distortion is proposed to measure the global structure uniformity in the corresponding salient regions between original and retargeted images. Finally, we propose a bidirectional salient information loss metric to measure the information loss between salient areas in original image and retargeted image. The effectiveness of the BNSSD model is verified on two widely recognized public databases, and the experimental results show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms under different statistical assessment criteria.

•Newly-designed Carboxymethyl cellulose and Graphene Oxide Bio-Nanocomposites.•Excellent switching behaviors of the memory device based on CMC-GO composites.•Flexibility for the ...applications of flexible storage applications.
Nowadays the development of natural biomaterials as promising building polymers for flexible, biodegradable, biocompatible and environmentally friendly electronic devices is of great interest. As the most common natural polymers, cellulose and its derivatives have the potential to be applied in the devices owing to the easy processing, nontoxicity and biodegradability. Here, write-once-read-many-times resistive switching devices based on biodegradable carboxymethyl cellulose-graphene oxide (CMC-GO) nanocomposite are demonstrated for the first time. The hybridization sites formed by the gelation of CMC and GO molecules contribute to the excellent memory behaviors. When compared with devices base on pure GO and CMC, the device with the Al/CMC-GO/Al/SiO2 structure exhibits brilliant write-once-read-many-times (WORM) switching characteristics such as high ON/OFF current ratio of ˜105, low switching voltage of 2.22 V, excellent stability and durability. What's more, the device shows high flexibility and good resistive switching behaviors even with soft PET substrate (Al/CMC-GO/Al/PET structure). This newly designed cellulose-graphene oxide-based polymer nanocomposites are quite cheap and easy processed for large scale manufacturing of memory devices and can further contribute to future biodegradable data storage applications such as portable stretchable displays, wearable electronics and electronic skins in the coming age of artificial intelligence.
HER2-low breast cancers were reported to have distinct clinicopathological characteristics from HER2-zero; however, the difference in their genetic features remains unclear. This study investigated ...the clinical and molecular features of breast tumors according to HER2 status.
We analyzed the clinicopathological and genomic data of 523 Chinese women with breast cancer. Genomic data was generated by targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) of breast tumor samples using a commercial 520 gene panel. The cohort was stratified according to HER2 status as HER2-zero (n = 90), HER2-low (n = 231), and HER2-positive (n = 202) according to their immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization results.
HER2-low breast tumors were enriched with hormone receptor-positive tumors, and who had lower Ki67 expression levels. Genes were differentially mutated across HER2 subgroups. HER2-low tumors had significantly more mutations involved in PI3K-Akt signaling than HER2-positive (p < 0.001) and HER2-zero breast tumors (p < 0.01). HER2-zero tumors had more mutations in checkpoint factors (p < 0.01), Fanconi anemia (p < 0.05), and p53 signaling and cell cycle pathway (p < 0.05) compared to HER2-low breast tumors. Compared with HER2-zero tumors, HER2-low tumors had significantly lower pathological complete response rates after neoadjuvant therapy (15.9% vs. 37.5%, p = 0.042) and proportion of relapsed/progressed patients across follow-up time points (p = 0.031), but had comparable disease-free survival (p = 0.271).
Our results demonstrate the distinct clinical and molecular features and clinical outcomes of HER2-low breast tumors.
Muscone is the main chemical ingredient in Musk which is main crude drug in Tongqiaohuoxue decoction (TQHXD), and TQHXD has a protective effect on damaged neurons, so we hypothesize that muscone can ...alter blood–brain barrier (BBB) permeability via the modulation of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) expression. In this study, astrocytes (AC) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (ECV304) were co-cultured to simulate the BBB model in vitro. Leak testing, transmembrane resistance experiments, and BBB-specific enzyme testing were used to test whether the model was successful. Different concentrations of muscone permeating the BBB were detected by gas chromatography (GC). The change of the transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) on the BBB in vitro after treating with muscone was detected by Millicell-ERS. The protein expression of P-gp, MMP-9 in normal, and oxygen/glucose deprivation (OGD) BBB model was determined by western blotting to inquire that the mechanism of muscone penetrates the BBB model in vitro. The results show that muscone was detected in the lower medium of the BBB model by GC; the values of TEER were no significant difference before and after muscone (8 μM) was added to the BBB model; the expression of P-gp significantly decreased after the BBB model treatment with muscone (4, 8, and 16 μM) for 24 h; the expression of P-gp and MMP-9 in different concentrations of muscone groups had different degrees of reduction compared with the BBB in the state of OGD. In conclusion, muscone could permeate the BBB model, and it was associated with the inhibition of P-gp and MMP-9 expression. An understanding of the mechanisms of muscone across the BBB is crucial to the development of therapeutic modalities for cerebral vascular diseases.
