Every "even" year, IBBY proudly announces the winners of the IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award and the Hans Christian Andersen Award—2018 was no exception. The announcement has attracted a larger ...audience over the years, especially since IBBY has made the announcement in the central area of the fair at the Illustrators Café. Every year the IBBY activities at the book fair start before the fair opens with two days of intense Executive Committee meetings, where IBBY's business and projects are discussed. The first day of the fair was on Monday, March 26, and the IBBY press conference was held on that afternoon. The conference was live-streamed so all IBBY members and friends around the world could watch the event.

The ...Congress, with the theme East Meets West around Children’s Books and Fairy Tales, will take place in Athens from 30 August to 1 September 2018, at the Athens Megaron International Conference Center. The Congress has been included in the events celebrating Athens 2018 World Book Capital.

Three women, who themselves are extraordinary, reflect on Tayo Shima’s friendship and what it meant to them. For many years, our National Section has received financial support from IBBY Netherlands, including the payment of our annual membership dues to IBBY International. But this relationship goes much deeper than an economic contribution. Strong bonds of friendship have united us since the beginning, and the entire IBBY Uruguay membership shares a sense of affection, concern, and unconditional support for our friends at IBBY Netherlands. At the beginning of July, Miep Diekmann, one of the best-known children’s book authors in the Netherlands, passed away.
The IBBY cycle is a two-year cycle-the Andersen Awards, the IBBY Honour List, and the world congress in an even year; and the IBBY outstanding selection of books for young people with disabilities, ...the Silent Books selection, and the regional congresses in the uneven year. Refugee children and the children in the community can learn empathy through books and activities related to books, and a library or reading room can be an excellent opportunity to get to know one another in a neutral environment." The session on supporting young refugees with reading and book projects included the Book Pirates by Martin Gries (Germany); the Vooelees Express Reading project by Marloes Robijn (Netherlands); Eux, c'est nous, which is a book about refugees that has been produced as a joint initiative by forty French children's publishers, presented by Sophie Giraud and Laurence Faron (France); and two authors gave accounts of their writing for refugees, Laila Koubaa (Belgium) and Neli Kodrič Filipič (Slovenia). The VEncuentro de IBBYLatinoaméricaa y del Caribe took place 25-27 April, with the theme Voces de latinamérica en los libros para bebés, niños y jóvnenes (Latin-American voices in the books for babies, children and young adults), within the framework of the International Book Fair of Buenos Aires and in the Muiño Room of the San Martín Cultural Center.
For the last thirty years, the Award has been presented to outstanding activities by groups or institutions around the world that have been judged to be making a lasting contribution to reading ...promotion programs for children and young people. The Jury, selected from the members of the current IBBY Executive Committee, judge every nominated project very strictly based on the following criteria: * How well does the project support IBBY's Mission Statement? * Is there existing or possible support for the project from other funding sources? * Has the project been in existence for at least two years prior to its nomination?
