The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between the number of extraordinary events and the total number of accidents and serious accidents in railway traffic. The purpose of the ...paper is to estimate the total number of accidents and serious accidents on the track network of Croatian Railway Infrastructure (HŽI) until 2027. The results of the research are based on secondary data that are the subject of processing using statistical methods of correlation and regression analysis. The main finding of this paper points to the existence of a strong and positive relationship between the number of extraordinary events and the total number of accidents and serious accidents in railway traffic. The estimated number of extraordinary events and total number of accidents and serious accidents until 2027 indicates a trend of their further reduction.
The paper aims to determine the interdependence between quality ratings and the level of satisfaction of Rijeka’s inhabitants with the city’s public urban transport system. The purpose of the study ...is to identify the effects that the individual elements of citizens’ satisfaction with public urban transport services have on public urban transport quality ratings. To accomplish the study’s objective and purpose, and to prove the main hypothesis that there is a statistically strong and positive relationship between quality ratings and satisfaction with public urban transport, numerous scientific methods have been applied, in particular the survey method, the method of analysis and synthesis, and the methods of descriptive and inferential statistics. The study’s main finding points to the low quality of Rijeka’s public urban transport system and to the low level of satisfaction of citizens with the system. A statistically strong and positive relationship was found between quality ratings and the satisfaction of citizens with public urban transport services. Citizens are the least satisfied with the frequency of public transport intensity and the availability of urban transport in evening.
Since the Republic of Croatia is one of the most popular European and world tourist destinations, the aim of this paper is, from the user’s (n = 596) point of view, to research the importance of ...stationary traffic in tourist destinations. The purpose of this paper is to point out the possibilities of improving the tourist destination quality and sustainability through an adequate parking service. In order to corroborate constructed scientific hypotheses, a larger number of scientific methods were used from which a polling method, analysis and synthesis method, descriptive statistics method, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) should be singled out. The major finding of this paper indicates a relatively big importance of stationary traffic (M = 6.51; SD = 2.21) as an element of tourist destination quality. Moreover, regarding the quality of tourist destination, the results of this paper suggest that the parking space availability is more important than the way parking or parking payment are organized. Between the experienced parking problem in a tourist destination and age on one side and evaluation of the importance of stationary traffic as an element of tourist destination quality on the other side, a statistically important connection was established. Gained knowledge can be particularly helpful to hotel industry managers but also to traffic managers whose duty is to provide an adequate number of parking spaces in tourist destinations.
The aim of this paper is to determine the interdependence between allocations to culture and the satisfaction of citizens with the programme content of theatres in the city of Rijeka, the 2020 ...European Capital of Culture. Of the ten hypotheses formulated in the paper, five are accepted and five, rejected. This study has applied several scientific methods, in particular the methods of descriptive and inferential statistics (correlation analysis, t-test, ANOVA). The principle finding of this paper indicates that the level of satisfaction of Rijeka's citizens with allocations to culture, sports and social activities and, consequently, with allocations to theatres, is low. The satisfaction of citizens with the theatres' programme contents is statistically more significantly determined by demographic variables than by satisfaction with allocations to culture, sport and social activities.
The basic objective of this scientific paper is to explore in both theory and practice the elasticity of demand in urban traffic. We tried to answer whether the elasticity of demand in urban traffic ...shows a higher intensity of change in the demanded volume of transport services depending on price or income changes. Research results are based on the statistical and mathematical scientific methods. The applicability of the acquired knowledge is tested through a practical research of the elasticity of demand in urban traffic of the city of Rijeka.
The aim of this paper is to examine the interdependence between the quality of life measured by gross domestic product per capita (GDP/p.c.) and the happiness of population measured by the happiness ...index. The analysis is based on recent data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on GDP/p.c. as well as the report from the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network on the World Happiness Index. The subjects of analysis are the happiness of the population of Southeast European countries in European and global contexts and the level of GDP/p.c. at which the amount of happiness becomes independent of income. The research results are based on descriptive and inferential statistics methods. The main finding of this paper points to the need for a significant increase in quality of life in order to increase the happiness of the population of Southeast European countries.
The basic aim of this paper is to research the importance of supply chain optimization in the circumstances of the COVID-19 crisis. The research object is the optimum selection of active participants ...before and after the COVID-19 crisis. The initial hypothesis of this paper is that optimal COVID-19-free supply chains can be formed with a dynamic programming method, the costs of which will be higher than those when this restriction would not exist, but significantly lower than those formed if the optimization principle in the selection of supply chain stakeholders would be neglected. Research results in this scientific discussion paper are based on the analysis and synthesis method, comparative method, and dynamic programming method. The main findings of this paper point to the conclusion that the COVID-19 crisis affected the reduction of goods flow within supply chains, reduction of potential participants in supply chains, reduction of supply chains business safety, and increase in business costs.
Project implementation is one of the key activities in the process of ensuring development. In public institutions, the challenges in project management are particularly evident. Organizational ...inflexibility and an inability to adequately evaluate work are particularly emphasized, often creating problems during project implementation. These challenges become even greater if the financing of the project is planned with EU grants or other financial instruments that require great precision and thus exceptional project management skills. This document will present an effective project management model, as well as programs and portfolios in regional self-government units. A methodology has been developed to encourage the transformation of public systems from rigidly functional to project systems. The methodology was tested in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Republic of Croatia. An analysis of the quality of implementation of twenty projects has been carried out: an analysis of the final results of ten projects in which the methodology has been applied and of ten projects in which the methodology has not been applied. After conducting empirical research and analysis, the quality of the proposed model was proven at all levels of governance within the public sector. By applying this methodology, significant advances can be made in the quality of realized projects while ensuring the realistic dynamics of this realization and rational financial costs.
The main goal of this academic discussion is to study the effect of subsidies on the offer of sea transport. Research results are based on the method of microeconomic analysis. The knowledge obtained ...through this academic discussion may prove to be of assistance to managers in the area of sea transport in deliberating on more efficient and market-oriented business models. The results of this work reveal that subsidies in sea transport make sense if they contribute to the improvement of the quality of transport or are of help to those for whom they are intended.
