This paper presents and implements a novel remote attestation method to ensure the integrity of a device applicable to decentralized infrastructures, such as those found in common edge computing ...scenarios. Edge computing can be considered as a framework where multiple unsupervised devices communicate with each other with lack of hierarchy, requesting and offering services without a central server to orchestrate them. Because of these characteristics, there are many security threats, and detecting attacks is essential. Many remote attestation systems have been developed to alleviate this problem, but none of them can satisfy the requirements of edge computing: accepting dynamic enrollment and removal of devices to the system, respecting the interrupted activity of devices, and last but not least, providing a decentralized architecture for not trusting in just one Verifier. This security flaw has a negative impact on the development and implementation of edge computing-based technologies because of the impossibility of secure implementation. In this work, we propose a remote attestation system that, through using a Trusted Platform Module (TPM), enables the dynamic enrollment and an efficient and decentralized attestation. We demonstrate and evaluate our work in two use cases, attaining acceptance of intermittent activity by IoT devices, deletion of the dependency of centralized verifiers, and the probation of continuous integrity between unknown devices just by one signature verification.
Co-based amorphous microwires presenting the giant magnetoimpedance effect are proposed as sensing elements for high sensitivity biosensors. In this work we report an experimental method for ...contactless detection of stress, temperature, and liquid concentration with application in medical sensors using the giant magnetoimpedance effect on microwires in the GHz range. The method is based on the scattering of electromagnetic microwaves by FeCoSiB amorphous metallic microwires. A modulation of the scattering parameter is achieved by applying a magnetic bias field that tunes the magnetic permeability of the ferromagnetic microwires. We demonstrate that the OFF/ON switching of the bias activates or cancels the amorphous ferromagnetic microwires (AFMW) antenna behavior. We show the advantages of measuring the performing time dependent frequency sweeps. In this case, the AC-bias modulation of the scattering coefficient versus frequency may be clearly appreciated. Furthermore, this modulation is enhanced by using arrays of microwires with an increasing number of individual microwires according to the antenna radiation theory. Transmission spectra show significant changes in the range of 3 dB for a relatively weak magnetic field of 15 Oe. A demonstration of the possibilities of the method for biomedical applications is shown by means of wireless temperature detector from 0 to 100 °C.
The specific demands of supply chains built upon large and complex IoT systems, make it a must to design a coordinated framework for cyber resilience provisioning, intended to guarantee trusted ...supply chains of ICT systems, built upon distributed, dynamic, potentially insecure, and heterogeneous ICT infrastructures. As such, the solution proposed in this paper is envisioned to deal with the whole supply chain system components, from the IoT ecosystem to the infrastructure connecting them, addressing security and privacy functionalities related to risks and vulnerabilities management, accountability, and mitigation strategies, as well as security metrics and evidence-based security assurance. In this paper, we present FISHY as a preliminary architecture that is designed to orchestrate existing and beyond state-of-the-art security appliances in composed ICT scenarios. To this end, the FISHY architecture leverages the capabilities of programmable networks and IT infrastructure through seamless orchestration and instantiation of novel security services, both in real-time and proactively. The paper also includes a thorough business analysis to go far beyond the technical benefits of a potential FISHY adoption, as well as three real-world use cases highlighting the envisioned benefits of a potential FISHY adoption.
La acondroplasia requiere un seguimiento multidisciplinario, con el objetivo de prevenir y manejar las complicaciones, mejorar la calidad de vida y favorecer su independencia e inclusión social. Esta ...revisión se justifica por las múltiples publicaciones generadas en los últimos años que han llevado a cabo un cambio en su gestión. Se han desarrollado diferentes guías y recomendaciones, entre las que destacan la realizada por la Academia Americana de Pediatría en 2005 recientemente actualizada (2020), la guía japonesa (2020), el primer Consenso Europeo (2021) y el Consenso Internacional sobre el diagnóstico, abordaje, enfoque multidisciplinario y manejo de individuos con acondroplasia a lo largo de la vida (2021). Sin embargo, y a pesar de estas recomendaciones, actualmente existe una gran variabilidad a nivel mundial en el manejo de las personas con acondroplasia, con consecuencias médicas, funcionales y psicosociales en los pacientes y sus familias. Por ello, es fundamental integrar estas recomendaciones en la práctica clínica diaria, teniendo en cuenta la situación particular de cada sistema sanitario.
Achondroplasia requieres a multidisciplinary follow-up, with the aim of preventing and managing complications, improving the quality of life and favoring their independence and social inclusion. This review is justified by the multiple publications generated in recent years that have carried out a change in its management. Different guidelines and recommendations have been developed, among which the one made by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2005 recently updated (2020), the Japanese guide (2020), the first European Consensus (2021) and the International Consensus on the diagnosis, approach multidisciplinary approach and management of individuals with achondroplasia throughout life (2021). However, and despite these recommendations, there is currently a great worldwide variability in the management of people with achondroplasia, with medical, functional and psychosocial consequences in patients and their families. Therefore, it is essential to integrate these recommendations into daily clinical practice, taking into account the particular situation of each health system.
