Physical literacy (PL) is thought to facilitate engagement in physical activity, which could lead to better physical fitness (PF). The aim of this study was to examine the reliability of the Croatian ...version of two frequently applied PL questionnaires that evaluate knowledge and understanding, perceived competence, environment, and value for literacy, numeracy, and PL and validity regarding correlation with objectively evaluated PF in adolescents. Five hundred forty-four high school students (403 females, 141 males) from Croatia were tested on PF (standing long jump, sit-ups for 30 s, sit-and-reach test, multilevel endurance test) and two PL questionnaires. The reliability of the Croatian version of the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy knowledge and understanding (CAPL-2-KU) and PLAYself was good (α = 0.71−0.81 for PLAYself subscales, κ = 0.39−0.69 for CAPL-2-KU). Genders differed in the self-description dimension of PLAYself, with higher results in boys (Z = 3.72, p < 0.001). CAPL-2-KU and PLAYself total score were associated with PF in boys and girls, with PLAYself having stronger associations with PF. This research supports the idea of PL as an essential determinant for the development of PF, highlighting the necessity of the development of cognitive and affective domains of PL in physical education throughout a specifically tailored pedagogical process.
The extended school day program is a special form of educational work with lower-grade elementary school students. The aim of this survey was to determine the differences in students’ school achievement, depending on whether they attend the extended school day program or not. The survey included 386 first- to fifth-grade students (N=386) in the Većeslav Holjevac Elementary School in Zagreb. For the purposes of this paper, a secondary data source was used, i.e. pedagogical research results. Grades in the Croatian language, mathematics and the grade point average at the end of the 2017/2018 school year were assessed, as well as attendance of the extended school day program. The results of the survey indicate that students who attend the extended school day program in the first three grades achieve statistically significantly better grades in the Croatian language (0,00) mathematics (0,03) and have a better grade point average (0,00) than students who do not attend the program. Furthermore, the results indicate that students who attended the extended school day program retain better grades in the fourth and fifth grade, compared to their peers who did not attend the program. The results certainly encourage reflection on the availability of extended school day program to all students who are interested in attending it, regardless of their parents’ working hours.
In line with the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a need to organize classes in virtual classrooms, which are becoming a place of educational strategy. Teachers need to ...reconceptualize the fundamental issues of teaching, learning and assessment in non-traditional, virtual classrooms, and are faced with many problems of conducting and organizing the teaching process. The problem of evaluation is especially pronounced, partly due to doubts about the integrity of students, but also due to the actual evaluation process in the online environment. The aim of this research is to examine the incidence in Math classes in the virtual classroom – during exams, while doing homework and project work, with regard to the age and gender of students. The research showed a statistically significant difference on the scale of cheating in exams in Math organized online of female students in comparison to male students, establishing that female students cheat to a greater extent in online organized exams than male students. It was shown that there is no statistically significant difference in the prevalence of cheating of lower secondary school students in online organized exams compared to higher grade students.
The aim of this research was to determine the role of business cooperation and support of colleagues to the school principal and the principals satisfaction with business cooperation in primary ...schools. During April, May and June 2021, an empirical quantitative research was conducted using the network survey method to gain insight into the understanding of business relationships between cooperation and support in the workplace and the level of business satisfaction among primary school principals in the Republic of Croatia. The research was conducted on a convenient sample of 483 members of the reference population. The research participants, principals of elementary schools, are satisfied with business cooperation and support at the workplace, that is, with the support of their colleagues, while they are moderately satisfied with their jobs. It was found that all conceptual variables are statistically significantly positively related.
