The ASTRI Mini-Array is an international collaboration led by the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF) that will operate nine telescopes to perform Cherenkov and optical stellar ...intensity interferometry (SII) observations. At the focal plane of these telescopes, we are planning to install a stellar intensity interferometry instrument. Here we present the selected design, based on Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) detectors matching the telescope point spread function together with dedicated front-end electronics.

Dans cet article, je montrerai comment le rôle des mercenaires crétois dans le royaume séleucide a profondément changé entre le deuxième et le premier siècle avant Jésus-Christ.
The Seleucid army probably made use of Cretan mercenary troops since the reign of Antiochus I (281-260). Epigraphic and literary evidence demonstrates this strong correlation throughout the entire ...third century. Then, in the mid second century, the rise of the Cretan Lasthenes to the highest position at the court of Demetrius II (145-138/ 129-125) reflects a wider social transformation of the Seleucid chain of command. In this paper I will show how the role of the Cretan mercenaries in the Seleucid kingdom deeply changed between the second and the first century BC.

El ejército seléucida recurrió sin duda a tropas mercenarias cretenses desde el reinado de Antíoco I (281-260). Las pruebas epigráficas y literarias demuestran esta fuerte correlación durante todo el siglo III. Luego, a mediados del siglo II, el ascenso del cretense Lóstenes a la más alta posición en la corte de Demetrio II (145-138/129-125) refleja una transformación social más amplia de la cadena de mando seléucida. En este trabajo mostraré cómo el papel de los mercenarios cretenses en el reino seléucida cambió profundamente entre el siglo II y el i a. C.

High-performance imaging systems play a fundamental role in space and planetary observation. Traditional cameras require actuators coupled with movable elements to scan large scenarios and overcome ...their limited field of view. Extra equipment increases the mass budget and the instrument complexity, as well as the risk of failure. Panoramic optics constitute a valid solution to enhance the imaging systems robustness while enlarging the camera field of view, all with a single compact device. In this paper, the feasibility of employing an off-the-shelf optical system based on a hyper-hemispheric panoramic lens for planetary observation has been assessed. In particular, the supporting frame of the aforementioned optical system has been designed to withstand a general space environment, i.e. temperature variation between −120°C and + 120°C, and considering loading during launch. A design solution is proposed, resulting from a kinematic-like mounting system to safely endure the thermal environment. In order to validate the obtained design, a mockup has been manufactured, assembled, and tested in a representative mechanical environment, exhibiting good agreement with the dynamic behaviour predicted by the developed numerical models.

Denoising is a common preprocessing step prior to the analysis and interpretation of hyperspectral images (HSIs). However, the vast majority of methods typically adopted for HSI denoising exploit ...architectures originally developed for grayscale or RGB images, exhibiting limitations when processing high-dimensional HSI data cubes. In particular, traditional methods do not take into account the high spectral correlation between adjacent bands in HSIs, which leads to unsatisfactory denoising performance as the rich spectral information present in HSIs is not fully exploited. To overcome this limitation, this article considers deep learning models-such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs)-to perform spectral-spatial HSI denoising. The proposed model, called HSI single denoising CNN (HSI-SDeCNN), efficiently takes into consideration both the spatial and spectral information contained in HSIs. Experimental results on both synthetic and real data demonstrate that the proposed HSI-SDeCNN outperforms other state-of-the-art HSI denoising methods. Brain small vessel disease (SVD) refers to a variety of structural and functional changes affecting small arteries and micro vessels, and manifesting as white matter changes, microbleeds and lacunar ...infarcts. Growing evidence indicates that SVD might play a significant role in the neurobiology of central nervous system (CNS) neurodegenerative disorders, namely Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), and neuroinflammatory diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS). These disorders share different pathophysiological pathways and molecular mechanisms (i.e., protein misfolding, derangement of cellular clearance systems, mitochondrial impairment and immune system activation) having neurodegeneration as biological outcome. In these diseases, the actual contribution of SVD to the clinical picture, and its impact on response to pharmacological treatments, is not known yet. Due to the high frequency of SVD in adult-aged patients, it is important to address this issue. In this review, we report preclinical and clinical data on the impact of SVD in AD, PD and MS, with the main aim of clarifying the predictability of SVD on clinical manifestations and treatment response.