In industrial process control systems, there is overwhelming evidence corroborating the notion that economic or technical limitations result in some key variables that are very difficult to measure ...online. The data-driven soft sensor is an effective solution because it provides a reliable and stable online estimation of such variables. This paper employs a deep neural network with multiscale feature extraction layers to build soft sensors, which are applied to the benchmarked Tennessee-Eastman process (TEP) and a real wind farm case. The comparison of modelling results demonstrates that the multiscale feature extraction layers have the following advantages over other methods. First, the multiscale feature extraction layers significantly reduce the number of parameters compared to the other deep neural networks. Second, the multiscale feature extraction layers can powerfully extract dataset characteristics. Finally, the multiscale feature extraction layers with fully considered historical measurements can contain richer useful information and improved representation compared to traditional data-driven models.
Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that immune-related lncRNAs (IRLs) are commonly aberrantly expressed in breast cancer (BC). Thus, we aimed to establish an IRL-based tool to improve prognosis ...prediction in BC patients.
We obtained IRL expression profiles in large BC cohorts (N = 911) from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Then, in light of the correlation between each IRL and recurrence-free survival (RFS), we screened prognostic IRL signatures to construct a novel RFS nomogram via a Cox regression model. Subsequently, the performance of the IRL-based model was evaluated through discrimination, calibration ability, risk stratification ability and decision curve analysis (DCA).
A total of 52 IRLs were obtained from TCGA. Based on multivariate Cox regression analyses, four IRLs (A1BG-AS1, AC004477.3, AC004585.1 and AC004854.2) and two risk parameters (tumor subtype and TNM stage) were utilized as independent indicators to develop a novel prognostic model. In terms of predictive accuracy, the IRL-based model was distinctly superior to the TNM staging system (AUC: 0.728 VS 0.673, P = 0.010). DCA indicated that our nomogram had favorable clinical practicability. In addition, risk stratification analysis showed that the IRL-based tool efficiently divided BC patients into high- and low-risk groups (P < 0.001).
A novel IRL-based model was constructed to predict the risk of 5-year RFS in BC. Our model can improve the predictive power of the TNM staging system and identify high-risk patients with tumor recurrence to implement more appropriate treatment strategies.
Al2O3-CaO-Cr2O3 castables are used in various furnaces due to excellent corrosion resistance and sufficient early strength, but toxic Cr(VI) generation during service remains a concern. Here, we ...investigated the relative reactivity of analogous Cr(III) phases such as Cr2O3, (Al1−xCrx)2O3 and in situ Cr(III) solid solution with the calcium aluminate cement under an oxidizing atmosphere at various temperatures. The aim is to comprehend the relative Cr(VI) generation in the low-cement castables (Al2O3-CaO-Cr2O3-O2 system) and achieve an environment-friendly application. The solid-state reactions and Cr(VI) formation were investigated using powder XRD, SEM, and leaching tests. Compared to Cr2O3, the stability of (Al1−xCrx)2O3 against CAC was much higher, which improved gradually with the concentration of Al2O3 in (Al1−xCrx)2O3. The substitution of Cr2O3 with (Al1−xCrx)2O3 in the Al2O3-CaO-Cr2O3 castables could completely inhibit the formation of Cr(VI) compound CaCrO4 at 500–1100 °C and could drastically suppress Ca4Al6CrO16 generation at 900 to 1300 °C. The Cr(VI) reduction amounting up to 98.1% could be achieved by replacing Cr2O3 with (Al1−xCrx)2O3 solid solution. However, in situ stabilized Cr(III) phases as a mixture of (Al1−xCrx)2O3 and Ca(Al12−xCrx)O19 solid solution hardly reveal any reoxidation. Moreover, the CA6 was much more stable than CA and CA2, and it did not participate in any chemical reaction with (Al1−xCrx)2O3 solid solution.
Schistosomiasis is one of the most contagious parasitic diseases affecting humans; however, glomerular injury is a rare complication mainly described with Schistosoma mansoni infection. We report a ...case of membranous nephropathy associated with Schistosoma japonicum infection in a Chinese man.
A 51-year-old Chinese male with a long history of S. japonicum infection presented to the hospital with a slowly progressing severe lower limb edema and foaming urine for over 5 months. Serum S. japonicumantigen test was positive and immunohistochemistry showed that the glomeruli were positive for the antigens. The renal pathologic diagnosis was stage III membranous nephropathy. The patient was treated with glucocorticoid, praziquantel, and an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. The edema in both lower limbs disappeared within 2 weeks, but his renal function declined progressively and proteinuria persisted after 5 months of therapy.
Different classes of schistosomal glomerulopathy have completely different clinical manifestation and prognosis. Therefore, efforts should focus on alleviating symptoms, prevention, and early detection. S. japonicumassociated with membranous nephropathy may show a good curative effect and prognosis. However, it is necessary to monitor the renal function in such patients.
