Starting from insights into the inequalities that stem from the effect students' cultural capital has on their academic achievement, and relatively scarce evidence on whether classroom-level ...pedagogical interventions could help reduce those inequalities, in this study we aim to explore whether teacher support moderates the relationship between cultural capital and students' reading performance. In addition, we analysed whether the moderation effect is the same across different education systems, or depends on equity between systems. We used data from PISA 2018 to test a simple moderation model with cultural capital as the independent variable, teacher support - the moderator, and reading performance as the dependent variable. The findings suggest that the correlation between cultural capital and students' reading performance is moderated by teacher support. However, the nature of the moderation effect differs in education systems with the lowest and education systems with the highest correlation between cultural capital and reading performance.
Serbian ethnology and anthropology is missing papers on folk belief and magic practices on black and white magic. This paper problematizes research on Vlach magic as an authentic and archaic culture ...of the ethnic Vlachs in North-Eastern Serbia. The first part of the paper deals with theoretical concepts of magic, while the second presents the results of research on the relationship between young people in Bor towards Vlach magic, as part of traditional folk religion and archaic cultural heritage which is still relevant today.
Čuda i čudesa u Srbiji poslednjih dvadesetak godina bitno su obeležje procesa desekularizacije koji se odvija na različitim nivoima. Srpska pravoslavna crkva teži da revitalizuje crkveno pravoslavlje ...i privuče što više vernika, međutim, među vernicima se istovremeno revitalizuje i narodno pravoslavlje kroz populističke interpretacije sa elementima narodne religije. U ovom radu se analizira javna produkcija čuda u Srbiji na osnovu medijskih izvora, a zatim, lična iskustva ispitanika koji svedoče o nekim manifestacijama čuda.
The revitalization of religion in postsocialism is followed by the revitalization of individual narratives about religious life in socialism. On the one hand, the lived experience is connected to the ...contemporary revitalization of religion and the public discourse promoted by the Serbian Orthodox church on the repression it suffered during socialism, and on the other hand, interlocutors tell of their positive experiences which stand in contrast to official stories. The research presented in this paper is directed toward the conceptualization of individual narratives which actualize the memories of the faithful of the life during socialism. Special attention has been paid to those aspects of the past which interlocutors consider relevant for interpreting their own relationship with religion, meanings attributed to memories and ways in which they are connected and interpreted i the context of the present.
Starting with the fact that school education has failed to become education for critical thinking and that one of the reasons for that could be in how education for critical thinking is ...conceptualised, this paper presents: (1) an analysis of the predominant approach to education for critical thinking through the implementation of special programs and methods, and (2) an attempt to establish different approaches to education for critical thinking. The overview and analysis of understanding education for developing critical thinking as the implementation of special programs reveal that it is perceived as a decontextualised activity, reduced to practicing individual intellectual skills. Foundations for a different approach, which could be characterised as the 'education for critical competencies', are found in ideas of critical pedagogy and open curriculum theory. This approach differs from the predominant approach in terms of how the nature and purpose of critical thinking and education for critical thinking are understood. In the approach of education for critical competencies, it is not sufficient to introduce special programs and methods for the development of critical thinking to the existing educational system. This approach emphasises the need to question and reconstruct the status, role, and power of pupils and teachers in the teaching process, but also in the process of curriculum development. The reality show "Big Brother" represents a metaphor for the transformation of contemporary media toward its commercialization and the primate which is given to entertainment as opposed to classic ...informative and educational content, which, in Serbia, takes place in the context of post-socialist transformation. The hyper commercialized character of "Big Brother" is the product of a new guiding idea in the media sphere, which is to measure success only on the criteria of ratings. In all versions of "Big Brother" (the "ordinary" as well as VIP), the framework of the reality show is made up of two elements: the phenomenon of surveillance and the commercial principle of the programme. In this paper we wanted to take these two themes - surveillance and commercialization - and connect them through the concepts of the "panopticon"/"synopticon" and "ratings". In the analysis and discussion we will show that the newfangled criteria of "ratings" is directly dependent on the situation in which the viewers of the reality format find themselves, situations in which "many view and decide on the fate of the few". We will analyze the ways in which the very production of the reality show is geared toward influencing the ratings, through interventions and the direction done by the production team, but also the reception of the show in specialized forums. In the second case, a netography of the reception of VIP BB 2013 was undertaken, taking into account the discussions in the forum and the monitoring of YouTube videos. Based on this, we singled out the most viewed moments in the reality show, and considered the reasons why certain events and/or actors who participated in them garnered special attention among viewers, thus increasing the ratings of the show, but also multiplicating the commercial effect through the participation of viewers through different media platforms (websites, forums, online votes etc.)
