In this study, we examine the external part of the Magallanes-Malvinas Fold and Thrust Belt in offshore areas, including a portion in Tierra del Fuego onshore, in southern South America. Our ...investigations focus on the interaction between a thin-skinned fold and thrust belt and the basement in that deformation, considering pre-existing structures acting as stress risers and localizing a possible tectonic inversion. The data is composed of around 14,000 km of 2-D multichannel seismic lines and three exploratory wells, used to analyse the anticlines of the fold and thrust belt in the area. The strike of these folds progressively evolves from NW-SE trending in western onshore regions, to WSW-ENE trending in eastern offshore areas. The fold and thrust belt shows a buttressing effect against the Río Chico Arch. The most shortening is seen in the apex of the Río Chico Arch around 67° W, in the coast of Tierra del Fuego, and gradually decreases eastwards in offshore regions. A connection between basement-involved faults and folds offshore is inferred from the analysis of the Géminis and Ciclón anticlines, developed during the N–S last compressional stage of deformation in the late Oligocene/early Miocene. The Géminis anticline is a fault propagation fold with a total shortening of 205 m with a piggyback basin developed over its backlimb. The location and ENE-WSW strike-direction of the fold have been controlled by a basement-involved fault. The Ciclón anticline is a subtle fold trending WNW-ESE developed as a result of the slight tectonic inversion of a negative flower structure.

The LUX-Dx™ is a novel insertable cardiac monitor (ICM) introduced into the European market since October 2022.
The aim of this investigation was to provide a comprehensive description of the ICM ...implantation experience in Europe during its initial year of commercial use.
The system comprises an incision tool and a single-piece insertion tool pre-loaded with the small ICM. The implantation procedure involves incision, creation of a device pocket, insertion of the ICM, verification of sensing, and incision closure. Patients receive a mobile device with a preloaded App, connecting to their ICM and transmitting data to the management system. Data collected at European centers were analyzed at the time of implantation and before patient discharge.
A total of 368 implantation procedures were conducted across 23 centers. Syncope (235, 64%) and cryptogenic stroke (34, 9%) were the most frequent indications for ICM. Most procedures (338, 92%) were performed in electrophysiology laboratories. All ICMs were successfully implanted in the left parasternal region, oriented at 45° in 323 (88%) patients. Repositioning was necessary after sensing verification in 9 (2%) patients. No procedural complications were reported, with a median time from skin incision to suture of 4 min (25th-75th percentiles 2-7). At implantation, the mean R-wave amplitude was 0.39 ± 0.30 mV and the P-wave visibility was 91 ± 20%. Sensing parameters remained stable until pre-discharge and were not influenced by patient characteristics or indications. Procedural times were fast, exhibited consistency across patient groups, and improved after an initial experience with the system. Operator Operator feedback on the system was positive. Patients reported very good ease of use of the App and low levels of discomfort after implantation.
LUX-Dx™ implantation appears efficient and straightforward, with favorable post-implantation sensing values and associated with positive feedback from operators and patients.
ABSTRACT Supernovae (SNe) exploding in a dense circumstellar medium (CSM) are hypothesized to accelerate cosmic rays in collisionless shocks and emit GeV γ-rays and TeV neutrinos on a timescale of ...several months. We perform the first systematic search for γ-ray emission in Fermi Large Area Telescope data in the energy range from to from the ensemble of 147 SNe Type IIn exploding in a dense CSM. We search for a γ-ray excess at each SNe location in a one-year time window. In order to enhance a possible weak signal, we simultaneously study the closest and optically brightest sources of our sample in a joint-likelihood analysis in three different time windows (1 year, 6 months, and 3 months). For the most promising source of the sample, SN 2010jl (PTF 10aaxf), we repeat the analysis with an extended time window lasting 4.5 years. We do not find a significant excess in γ-rays for any individual source nor for the combined sources and provide model-independent flux upper limits for both cases. In addition, we derive limits on the γ-ray luminosity and the ratio of γ-ray-to-optical luminosity ratio as a function of the index of the proton injection spectrum assuming a generic γ-ray production model. Furthermore, we present detailed flux predictions based on multi-wavelength observations and the corresponding flux upper limit at a 95% confidence level (CL) for the source SN 2010jl (PTF 10aaxf).

Legumes are classified as salt-sensitive crops with their productivity particularly affected by salinity. Abcisic acid (ABA) plays an important role in the response to environmental stresses as signal molecule which led us to study its role in the response of nitrogen fixation and antioxidant metabolism in root nodules of Medicago sativa under salt stress conditions. Adult plants inoculated with Sinorhizobium meliloti were treated with 1μM and 10μM ABA two days before 200mM salt addition. Exogenous ABA together with the salt treatment provoked a strong induction of the ABA content in the nodular tissue which alleviated the inhibition induced by salinity in the plant growth and nitrogen fixation. Antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione reductase (GR) were induced by ABA pre-treatments under salt stress conditions which together with the reduction of the lipid peroxidation, suggest a role for ABA as signal molecule in the activation of the nodular antioxidant metabolism. Interaction between ABA and polyamines (PAs), described as anti-stress molecules, was studied being detected an induction of the common polyamines spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm) levels by ABA under salt stress conditions. In conclusion, ABA pre-treatment improved the nitrogen fixation capacity under salt stress conditions by the induction of the nodular antioxidant defenses which may be mediated by the common PAs Spd and Spm that seems to be involved in the anti-stress response induced by ABA.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of vaginal atrophy (VA) in women across the menopausal age.
