Ker je njeno življenje zaznamoval preplet zgodovinskih dogodkov, saj se je njena usoda odigrala v zadnjih rojalističnih vzdihljajih pred rdečim zastorom francoske revolucije. Ker je bila postavljena na mesto kraljice tujemu ljudstvu, ki ga ni razumela. Ker so se uresničile besede njenega brata Jožefa II.: "Revolucija bo grozna, če je ne pripraviš ti." Njena zgodba je presek zgodb evropske zgodovine, francoske revolucije in usode ženske, ki si je želela živeti svoje življenje odmaknjeno od kraljevskih ceremonialov in dvorne etikete. Njeno skrivno življenje je botrovalo številnim zgodbicam in obrekovanjem, ki so krožila o njej.
