The following work addresses new configurations of sensing array platforms that are composed of Co-based amorphous ferromagnetic microwires (MWs) to obtain an enhanced modulation of the microwave ...scattering effects through the application of low strength DC or AC magnetic fields. An amorphous MW is an ultrasoft ferromagnetic material (coercivity ~0.2 Oe) with a circumferential magnetic anisotropy that provides a high surface sensitivity when it is subjected to an external magnetic field. Firstly, microwave scattering experiments are performed as a function of the length and number of MWs placed parallel to each other forming an array. Subsequently, three array configurations are designed, achieving high S21 scattering coefficients up to about −50 dB. The influence of DC and AC magnetic fields on S21 has been analyzed in frequency and time domains representation, respectively. In addition, the MWs sensing array has been overlapped by polymeric surfaces and the variations of their micrometric thicknesses also cause strong changes in the S21 amplitude with displacements in the frequency that are associated to the maximum scattering behavior. Finally, a new concept for amplifying microwave scattering is provided by intercalating Cu MWs into the linear Co-based arrays. The designed mixed system that is composed by Co-based and Cu MWs exhibits a higher S21 coefficient when compared to a single Co-based MW system because of higher electrical conductivity of Cu. However, the ability to modulate the resulting electromagnetic scattering is conferred by the giant magneto-impedance (GMI) effects coming from properties of the ultrasoft amorphous MWs. The mixed array platform covers a wide range of sensor applications, demonstrating the feasibility of tuning the S21 amplitude over a wide scattering range by applying AC or DC magnetic fields and tuning the resonant frequency position according to the polymeric slab thickness.
The increasing number of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) cooperating in underwater operations has motivated the use of wireless communications. Their modeling can minimize the impact of their ...limited performance in real-time robotic interventions. However, robotic frameworks hardly ever consider the communications, and network simulators are not suitable for HIL experiments. In this work, the UWSim-NET is presented, an open source tool to simulate the impact of communications in underwater robotics. It gathers the benefits of NS3 in modeling communication networks with those of the underwater robot simulator (UWSim) and the robot operating system (ROS) in modeling robotic systems. This article also shows the results of three experiments that demonstrate the capabilities of UWSim-NET in modeling radio frequency (RF) and acoustic links in underwater scenarios. It also permits evaluating several MAC protocols such as additive links online Hawaii area (ALOHA), slotted floor acquisition multiple access (S-FAMA) and user defined protocols. A third experiment demonstrated the excellent capabilities of UWSim-NET in conducting hardware in the loop (HIL) experiments.
Abstract Objective To derive and validate a set of functions to predict coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, and validate the Framingham-REGICOR function. Method Pooled analysis of 11 ...population-based Spanish cohorts (1992–2005) with 50,408 eligible participants. Baseline smoking, diabetes, systolic blood pressure (SBP), lipid profile, and body mass index were recorded. A ten-year follow-up included re-examinations/telephone contact and cross-linkage with mortality registries. For each sex, two models were fitted for CHD, stroke, and both end-points combined: model A was adjusted for age, smoking, and body mass index and model B for age, smoking, diabetes, SBP, total and HDL cholesterol, and for hypertension treatment by SBP, and age by smoking and by SBP interactions. Results The 9.3-year median follow-up accumulated 2973 cardiovascular events. The C-statistic improved from model A to model B for CHD (0.66 to 0.71 for men; 0.70 to 0.74 for women) and the combined CHD-stroke end-points (0.68 to 0.71; 0.72 to 0.75, respectively), but not for stroke alone. Framingham-REGICOR had similar C-statistics but overestimated CHD risk. Conclusions The new functions accurately estimate 10-year stroke and CHD risk in the adult population of a typical southern European country. The Framingham-REGICOR function provided similar CHD prediction but overestimated risk.
El proceso abreviado es una figura jurídica empleada en varios sistemas judiciales internacionales con el propósito de simplificar y acelerar la tramitación de ciertos delitos. En líneas generales, ...el proceso abreviado tiende a ser aplicado en delitos de menor complejidad, en los cuales la culpabilidad del acusado es manifiesta y no existen disputas sustanciales sobre los hechos. Su finalidad es garantizar un juicio rápido y eficaz sin menoscabar los derechos procesales del acusado. A medida que los sistemas legales evolucionan, la implementación y características del proceso abreviado pueden variar de un país a otro, siendo las leyes y regulaciones locales las que determinan su utilización y aplicación.