Methods: A multicenter cross-sectional investigation was performed on 747 ...females, 40-55 years of age, in 30 outpatient public services across the nation. The VA diagnosis was based on the combination of patient sensation of vaginal dryness, an objective sign of VA, and pH >5.
Results: VA was diagnosed in 36.8% of women. Prevalence ranged from 19.2% (40-45 year olds) to 53.8% (52-55 year olds). pH >5 (37.5%) was less prevalent than isolated VA symptoms or signs. Vaginal dryness (64.0%) was the most prevalent symptom followed by dyspareunia (54.5%), itching (38.5%) burning (38.3%), and dysuria (28.9%). Prevalence of vaginal signs declined from vaginal dryness (60.3%) to vaginal thinning (54.5%), vaginal pallor (47.4%), presence of petecchiae (15.7%), and mucosa fragility (15.1%). Most signs and symptoms showed an age-related increase in frequency and intensity. VA was independently associated (R

= 0.139; p < 0.0001) with age (odds ratio OR 1.08; 95% confidence interval CI 1.03-1.13), being in postmenopause (OR 3.45; 95% CI 2.29-5.19), and presence of vasomotor symptoms (OR 3.10; 95% CI 2.09-4.60).
Conclusion: VA and its symptoms are common in women across the menopausal age. VA identification may favor early management and treatment.
Introduction Long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) are an important and arguably under-utilized therapeutic option, particularly where medication adherence is a priority (Pilon et al. Clin Ther ...2017; 39 1972-1985). In recent years, meta-analytic reviews of depot medications concluded that this route of administration produced clinical advantages in terms of overall outcome, with lower probability of relapse, readmissions, shorter hospital admission time, mortality, and thus better long- term prognosis over other oral antipsychotics (Leucht et al. Schizophr Res 2011;127 83-92). Depot treatment is associated with lower overall medical expenditure (Taipal et al. Schizophr Bull 2018;17 1381- 1387). Objectives To describe the evolution of people diagnosed with a psychotic disorder 6 months before and after the introduction of long-acting injectable antipsychotic (LAI) in the acute psychiatric unit of San Rafael Hospital (Spain) from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018. Methods Retrospective and prospective naturalistic study. Patients with a diagnosis of psychotic disorder who were admitted to the acute psychiatric unit in 2018 and who were introduced to LAI (paliperidone palmitate, aripiprazole, olanzapine pamoate or risperidone), are selected. Sociodemographic variables (sex, age, ethnicity, migratory status, marital status, occupation, cohabitation) and clinical variables (main and secondary diagnosis, comorbidity with drug use and history of poor adherence) are described. The number of emergency visits and hospital admissions before and after the introduction of LAI antipsychotic treatment is compared. Results The sample was composed of 99 subjects. The mean age was 42.46 years (SD 13.439) and 67.7% were men. The socio-demographic profile was: european caucasian ethnicity (73.7%), non- migrant status (69.7%), single (67.7%), inactive (43.4%) and residing in the home of relatives (50.5%). 53.5% have a diagnosis of schizophrenia, followed by schizoaffective disorder (24.2%). 45.5% are diagnosed with any drug use disorder, the most frequent being cannabis (30.3%). 76.8% have a history of discontinuing oral treatment. There was a statistically significant decrease (p<0.0001) in number of emergency visits and hospital admissions after the introduction of LAI antipsychotic. In the general linear multivariate before-after model, there were significant differences (p=0.002) in the number of admissions after long-term IM antipsychotic treatment. As for the comparison of the effects between the different LAIs, there are differences between them (p< 0.0001). Post-hoc analysis (Bonferroni) only showed differential significance for treatment with Paliperidone Palmitate (p<0.0001). Conclusions The use of LAI antipsychotic can reduce the number of emergency room visits and hospital admissions, in line with literature. Disclosure of Interest None Declared
ABSTRACT RCW 86 is a young supernova remnant (SNR) showing a shell-type structure at several wavelengths and is thought to be an efficient cosmic-ray (CR) accelerator. Earlier Fermi Large Area ...Telescope results reported the detection of γ-ray emission coincident with the position of RCW 86 but its origin (leptonic or hadronic) remained unclear due to the poor statistics. Thanks to 6.5 years of data acquired by the Fermi-LAT and the new event reconstruction Pass 8, we report the significant detection of spatially extended emission coming from RCW 86. The spectrum is described by a power-law function with a very hard photon index ( ) in the 0.1-500 GeV range and an energy flux above 100 MeV of ( ) erg cm−2 s−1. Gathering all the available multiwavelength (MWL) data, we perform a broadband modeling of the nonthermal emission of RCW 86 to constrain parameters of the nearby medium and bring new hints about the origin of the γ-ray emission. For the whole SNR, the modeling favors a leptonic scenario in the framework of a two-zone model with an average magnetic field of 10.2 0.7 G and a limit on the maximum energy injected into protons of 2 × 1049 erg for a density of 1 cm−3. In addition, parameter values are derived for the north-east and south-west (SW) regions of RCW 86, providing the first indication of a higher magnetic field in the SW region.