ABSTRACTGross primary productivity (GPP) is an essential parameter to estimate the efficiency of carbon transfer in terrestrial ecosystems. The daily GPP has been monitored in the past using mainly ...optical satellite imagery. However, GPP has never been monitored using satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. We evaluate the possibility of using Sentinel-1 SAR data to estimate GPP and compare with field GPP measurements using eddy covariance (EC) systems in three commercial potato fields, located in the Andean region of Colombia, using three different water irrigation levels. Raw and processed radar data from Sentinel-1 were compared with the daily and accumulated GPP from the EC. Results indicate that SAR data has a high correlation with the accumulated GPP measured by the EC in the field. The normalized radar backscatter and radar brilliance coefficients with VH polarization show a good correlation with the EC accumulated GPP in irrigated potato fields (R2: 0.77–0.81), while radar vegetation indices show a good correlation with the EC accumulated GPP in potato fields with no irrigation (R2≈0.82). In particular, the accumulated GPP during the whole potato crop cycle was estimated with good accuracy (~5% error with irrigation and ~10% error with no irrigation).
In the quest for effective gas sensors for breath analysis, magnetoelastic resonance-based gas sensors (MEGSs) are remarkable candidates. Thanks to their intrinsic contactless operation, they can be ...used as non-invasive and portable devices. However, traditional monitoring techniques are bound to slow detection, which hinders their application to fast bio-related reactions. Here we present a method for real-time monitoring of the resonance frequency, with a proof of concept for real-time monitoring of gaseous biomarkers based on resonance frequency. This method was validated with a MEGS based on a Metglass 2826 MB microribbon with a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanofiber electrospun functionalization. The device provided a low-noise (RMS = 1.7 Hz), fast (<2 min), and highly reproducible response to humidity (Δf = 46−182 Hz for 17−95% RH), ammonia (Δf = 112 Hz for 40 ppm), and acetone (Δf = 44 Hz for 40 ppm). These analytes are highly important in biomedical applications, particularly ammonia and acetone, which are biomarkers related to diseases such as diabetes. Furthermore, the capability of distinguishing between breath and regular air was demonstrated with real breath measurements. The sensor also exhibited strong resistance to benzene, a common gaseous interferent in breath analysis.
Abstract
Atxurra cave has a decorated assemblage composed of more than a hundred engraved animal depictions. All of them are located in deep parts of the cave and most of them are hidden in raised ...areas, away from the main path. The main sector is the “Ledge of the Horses”, located at 330 m from the entrance of the cave. It is a space of 12 m long and 1.5 m wide, elevated 4 m above the cave floor. This area includes almost fifty engraved and painted animals accompanied by a dozen flint tools, three fireplaces, and around one hundred charcoal fragments from torches. This extraordinary archaeological record allows us to value the complexity of the artistic production inside the caves during the Upper Palaeolithic. Our study has confirmed that there is planning prior to artistic production, both in terms of the iconographic aspects (themes, techniques, formats), its location (visibility, capacity), and the lighting systems. Furthermore, the data indicates the panel was decorated to be seen by third parties from different positions and was expressly illuminated for this purpose. This evidence supports the role of rock art as a visual communication system in Upper Palaeolithic societies.
Deliberate and local increase of the temperature within solid tumors represents an effective therapeutic approach. Thermal therapies embrace this concept leveraging the capability of some species to ...convert the absorbed energy into heat. To that end, magnetic hyperthermia (MHT) uses magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) that can effectively dissipate the energy absorbed under alternating magnetic fields. However, MNPs fail to provide real‐time thermal feedback with the risk of unwanted overheating and impeding on‐the‐fly adjustment of the therapeutic parameters. Localization of MNPs within a tissue in an accurate, rapid, and cost‐effective way represents another challenge for increasing the efficacy of MHT. In this work, MNPs are combined with state‐of‐the‐art infrared luminescent nanothermometers (LNTh; Ag2S nanoparticles) in a nanocapsule that simultaneously overcomes these limitations. The novel optomagnetic nanocapsule acts as multimodal contrast agents for different imaging techniques (magnetic resonance, photoacoustic and near‐infrared fluorescence imaging, optical and X‐ray computed tomography). Most crucially, these nanocapsules provide accurate (0.2 °C resolution) and real‐time subcutaneous thermal feedback during in vivo MHT, also enabling the attainment of thermal maps of the area of interest. These findings are a milestone on the road toward controlled magnetothermal therapies with minimal side effects.
Iron oxide and silver sulfide nanoparticles are combined in optomagnetic nanocapsules, which can act as multimodal contrast agents for several imaging modalities (fluorescence imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, optical tomography, and photoacoustic imaging). More importantly, these nanocapsules enable real‐time subcutaneous thermal monitoring of magnetic hyperthermia processes, paving the way to fully controlled magnetic therapies.
