Pillared graphene structures, from a practical viewpoint, are very interesting novel carbon materials. Combining the properties of graphene and nanotubes, such as durability, chemical purity and a ...controlled structure, they were proven to be effective membranes for noble gas separation processes. Here, we examine their possible use for other, more commercially useful gas mixture separation,
i.e.
air and coal gas. The mechanism of air gas transport through the pillar channels is studied, and the prospective application of 2-D pillared membranes in effusion-like processes provided. The separative abilities of hybrid systems consisting of membranes with different channel diameters in relation to coal gas are proven to be promising.
In this study we examine the ability of pillared graphene membranes to separate the species of two gas mixtures that are important from an industrial point of view: air and coal gas.
It has been found that Figure 30 shows the 68% and 99% confidence-level contours for the W boson and top quark mass measurements, instead of the 68% and 95% confidence-level contours, as stated in ...the legend.
The performance of the missing transverse momentum ( Formula omitted) reconstruction with the ATLAS detector is evaluated using data collected in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at a ...centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 2015. To reconstruct Formula omitted, fully calibrated electrons, muons, photons, hadronically decaying Formula omitted, and jets reconstructed from calorimeter energy deposits and charged-particle tracks are used. These are combined with the soft hadronic activity measured by reconstructed charged-particle tracks not associated with the hard objects. Possible double counting of contributions from reconstructed charged-particle tracks from the inner detector, energy deposits in the calorimeter, and reconstructed muons from the muon spectrometer is avoided by applying a signal ambiguity resolution procedure which rejects already used signals when combining the various Formula omitted contributions. The individual terms as well as the overall reconstructed Formula omitted are evaluated with various performance metrics for scale (linearity), resolution, and sensitivity to the data-taking conditions. The method developed to determine the systematic uncertainties of the Formula omitted scale and resolution is discussed. Results are shown based on the full 2015 data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of Formula omitted.
Measurements of fiducial integrated and differential cross sections for inclusive Formula omitted, Formula omitted and Z boson production are reported. They are based on Formula omitted of pp ...collision data at Formula omitted TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Electron and muon decay channels are analysed, and the combined Formula omitted, Formula omitted and Z integrated cross sections are found to be Formula omitted pb, Formula omitted pb, and Formula omitted pb, in good agreement with next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD cross-section calculations. These measurements serve as references for Pb+Pb interactions at the LHC at Formula omitted TeV.
A search for high-mass resonances decaying to τν using proton-proton collisions at sqrts=13 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider is presented. Only τ-lepton decays with hadrons in the final ...state are considered. The data were recorded with the ATLAS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb^{-1}. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed; model-independent upper limits are set on the visible τν production cross section. Heavy W^{'} bosons with masses less than 3.7 TeV in the sequential standard model and masses less than 2.2-3.8 TeV depending on the coupling in the nonuniversal G(221) model are excluded at the 95% credibility level.
Searches for non-resonant and resonant Higgs boson pair production are performed in the Formula omitted channel with the final state of Formula omitted using 36.1 Formula omitted of proton-proton ...collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of Formula omitted13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction is observed. A 95% confidence-level observed upper limit of 7.7 pb is set on the cross section for non-resonant production, while the expected limit is 5.4 pb. A search for a narrow-width resonance X decaying to a pair of Standard Model Higgs bosons HH is performed with the same set of data, and the observed upper limits on Formula omitted range between 40.0 and 6.1 pb for masses of the resonance between 260 and 500 GeV, while the expected limits range between 17.6 and 4.4 pb. When deriving the limits above, the Standard Model branching ratios of the Formula omitted and Formula omitted are assumed.
Measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy in lead-lead collisions at Formula omitted = 5.02 TeV are presented using a data sample corresponding to 0.49 Formula omitted integrated luminosity collected ...by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015. The recorded minimum-bias sample is enhanced by triggers for "ultra-central" collisions, providing an opportunity to perform detailed study of flow harmonics in the regime where the initial state is dominated by fluctuations. The anisotropy of the charged-particle azimuthal angle distributions is characterized by the Fourier coefficients, Formula omitted- Formula omitted, which are measured using the two-particle correlation, scalar-product and event-plane methods. The goal of the paper is to provide measurements of the differential as well as integrated flow harmonics Formula omitted over wide ranges of the transverse momentum, 0.5 Formula omitted 60 GeV, the pseudorapidity, Formula omitted 2.5, and the collision centrality 0-80%. Results from different methods are compared and discussed in the context of previous and recent measurements in Pb+Pb collisions at Formula omitted = 2.76 Formula omitted and 5.02 Formula omitted. In particular, the shape of the Formula omitteddependence of elliptic or triangular flow harmonics is observed to be very similar at different centralities after scaling the Formula omitted and Formula omittedvalues by constant factors over the centrality interval 0-60% and the Formula omittedrange 0.5 Formula omitted 5 GeV.
The elliptic flow of prompt and non-prompt Formula omitted was measured in the dimuon decay channel in Pb+Pb collisions at Formula omitted Formula omitted with an integrated luminosity of Formula ...omitted with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The prompt and non-prompt signals are separated using a two-dimensional simultaneous fit of the invariant mass and pseudo-proper decay time of the dimuon system from the Formula omitted decay. The measurement is performed in the kinematic range of dimuon transverse momentum and rapidity Formula omitted Formula omitted, Formula omitted, and 0-60% collision centrality. The elliptic flow coefficient, Formula omitted, is evaluated relative to the event plane and the results are presented as a function of transverse momentum, rapidity and centrality. It is found that prompt and non-prompt Formula omitted mesons have non-zero elliptic flow. Prompt Formula omitted Formula omitted decreases as a function of Formula omitted, while for non-prompt Formula omitted it is, with limited statistical significance, consistent with a flat behaviour over the studied kinematic region. There is no observed dependence on rapidity or centrality.
We present the first comprehensive tests of the universality of the light leptons in the angular distributions of semileptonic B^{0}-meson decays to charged spin-1 charmed mesons. We measure five ...angular-asymmetry observables as functions of the decay recoil that are sensitive to lepton-universality-violating contributions. We use events where one neutral B is fully reconstructed in ϒ(4S)→BBover ¯ decays in data corresponding to 189 fb^{-1} integrated luminosity from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We find no significant deviation from the standard model expectations.
Previous studies have shown that weighted angular moments derived from jet constituents encode the colour connections between partons that seed the jets. This paper presents measurements of two such ...distributions, the jet-pull angle and jet-pull magnitude, both of which are derived from the jet-pull angular moment. The measurement is performed in Formula omitted events with one leptonically decaying W boson and one hadronically decaying W boson, using Formula omitted of pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at Formula omitted delivered by the Large Hadron Collider. The observables are measured for two dijet systems, corresponding to the colour-connected daughters of the W boson and the two b-jets from the top-quark decays, which are not expected to be colour connected. To allow the comparison of the measured distributions to colour model predictions, the measured distributions are unfolded to particle level, after correcting for experimental effects introduced by the detector. While good agreement can be found for some combinations of predictions and observables, none of the predictions describes the data well across all observables.