En el documento se valorizará la empresa Unión Andina de Cementos S.A.A. (UNACEM), la principal productora de cemento nacional con participación de 50% y con la posición N° 58 en el ranking de ...América Economía de las 500 mayores empresas en el mercado peruano. Se ha elegido UNACEM por ser una empresa que desenvuelve con éxito en la industria cementera, desde su constitución en 1967 como Cementos Lima S. A. A. hasta la adquisición de Lafarge Cementos en Ecuador en el 2014. El sector infraestructura tiene un importante aporte en el PBI (participación de 6,2% al cierre del 2015). En el 2012 UNACEM surge de la fusión entre Cementos Lima S. A. A. y Cementos Andinos S. A. y es controlada por un importante grupo empresarial peruano a través de la empresa holding Nuevas Inversiones S.A. (NISA). Su principal objetivo comercial es la producción y fabricación de cemento a través de dos plantas de producción en el Perú, Atocongo y Condorcocha con capacidad productiva de 5,5 y 2,1 millones de t, respectivamente para cemento y 4,8 y 1,88 millones de t, respectivamente para clínker o molienda de cemento. UNACEM es supervisada por la Superintendencia de Mercado y Valores (SMV) al cotizar en Bolsa con la acción común UNACEMC1, ocupando la posición 11 del Índice General de la Bolsa de Valores de Lima (IGBLV) con 3,62% de participación dentro de las 25 empresas que componen el índice. El monto negociado es de S/. 162 millones con 1,65 millones de acciones en circulación. UNACEM posee una política de dividendos estable, repartidos trimestralmente, y el monto total ascendió a S/. 87,15 millones al 2015. La etapa en la que se encontraría la empresa sería la de crecimiento, al tener necesidades moderadas de fondeo externo. A su vez, como consecuencia de los proyectos de expansión sí podría tener necesidades de realizar fondeo interno y con ello una menor capacidad para el pago de dividendos.
The importance of self-esteem during the course of oncological illness has been well-documented by some previous studies. However, data assessing its association with various coping strategies, ...especially considering the period of illness, are still scarce. The objective of this study is to analyze the differences in coping strategies among oncological adolescents, taking into account their self-esteem, illness period, age, and sex. A total of 201 oncological patients between the ages of 12 and 17 from three different Spanish cities were included in this study. All of them were asked to answer a tailored questionnaire, encompassing information about age, sex, and illness period. Additionally, the coping strategies were measured using the ACS scale, while self-esteem was evaluated using the SENA questionnaire. The results demonstrated that male adolescents and older individuals exhibited higher levels of self-esteem. The main coping strategies associated with higher self-esteem were "ignore the problem", "focus on positive", "physical recreation", and "wishful thinking" both during the treatment and the follow-up phases. We conclude that higher self-esteem is associated with some of the coping strategies such as "focus on positive", "ignore the problem", and "wishful thinking". Sociodemographic variables influence the relationship between self-esteem and coping strategies, but no differences were found regarding the period of illness.
Introduction. The Colombian Altillanura is going through a process of transformation, marked by the expansion of its agricultural border. In the region, it is being implemented a research agenda that ...seeks to develop and validate promising technologies for the improvement of productivity and sustainability of agricultural production systems. Economic evaluation plays an important role in prioritizing activities, allocating resources, and guiding agricultural research towards rural development objectives. Objective. The objective of this work was to implement an ex-ante economic evaluation to estimate the results and potential impacts of the new promising L23 rice line improved for the Colombian Altillanura. Materials and methods. The impact was measured on the L23 rice genotype, which was developed as a collaboration between the Colombian Corporation of Agricultural Research (AGROSAVIA) and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), for the Colombian Altillanura. The ex-ante evaluation combined a partial budgets analysis with information from experimental tests and economic surpluses model. Results. The two methodological approaches were consistent and showed that with the adoption of the L23 genotype at least 29.7%, a probability of 17.1 % could be achieved for rice producers in the Altillanura due to the expected increase in crop yield. However, a sensitivity analysis of the assumptions warns that a low potential level of adoption along with nonsignificant changes in yield would make the research and development of the new genotype economically unfeasible. Conclusion. For the research, development and, introduction of the L23 rice genotype to be profitable, it is required a diffusion process that allows the reproduction of the seed and facilitates the access to producers, so that they can reach higher levels of adoption.