Cooperation between students realises quality peer relationships while teachersupport encompasses the relations between students and adults. Abundant researchstresses the importance of both ...relationships. Not all students possess the skillsthat enable them to cooperate with others, so teachers have the role of helpingthem develop and perfect these skills. Teacher support significantly influences notonly students’ academic achievements but also their emotional, social and moraldevelopment. The research goal was to describe how students perceive their mutualcooperation and the support from teachers in different school subjects. The research included 650 students from the seventh and eighth forms of 11primary schools from Sisak-Moslavina County in the Republic of Croatia. Averageage of the participants is 13.4 years, and their subject teachers’ 69 years. The appliedquestionnaire consisted of two scales. Cooperation and Teacher Support. Thementioned scales were taken from the modified questionnaire What Is Happeningin This Class (Fraser et al., 1996). Both scales were implemented in three schoolsubjects: Croatian, maths and geography. The obtained results point to the fact that teachers are more directed to ensuringcooperation between students during lessons than to giving support in the work.Furthermore, teachers during whose class students realise better cooperation at thesame time give higher level of support. Students assess that they cooperate the mostin geography class, whereas at the same time they receive the least teacher supportin this class. The correlation between education degree and years in service was notfound when considering the results of the Cooperation and Teacher Support scales.Key words: cooperation; support; students; teachers.-Suradnjom među učenicima ostvaruju se kvalitetni međuvršnjački odnosi, dokpružanjem učiteljske podrške zahvaćamo u odnos učenika i odraslih osoba. Navedene skale preuzete su iz modificiranoga upitnikaWhat Is Happening In This Class (Fraser, Fisher i McRobbie, 1996). Nije dobivenapovezanost stručne spreme i godina staža učitelja s rezultatima skale Suradnja i skalePodrška učitelja.Ključne riječi: podrška; suradnja; učenici; učitelji.
The aim of this research is to examine the sex and age differences in daily physical and sendentary activities among elementary - school children attending from 5th to 8th form. According to the aim ...of this research, a sample of 78 boys and 79 girls was used. The subjects evaluated their daily physical and sedentary activity on the Likert scale from 1 to 5. The results were obtained by using two - factor 2x4 ANOVA for independent samples and t - test for dependent samples and they show that sex and age are significant predictors of physical and sedentary activity. The results also give an additional insight into the problem of efficiency and precise specification of quantity and quality of classes of Physical Education being the only organized form of physical activity in the Republic of Croatia. In addition, the results imply the need for further scientific and professional research with the aim of searching for optional and fairly distributed conditions for the intensification of possible physical activity of the younger population.
The aim of the study was to examine the characteristics and predictor role of goal orientations in learning, schools' level of digital media equipment and the use of digital media in classroom ...(teaching) quality in lower secondary education (ISCED level 2). The study was conducted on seventh and eighth grade students (N=432) of elementary schools in the City of Zagreb and Split-Dalmatia County. Besides demographic characteristics of students and schools' level of digital media equipment, the data were collected by the Goal orientation questionnaire (CSRL), the Technology implementation questionnaire (TIQ), and Student perception of classroom quality (SPOCQ) questionnaire. It was concluded that, overall, demographic characteristics of students, their goal orientations, school s ' level of digital media equipment, and motivation for use of digital media are significant predictors of student perception of classroom quality, with the highest percentage of variance explained by goal orientations, with emphasis on learning orientation. In this regard, it is evident that for teaching quality in the digital age, goal orientation, i.e., motivation for learning, is most significant, rather than the use of digital media. Comparison with theoretical postulates and implications of these results are explained in this paper. Key words: classroom quality, digital media, elementary school, goal orientations, students
Theoretically, health literacy (HL) and physical literacy (PL) should be associated with overall education, but little is known about their association with scholastic achievement. The aim of this ...study was to investigate whether scholastic variables relate to HL and PL among high-school adolescents. We observed 268 high school students (202 females, 66 males) who were assessed on HL using the HLS-EU47 questionnaire and PL by PLAYself questionnaire. Scholastic variables included grade point average and excused and unexcused number of absences from school. Gender-stratified correlations, cluster analysis, and discriminant canonical analysis were calculated to establish the associations between study variables. The correlations between HL and scholastic variables were generally poor, while statistically significant correlations between grade point average and HL were noted only among girls (R=0.16, p<0.05). Cluster and discriminant analyses confirmed higher HL and PL among girls who were better at school. While associations between HL and PL with scholastic achievement were generally poor, our results point to the necessity of further investigation of a problem. Hence, specific types of knowledge should be explored as possible correlates of HL and PL in adolescence.
This research paper aims to asses the different sources of self-efficacy in solving mathematical problems on a sample of 240 students in the final grades of secondary vocational schools from the City ...of Zagreb. The conducted research determined elements that affect self-efficacy in solving mathematical problems and it sought to examine whether there are gender differences in the self-assessed level of self-efficacy in solving problems in the context of distance learning of mathematics. Although it was established that male and female students do not differ in the self-assessed level of self-efficacy in solving mathematical problems, it was discovered that male and female students differ in the various factors determining their psychological states, as one of the dimensions affecting self-efficacy in solving mathematical problems – where female students manifest more negative physiological-emotional reactions to mathematics, while male students manifest less negative physiological-emotional reactions to mathematics.