Avenanthramides (AVNs) are natural polyphenols obtained from oat sprouts and can also be chemically synthetized. The aim of the present study was to assess the anticancer, anti-inflammatory and ...antioxidant effects of individual synthetized AVNs (s-2c, s-2p, s-2f) and a natural AVN mixture (n-MIX) on CaCo-2 and Hep3B cancer cells. In CaCo-2, the AVN s-2c was found to be the most cytotoxic followed by the n-MIX. In Hep3B cells, a marked cytotoxic effect was found but no significant difference was observed between the synthesized AVNs and the n-MIX. In both CaCo-2 and Hep3B cells, natural and synthetic AVNs activated caspases 8 and 3, and the n-MIX and the AVN s-2c were also able to activate caspase 2. Both synthetic and natural AVNs downregulated pro-survival genes hTERT, COX-2 and MDR1, inhibited the activity of pro-inflammatory COX-2 enzyme and reduced prostaglandin E2 levels, showing the potent chemopreventive effects of these oat-derived phytochemicals. Synthetic AVN s-2c was found to have the highest chemical antioxidant capacity, as indicated by ORAC, DPPH and ABTS values, whereas all AVNs and n-MIX were shown to have similar intracellular antioxidant activity, evaluated by means of the DCFH-DA assay. As AVNs have high bioavailability in humans, results of this study suggest that oat-based foods, fortified with AVNs, could be an alternative to produce functional foods with anticancer, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects for health benefits.
Sequencing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) from liquid biopsies may better assess tumor heterogeneity than limited sampling of tumor tissue. Here, we explore ctDNA-based heterogeneity and its ...correlation with treatment outcome in STEAM, which assessed efficacy and safety of concurrent and sequential FOLFOXIRI-bevacizumab (BEV) vs. FOLFOX-BEV for first-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer. We sequenced 146 pre-induction and 89 post-induction patient plasmas with a 198-kilobase capture-based assay, and applied Mutant-Allele Tumor Heterogeneity (MATH), a traditionally tissue-based calculation of allele frequency distribution, on somatic mutations detected in plasma. Higher levels of MATH, particularly in the post-induction sample, were associated with shorter progression-free survival (PFS). Patients with high MATH vs. low MATH in post-induction plasma had shorter PFS (7.2 vs. 11.7 months; hazard ratio, 3.23; 95% confidence interval, 1.85−5.63; log-rank p < 0.0001). These results suggest ctDNA-based tumor heterogeneity may have potential prognostic value in metastatic cancers.
We present the analysis of Fermi Large Area Telescope gamma -ray observations of HB 21 (G89.0+4.7). We detect significant gamma -ray emission associated with the remnant; the flux > 100 MeV is 9.4 + ...or - 0.8 (stat) + or - 1.6 (syst) x 10 super(-11) erg cm super(-2) s super(-1). HB 21 is well modeled by a uniform disk centered at l = 88degrees.75 + or - 0degrees.04, b = +4degrees.65 + or - 0degrees.06 with a radius of 1degrees.19 + or - 0degrees.06. The gamma -ray spectrum shows clear evidence of curvature, suggesting a cutoff or break in the underlying particle population at an energy of a few GeV. We complement gamma -ray observations with the analysis of the WMAP 7 yr data from 23 to 93 GHz, achieving the first detection of HB 21 at these frequencies. In combination with archival radio data, the radio spectrum shows a special break, which helps to constrain the relativistic electron spectrum, and, in turn, parameters of simple non-thermal radiation models. In one-zone models multi wavelength data favor the origin of gamma rays from nucleon-nucleon collisions. A single population of electrons cannot produce both gamma rays through bremsstrahlung and radio emission through synchrotron radiation. A predominantly inverse-Compton origin of the gamma -ray emission is disfavored because it requires lower interstellar densities than are inferred for HB 21. In the hadronic-dominated scenarios, accelerated nuclei contribute a total energy of ~3 x 10 super(49) erg, while, in a two-zone bremsstrahlung-dominated scenario, the total energy in accelerated particles is ~1 x 10 super(49) erg.
