While the international nEDM collaboration at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) took data in 2017 that covered a considerable fraction of the parameter space of claimed potential signals of ...hypothetical neutron (n) to mirror-neutron (n′) transitions, it could not test all claimed signal regions at various mirror magnetic fields. Therefore, a new study of n−n′ oscillations using stored ultracold neutrons (UCNs) is underway at PSI, considerably expanding the reach in parameter space of mirror magnetic fields (B′) and oscillation time constants (τnn′). The new apparatus is designed to test for the anomalous loss of stored ultracold neutrons as a function of an applied magnetic field. The experiment is distinguished from its predecessors by its very large storage vessel (1.47 m3), enhancing its statistical sensitivity. In a test experiment in 2020 we have demonstrated the capabilities of our apparatus. However, the full analysis of our recent data is still pending. Based on already demonstrated performance, we will reach sensitivity to oscillation times τnn′/cos(β) well above a hundred seconds, with β being the angle between B′ and the applied magnetic field B. The scan of B will allow the finding or the comprehensive exclusion of potential signals reported in the analysis of previous experiments and suggested to be consistent with neutron to mirror-neutron oscillations.

Ao longo dos anos, tem-se registado um crescente interesse pela área de auditoria e pelos auditores, em parte, devido ao facto de num passado ainda recente ter havido vários escândalos financeiros, ...com consequências relevantes para a sociedade no seu todo.Nesse sentido, para além de legislação se ter adaptado, procurando combater diversas formas de corrupção, também têm sido desenvolvidos estudos sobre estas temáticas, com o intuito de compreender quais os fatores que contribuem para uma melhor qualidade da auditoria.O objetivo deste trabalho é identificar as características das comissões de auditoria que poderão influenciar a substituição do auditor externo numa empresa.Para tal, foi utilizada uma amostra final com 95 observações, de empresas pertencentes ao índice FTSE 100, ou seja, as maiores empresas cotadas na bolsa Londres.De acordo com os resultados da regressão logística, constatou-se que a probabilidade de uma comissão de auditoria substituir o auditor externo diminui à medida que aumenta a diversidade de género da comissão, aumenta o número de reuniões realizadas pela comissão e também à medida que a percentagem de participação nessas reuniões é maior.Por outro lado, a probabilidade de substituir o auditor externo é tanto maior quanto maior for a dimensão da comissão de auditoria.
O presente trabalho insere-se na Logística Interna e aborda o estudo dos processos do armazém Polisport numa ótica de aumento de produtividade e de qualidade.No decorrer da realização do projeto ...foram aplicadas técnicas de melhoria contínua, nomeadamente os 5`S e a gestão visual, de forma a normalizar todo o processo de abastecimento às linhas de montagem.Inicialmente foi necessário observar o local de trabalho de forma a recolher informação e detetar os principais problemas que afetavam a produtividade do armazém. De seguida, foi essencial atuar ao nível da organização do armazém, implementado um sistema interno de melhoria contínua que eliminasse desperdícios ao nível das deslocações excessivas dos operadores logísticos, reduzindo obstáculos nos corredores de passagem, melhorando o picking de componentes e otimizando a utilização do comboio logístico. Por último, para que não se voltassem a verificar desvios, foram criadas normas no sentido de conceber uma equipa de trabalho forte e disciplinada.