Introducción. La Altillanura colombiana atraviesa por un proceso de transformación, marcado por la expansión de su frontera agrícola. En la región, se está implementando una agenda de investigación que busca desarrollar y validar tecnologías promisorias para el mejoramiento de la productividad y la sostenibilidad de los sistemas de producción agropecuarios. La evaluación económica juega un papel importante en priorizar actividades, asignar recursos y guiar la investigación agrícola hacia objetivos de desarrollo rural. Objetivo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue implementar una evaluación económica ex-ante para estimar los resultados e impactos potenciales de la nueva línea promisoria de arroz L23 desarrollada para la Altillanura colombiana. Materiales y métodos. El impacto se midió en el genotipo de arroz L23, desarrollado en colaboración por la Corporación Colombiana de Investigación Agropecuaria (AGROSAVIA) y el Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT), para la Altillanura colombiana. La evaluación ex-ante efectuada combinó un análisis de presupuestos parciales con información de pruebas experimentales y un modelo de excedentes económicos. Resultados. Los dos enfoques metodológicos fueron consistentes y mostraron que con la adopción del genotipo L23, en al menos 29,7 %, se podría conseguir una rentabilidad del 17,1 % para los productores de arroz de la Altillanura, debido al aumento esperado del rendimiento en el cultivo. Sin embargo, un análisis de sensibilidad de los supuestos, alerta que un bajo nivel potencial de adopción junto a cambios no significativos en rendimiento convertiría la investigación y desarrollo del nuevo genotipo en no factible a nivel económico. Conclusión. Para que la investigación, desarrollo e introducción del genotipo de arroz L23 sea rentable, se requiere un proceso de diseminación que permita la reproducción de la semilla y facilite el acceso a los productores, para que así puedan alcanzar mayores niveles de adopción.
Due to the need to know the availability of solar resources for the solar renewable technologies in advance, this paper presents a new methodology based on computer vision and the object detection ...technique that uses convolutional neural networks (EfficientDet-D2 model) to detect clouds in image series. This methodology also calculates the speed and direction of cloud motion, which allows the prediction of transients in the available solar radiation due to clouds. The convolutional neural network model retraining and validation process finished successfully, which gave accurate cloud detection results in the test. Also, during the test, the estimation of the remaining time for a transient due to a cloud was accurate, mainly due to the precise cloud detection and the accuracy of the remaining time algorithm.

The international promotion of wine routes is leading to a growing demand for wine tourism activities. More and more tourists are choosing wine tourism as an option when planning their trips. ...Although the data are encouraging, little is known about the effect that these tourist activities have on wine consumers. This paper shows the effect of the wine tourism experience on a group of consumers. Through an analysis of variance, the results show that by increasing the wine tourism experience, consumers improve their attitudes towards wine, their evaluation of extrinsic and intrinsic attributes and their loyalty towards different wines. In addition, segmentation according to the level of wine tourism experience can help wine marketers to understand their potential audience and market orientation.
•This paper assessed the attitudinal perceptions, wine attributes and consumption behaviour of potential and current tourists. Our results support the work of Bonn et al. (2020), who suggest that the visitor's wine tourism experience has a significant impact on consumers' subsequent evaluations.•Overall, we found an effect of wine tourism experience on attitude evaluations. Specifically, we found that attitudinal evaluations increase as the wine tourism experience increases.•We found that taste and aroma, the main predictors of quality (Wine & Spirit Education Trust, 2016), are the elements most valued by subjects who report a higher level of wine tourism experience.•Our paper shows that the longer the wine tourism experience, the higher the ratings of the bottling design.
