Field studies of Colorado tick fever (CTF) in small mammals in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) in 1974 established that Eutamias minimus and Spermophilus lateralis were the most important hosts ...for CTF virus and were the source of virus for immature stages of the tick vector, Dermacentor andersoni. Other species (Peromyscus maniculatus, Spermophilus richardsonii, Eutamias umbrinus) are secondary hosts. The intensity of viral activity in rodents varied greatly from locality to locality. Highest rodent infection rates were found to occur in the Moraine Park area of RMNP. Lowest infection rates occurred above 3,290 meters in altitude at Rainbow Curve and on the tundra. The prevalence of infection in rodents was constant from April--July (5--6% of animals captured were viremic) and then declined to 1.7--2.5% in August and September coincident with a decline in nymphal tick ectoparasitism. Many animals were captured which were simultaneously viremic and antibody-positive. Under field conditions, neutralizing antibody seroconversion does not always occur.
Findings are reported regarding the relationship between the level of self-derogation of adult subjects and the prior experience of a broken home during childhood. Data were collected by survey ...research methods from a sample (N=500) of the adult population of Harris County (including the city of Houston), Texas. The data were analyzed to determine the particular characteristics of the broken home situation (those relating to resultant living arrangements, cause of broken home, subject's age at time of broken home, parental remarriage, and subject's age at time of parental remarriage) which were associated with high self-derogation scores relative to subjects from intact families. Results are reported for the total sample and for subgroups differentiated by the race, sex, and social class of the subject.
The paper deals with computing techniques of both active current and power, and their DSP implementation for dynamic compensation of three-phase symmetrical system. The dynamic power active filter ...using this techniques is determinated for the VAr and higher harmonics compensation of symmetrical nonharmonic/nonlinear loads. The new original concept, which has been used, is the creation of a complex vector of investigated quantities and its hardware decomposition into real- and imaginary components using Clarke orthogonal transform. The analysis can be completed within one sixth of the period for three-phase system (from acquired data of previous sixth), due to six-side symmetry of complex vector. The compensator response to the actual state of the load is then very fast. Discrete Fourier transform and/or numeric solution of active power computation are used for generating new reference data for each successive sixth of the period. The computation-mainly integration can be done by either fast digital signal processor or mixed (analog) signal unit. Simulation experiments in DesignLab environment are presented at the end of the paper.