Esta dissertação tem como objetivo estudar a forma como o jornalismo aborda um dos temas que carateriza a sociedade atual: a moda. Desde que surgiu, a moda alterou a forma como vemos e vivemos a ...nossa sociedade. Com um papel sociológico e comunicativo que, muitas vezes não é perceptível ou reconhecido, a moda é parte da economia, de estilos de vida e da forma como nos relacionamos em várias situações. A moda funciona como um processo comunicativo, revelando sem palavra, emoções, estados de espírito e posições sociais.Um processo tão multifacetado como este mereceu atenção por parte dos media. Durante o desenvolvimento da imprensa como indústria, surgiram formas diferentes de conceber o jornalismo. Nesta dissertação, são analisados e descritos conceitos como a produção noticiosa, o acontecimento, os valores-notícia e os jornalismos especializados. Atualmente, o público é cada vez mais seletivo e pretende a informação da sua preferência, com os assuntos que lhe despertam maior interesse. O jornalismo especializado surgiu como forma de responder a essa necessidade e como um novo modelo de negócio lucrativo para os media.O tratamento que os media dão, de forma exclusiva e especializada, aos temas que envolvem a moda tem como nome jornalismo de moda. Várias são as publicações completamente dedicadas ao tema, com uma linha editorial muito própria, assim como o discurso. A linguagem, a importância da imagem e um caráter publicitário vincado distinguem o jornalismo de moda do jornalismo generalista, de desporto, de viagens, etc. O jornalismo de moda contitui-se como uma forma de infoentretenimento que agrada ao seu público-alvo.Para poder analisar estas diferenças e perceber a forma como meios generalistas e especializados falam sobre moda, é feita uma análise de conteúdo de três meios que cobriram o ModaLisboa Trust, o maior certame do género em Portugal. Os resultados obtidos após esta análise são conclusivos: um meio generalista não consegue fazer o mesmo nível de cobertura de um meio especializado, já que o nível de atenção e de enquadramento é diferente, assim como o tipo de linguagem. Mas um suplemento informativo, como o que é analisado nesta dissertação, pode. Conclui-se que o tratamento dado por esse suplemento tem uma maior riqueza textual, constituíndo-se, assim, como concorrências às publicações inteiramente dedicadas à moda.
Architecture, as a discipline that studies and seeks space solutions to serve the needs of Man, has acquired in its history a greater importance for society. This factor created a need to communicate ...with more and heterogeneous areas of knowledge. As a result, the process of representation and communication gained more relevance to the discipline and its processes.Since the Renaissance, the architect uses design as an instrument of work, to create solutions, and also to communicate the found solutions to the various agents involved, making it a key partner in all phases of project. With the evolution of society, architecture has developed itself to meet the new needs. The design, in turn, had some limitations to follow such developments. About 2 decades ago, through the use of digital technologies, a new door was opened for the development of design in architecture. Initially, in order to improve productivity and then, gradually, to respond to the needs of various stages of architecture process, digital design was responsible for a change in the architecture work processes and, for increasing its range of solutions.The question to be studied in this work is to understand how the digital world changed the use of design in architecture. Thus, the interest is to realize if the changes produced by digital design allow the maintenance of the analog design's characteristics that make it an essential tool for the architect. Also important is, the study of some of the new capabilities and solutions that digital offers, such as the use of videogame engines to visualize architecture, which are explored in the case study.As a working tool, the digital design, influences the architectural language because it allows to explore disciplinary fields that the analog by itself can´t. The work process, itself, is different so the final result is always influenced. It is important to note that this does not result in a loss of autonomy of the architect, as some authors argue, but in an increase of available solutions to the exercise of that freedom instead.The digital design /modeling is an instrument that, maybe because it's relatively recent, is still seen with some reluctance in many parts of the discipline. This work attempts to explain the enormous potential of digital design, as an instrument to improve the whole process of design and transformation of space, making it an important element in order for architecture to continue, as always, to respond effectively to the demands of society.
The work described in this thesis aims at understanding the molecular interactions that contribute to the stabilization of the protein native state by compatible solutes typical of hyperthermophiles. ...In particular we set out to identify structural determinants of protein stabilization and to gain insight into the importance of changes in protein dynamics to the mechanism of solute induced stabilization. Rubredoxin from Desulfovibrio gigas and staphylococcal nuclease were the two target model proteins used in the study. NMR was the methodology chosen to assess changes in protein motions in a wide range of timescales and eventual binding to specific features of the protein structure. The work presented in this thesis shows that structural features can be a source of specific interactions between solutes and proteins which may relate with the differential extent of stabilization observed for specific solute-protein couples. A correlation between protein stabilization and protein backbone rigidification of motions in the sub-nanosecond timescale is clearly established for the model system analyzed. Finally, in the second to minute timescale, there is strong evidence for solute-induced restriction of the local as well as the global motions of the protein. Further studies will show whether these interesting findings can be generalized to other proteins and solutes.
