Supply chain management (SCM) has been a major component of competitive strategy to enhance organizational productivity and profitability. The literature on SCM that deals with strategies and ...technologies for effectively managing a supply chain is quite vast. In recent years, organizational performance measurement and metrics have received much attention from researchers and practitioners. The role of these measures and metrics in the success of an organization cannot be overstated because they affect strategic, tactical and operational planning and control. Performance measurement and metrics have an important role to play in setting objectives, evaluating performance, and determining future courses of actions. Performance measurement and metrics pertaining to SCM have not received adequate attention from researchers or practitioners. We developed a framework to promote a better understanding of the importance of SCM performance measurement and metrics. Using the current literature and the results of an empirical study of selected British companies, we developed the framework presented herein, in hopes that it would stimulate more interest in this important area.

E-Commerce is expected to play a major role in the 21st century global market. Of the various E-commerce models (B2B, B2C, B2E and B2G), B2B has been particularly successful, due to adoption of ...standardized processes for document exchange (like EDI), shipping, tracking, delivery and payment among supply chain partners. One element of B2B is E-procurement. E-procurement focuses on acquisition of resources, especially MRO items, and increasingly materials and components. Some analysts believe that enormous cost savings and increased effectiveness can be achieved through the utilization of E-procurement. E-procurement utilizes electronic purchase procedures implemented through Internet communication and Web based buying tools. Studies in the literature report on the adoption of E-procurement in different countries and industries. This study focuses on the current status of E-procurement in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) located in the Southcoast of Massachusetts. The main objective of this research is to understand the current state of E-procurement in SMEs and to examine those things that influence E-procurement adoption. A questionnaire-based survey was employed for data collection. A conceptual model was developed to describe/explain the adoption of E-procurement and a framework is proposed for the successful adoption of E-procurement on the Southcoast of Massachusetts.
In this paper, we describe a framework for measuring costs and performance in new forms of business organization that are evolving to meet the competitive challenges of the 21st century. A literature ...review on cost management and performance measures in advanced manufacturing and service organizations provides the basis for our framework. The framework emphasizes measurement of costs and performance in the virtual enterprise and along the supply chain to enhance competitiveness in global markets. Investing in knowledge capital and information technology plays an important role in improving organizational competitiveness in the 21st century, yet the measurement of performance in these important areas is at best, imprecise. Managing and controlling costs and performance in new forms of organization poses challenges. We hope this article will encourage research that will help practitioners meet the challenges of performance measurement in the 21st century. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT

Technology, particularly information technology (IT), is changing rapidly and offers many advantages for users. IT has the potential to improve one's quality of life, but only if used. Research has ...shown that, in most developed and developing nations, senior use of IT lags behind that of other segments of society. This "gray divide" is a concern for government, business, and others. Concern about senior adoption and use of IT has been the motivation for numerous studies and is the motivation for this study of Chinese seniors. This exploratory study examines urban Chinese seniors' IT use, computers and mobile phones in particular, but also their attitudes and behaviors as they relate to the use of those devices. More specifically it examines several potential factors that motivate or hinder senior's use of information technology, including self-efficacy, satisfaction, comfort with technology, and both positive and negative attitudes. This study provides some insight into the quantity and diversity of Chinese senior technology use in urban China. Particularly noteworthy, the study found that technology ownership was quite high, and in general the Chinese seniors studied had positive attitudes and beliefs concerning information technology. This is generally good news for the Chinese government, which must efficiently provide services for the growing population of Chinese seniors, as well as for businesses that wish to capitalize on one of the largest senior populations in the world.
In most developed and developing nations seniors lag behind the general population in information technology (IT) adoption and use. This phenomenon has been labeled the "gray divide" by various ...authors. This study examines the use of IT by seniors in Taiwan. We conducted a survey to examine Taiwanese seniors' computer and cell phone ownership and use as well as attitudes and behaviors that result from and influence use, to better understand the extent to which Taiwanese seniors have and will utilize IT. We found that seniors in Taiwan had generally high usage and access to computers and cell phones; however, the duration of use these two devices was relatively low. Our focus was on computers and mobile phones because they are the most commonly used personal IT appliances. These devices are the "face" of IT to users. This study also examined self-efficacy, satisfaction, and comfort with these devices, as well as positive and negative attitudes, because research has shown these to influence the use of IT. Taiwanese seniors had generally positively attitudes and beliefs toward information technology.

In this paper we discuss the results of a survey of senior citizens' interaction with information technology. We expected that the "digital divide" between young and old might be diminishing, and we ...found evidence of that. We also report on information technologies that seem to be attracting seniors and those that have not yet attracted this age group. We also report findings with regard to senior IT skill levels and how seniors are using their IT skills. Finally, we discuss some limitations of this study and suggest some motivations for future research including some suggestions of what some of that research might include.
Business needs have driven the design, development, and use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Intra-enterprise integration was a driving force in the design, development, and use of ...early ERP systems, but increased globalization, intense competition, and technological change have shifted to focus to inter-enterprise integration. Current and evolving ERP systems thus reflect the expanded scope of integration, with greater emphasis on things like supply chain management and customer relationship management. This manuscript explores the evolution of ERP, the current status of ERP, and the future of ERP, with the objective of promoting relevant future research in this important area. If researchers hope to play a significant role in the design, development, and use of suitable ERP systems to meet evolving business needs, then their research should focus, at least in part, on the changing business environment, its impact on business needs, and the requirements for enterprise systems that meet those needs.
The last decade of the twentieth century brought with it exponential growth of electronic commerce (EC). The growth of business-to-business (B2B) EC outpaced that of all other forms of EC. During ...roughly the same time period, benchmarking became an important approach for accessing organizational performance. Benchmarking is a methodology suitable for evaluating virtually any aspect of organizational performance in public or private organizations. In this manuscript B2B and benchmarking are discussed with the objective of developing directions for research and the application of B2B benchmarking. A framework for benchmarking B2B EC is proposed that describes five levels of benchmarking: independent B2B EC benchmarking, buyer-seller (1:1) collaborative benchmarking, 1:M consortium benchmarking, 1:M:N collaborative benchmarking, and buyer-intermediary benchmarking.
