We examined the influence of the cytochrome P450 3A5 (CYP3A5) genes in both donors and recipients on the concentration-dosage ratio (C/D) of tacrolimus in Chinese liver transplant patients. Fifty-one ...adult liver transplant patients who received tacrolimus were included in this study. The CYP3A5 polymorphism in donors and recipients was determined at the time of transplantation, and tacrolimus-based immunosuppressive therapy was started based on each patient's genetic constitution. The relationship between the C/D of tacrolimus for 3 months after surgery and the CYP3A5 genotype was analyzed. A stepwise regression model was used to analyze the relationship between C/D of tacrolimus and genotype, time course, age, and liver weight in liver transplant patients. Three months after liver transplantation, C/D was both affected by the CYP3A5 genotype of both the donors and the recipients. The C/D of tacrolimus in patients with the CYP3A5*1 allele or carrying CYP3A5*1 allele in the liver was lower than that in CYP3A5*3/*3 patients with the CYP3A5*3/*3 genotype in the liver (P < 0.01). The CYP3A5*1 genotype in donors as well as in patients both contributes to interindividual variation in the C/D of tacrolimus in adult liver transplantation.
Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease is the most common inherited motor and sensory neuropathy. We have previously described a large Chinese CMT family and assigned the locus underlying the disease ...(CMT2L; OMIM 608673) to chromosome 12q24. Here, we report a novel c.423G-->T (Lys141Asn) missense mutation of small heat-shock protein 22-kDa protein 8 (encoded by HSPB8), which is also responsible for distal hereditary motor neuropathy type (dHMN) II. No disease-causing mutations have been identified in another 114 CMT families.
We propose an improved design of variable optical attenuator (VOA) using a micromachined elliptical mirror, which offers the advantages of both the shutter-type VOAs and the flat-mirror ...reflection-type VOAs while overcoming their problems. This design positions the input and output fibers at the two focal centers of the reflective elliptical mirror. Since the ellipse can focus the light from one center to the other, the VOA enjoys low insertion loss while using the normally cleaved single-mode fibers. As the mirror is displaced, the input beam is rapidly defocused, producing a large attenuation range without requiring a large mirror displacement. This VOA also has low polarization dependence loss (PDL), low wavelength dependence loss (WDL), and low back reflection. It is fabricated by the deep reactive ion etching process and achieves 44-dB attenuation at 10.7-V driving voltage. The PDL is 0.8 dB at the 40-dB attenuation level and the WDL is 1.2 dB at the 20-dB level for 100-nm wavelength change. More importantly, the measurement shows that attenuation has a nearly linear relationship with the mirror displacement over a 30-dB attenuation range.

We experimentally investigate the soliton pairs in a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser with large normal cavity dispersion. By adjusting the polarization state, four different kinds of ...soliton pairs are achieved. The pulses in soliton pairs exhibit different temporal separations, and show randomly distributed spikes on the top-flat of spectra. The pulse–pulse interactions in the soliton pairs are investigated, and it is suggested that the pulse separation, pulse duration, and their relative intensities all determine the strength of pulse interactions.

This paper reports that an ionic liquid has been prepared by directly mixing FeCl3 and 1--methyl--3--butylimidazolium chloride (BMIC) with molar ratio 1/1 under dry argon atmosphere. We determined ...the densities, and surface tension of the pure ionic liquid (IL) in temperature range from 283*15 to 343*15+ /--0*1K. The volumetric properties and the properties of surface for ionic liquid were discussed. The interstice theory is put forward and the thermal expansion coefficient, alpha, calculated using the new theory is in good agreement with experimental value.
The study of the Cabibbo-favored semileptonic decay Λ c+ → Λ e+νe is reported using a 4.5 fb-1 data sample of e+e- annihilations collected at center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 GeV to 4.699 ...GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The branching fraction of the decay is measured to be B ( Λ c+ → Λ e+νe ) = ( 3.56±0.11stat±0.07syst ) % , which is the most precise measurement to date. Furthermore, we perform an investigation of the internal dynamics in Λ c+ → Λ e+νe . We provide the first direct comparisons of the differential decay rate and form factors with those predicted from lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD) calculations. Combining the measured branching fraction with a q2 -integrated rate predicted by LQCD, we determine | Vcs | =0.936±0.017 B ±0.024LQCD±0.007τ Λ c .