A Arquitectura, enquanto disciplina que estuda e procura soluções espaciais que sirvam as
necessidades do Homem, tem adquirido ao longo da sua História maior importância junto da
sociedade. Este ...factor criou a necessidade de comunicar com mais e heterogéneas áreas de saber.
Assim, o processo de representação e comunicação ganhou mais relevância para a disciplina e os seus
processos.
Desde o Renascimento que o arquitecto usa o desenho como instrumento de trabalho, não só
na procura de soluções de projecto mas também, para comunicar aos vários agentes intervenientes as
soluções encontradas, transformando o desenho num parceiro fundamental em todas as fases de
projecto. Com a evolução da sociedade, a arquitectura foi‐se desenvolvendo para responder às novas
necessidades. O desenho, por seu lado, apresentava algumas limitações ao acompanhamento dessa
evolução. Há cerca de 2 décadas atrás, através do uso das tecnologias digitais, abriu‐se uma nova porta
para a evolução do desenho de arquitectura. Inicialmente, com o objectivo de melhorar a
produtividade, e depois, de forma gradual, para responder às necessidades das várias fases de
projecto, o desenho digital foi responsável por uma alteração da forma dos seus processos de trabalho,
alargando o leque de soluções.
A questão que se pretende estudar neste trabalho é a de perceber de que forma o universo
digital veio alterar a utilização do desenho em arquitectura. Interessa, assim, concluir se as alterações
produzidas pelo desenho digital permitem manter as características do desenho analógico, que fazem
deste um instrumento fundamental para o arquitecto. É importante, também, estudar algumas das
novas potencialidades e soluções que o universo digital disponibiliza, como a utilização de motores de
videojogos para a visualização de arquitectura, que são objecto de exploração no caso de estudo.
Enquanto instrumento de trabalho, o desenho digital influencia as linguagens arquitectónicas
porque, permite explorar campos disciplinares que o analógico por si só não consegue. O processo de
trabalho é diferente e como tal o resultado final é sempre influenciado. É importante referir que tudo
isto não tem como resultado uma perda da autonomia do arquitecto como alegam alguns autores, mas
antes pelo contrário um acréscimo de instrumentos e soluções para o exercício dessa liberdade.
O desenho/modelação digital é um instrumento que, talvez por ser relativamente novo, é
visto ainda com algumas reservas por parte de vários sectores desta disciplina. Este trabalho tenta
explicar o enorme potencial deste instrumento para melhorar todo o processo de projecto e
transformação de espaço, o que faz dele um elemento importante para que a arquitectura continue,
como até aqui, a responder eficazmente às necessidades que a sociedade lhe apresenta.

This work constitutes the first contribution for the systematisation of geological heritage knowledge in Portugal, following the international recommendations for the characterisation of geological ...heritage （IUGS, ProGEO）. The application of the ProGEO methodology has resulted in the creation of fourteen frameworks with international relevance, established by consensus among the Portuguese geological community. The description of each category in this paper is not exhaustive and only the most relevant scientific settings are presented. The following are the three key outcomes of this work： i） At a national level, the most important geosites are identified, indicating where geoconservation efforts should be prioritised based on scientific justification; ii） At a regional level, conditions have been developed to foster dialogue with Spanish colleagues in order to create Iberian frameworks; iii） At an international level, it is now possible to integrate Portuguese geosites into the global inventories promoted by IUGS, UNESCO, and ProGEO.