Verski pluralizam u zatvorima u Srbiji analiziran je na osnovu narativa osuđenika. Svim osuđenicima zakonski su garantovane jednake mogućnosti za ostvarivanje verskih prava. U prvom delu rada ...prikazujem šta je učinjeno na obezbeđivanju uslova da se ta prava realizuju. U drugom delu rada, na osnovu narativa zatvorenika o predstavama, praksama i međusobnim interakcijama sa pripadnicima drugih religija, istražujem kako se verski pluralizmi procenjuju, negiraju, prihvataju ili osporavaju.
Rijaliti šou "Veliki brat" predstavlja metaforu transformacije savremenih medija u pravcu njihove komercijalizacije i primata koji se daje zabavi u odnosu na klasične informativne i obrazovne ...sadržaje, što se u Srbiji dešava u kontekstu post-socijalističke transformacije. Hiperkomercijalni karakter VB je proizvod delovanja nove rukovodeće ideje u medijskoj sferi, a to je da se njihova uspešnost meri isključivo prema kriterijumu gledanosti. U svim verzijama Velikog brata ("obični" i VIP), okosnicu rijaliti programa čine dva elementa: fenomen nadzora i princip komercijalnosti programa. U ovom radu želele smo da te dve teme – nadzor i komercijalizaciju – povežemo kroz koncepte “panoptikona”/“sinoptikona“ i “gledanosti”, pokazujući u analizi da novoustoličeni kriterijum “gledanosti” direktno zavisi od situacije u kojoj se nalaze gledaoci ovog rijaliti formata, situacije u kojoj “njih mnogo gleda i odlučuje o sudbini njih malo”. Analiziraćemo načine na koji se nastoji uticati na gledanost u samoj proizvodnji rijalitija, kroz intervencije i usmeravanje radnje koje vrši produkcijski tim, ali i recepciju rijalitija na specijalizovanim forumima. U ovom drugom slučaju, sprovedena je netografija recepcije VIP VB 2013, uzimajući u obzir diskusije na forumu i praćenje video snimaka na jutjubu. Na osnovu toga izdvojile smo najgledanije momente u rijalitiju, i sagledale razloge zbog kojih su pojedini događaji i/ili njihovi akteri zavredeli posebnu pažnju među gledaocima, povećavajući gledanost rijalitija, ali i multiplicirajući komercijalni efekat kroz učešće gledalaca na različitim medijskim platformama (sajtovi, forumi, internet glasanje i sl.).
Over the last 20 years, miracles and miraculous acts have been an important part of the multi-layered process of desecularization in Serbia. The Serbian Orthodox Church is trying to revitalize ...orthodoxy as interpreted by the church and draw in as many believers as possible. At the same time, the folk orthodox variant of Christianity is being revitalized among the faithful, mostly through populist interpretations with elements of folk religion. This paper analyzes the public production of miracles in Serbia based mostly on material drawn from the media, but also on personal testimonies of informants who have witnessed such events.
American sociologist of Austrian origin, Peter L. Berger, is one of the most significant sociologists of religion in the 20th and 21st century. In this work I present, pursuant to my opinion and ...choice, the most important research issues Berger dealt with within the social construction of reality, religion, secularization, desecularization and religious pluralism. It was my aim to highlight, among other things, that which is common to Berger's sociological approach to religion and the anthropological researches. The basic idea, pointed out in the title of the work, the search for the sense and meaning of religion, is reviewed through examples of similarities and differences between Clifford Geertz and Berger. The category of "meaning" served as a key to understanding of culture, and even religion as a cultural system which transfers meaning.
