The study's overarching objective is to determine whether or not CSR improves students' reading comprehension. Twenty-five students from one public secondary school in Bengkulu Tengah served as the ...study's sample. The study used a pre- and post-test to gather data in a quasi-experimental equivalent time-series design. Since there is only one group in the research, a control group is unnecessary. The normality of the data was a prerequisite for using the one sample t-test formula to assess the hypothesis. In this study, the researchers employed the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test to examine whether or not the data were normally distributed. The results of this research showed that the experimental group's class post-test mean score of 83.54 exceeded the class pre-test mean score of 51.94. Based on the findings, it is clear that the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) approach significantly improved students' ability to understand what they read.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic foot ulcers remain serious worldwide health problems. Caffeic acid is one of the natural products that has been experimentally proven to have diverse ...pharmacological properties. This study aimed to assess the inhibitory activity of caffeic acid and ethanolic extract of spent coffee grounds targeting DPP-4 and MMP-9 enzymes and evaluate the molecular interactions through 50-ns molecular dynamics simulations. This study also introduced our new version of PyPLIF HIPPOS, PyPLIF HIPPOS 0.2.0, which allowed us to identify protein–ligand interaction fingerprints and interaction hotspots resulting from molecular dynamics simulations. Our findings revealed that caffeic acid inhibited the DPP-4 and MMP-9 activity with an IC50 of 158.19 ± 11.30 µM and 88.99 ± 3.35 µM while ethanolic extract of spent coffee grounds exhibited an IC50 of 227.87 ± 23.80 µg/100 µL and 81.24 ± 6.46 µg/100 µL, respectively. Molecular dynamics simulations showed that caffeic acid interacted in the plausible allosteric sites of DPP-4 and in the active site of MMP-9. PyPLIF HIPPOS 0.2.0 identified amino acid residues interacting more than 10% throughout the simulation, which were Lys463 and Trp62 in the plausible allosteric site of DPP-4 and His226 in the active site of MMP-9.

Teaching is an activity involving semiotic resources beyond verbal language. Therefore, more studies investigating what semiotic resources are employed and how they are utilized within EFL classroom ...settings are needed. This study sought to explore the types of semiotic resources employed by two EFL teachers in Indonesia and the roles of these semiotic resources in teaching activities. Through a qualitative case study, two EFL teachers in Bandung and Medan, Indonesia, were purposively selected. Data collection was through a semi-structured interview and document analysis. A six-phase of thematic analysis was employed to analyze the interview results, while a three-step of skimming, reading, and interpretation was used to analyze the documents. This study found that spoken language, pictures, videos, proxemics, gestures, head movements, gaze, and music were the semiotic resources used by both teachers in their teaching. The findings also demonstrated that these semiotic resources were used in the opening, delivering, and closing of the class, explaining learning content, performing interactions with students, checking the students' progress, managing classroom order, showing appreciation, and conducting evaluations. This study implies the crucial roles of all stakeholders in education to help EFL teachers in multimodal knowledge and practical strategy to create better teaching outcomes.

The working pattern in traditional society still becomes an exciting topic to investigate as they portray how society makes their living. The research aims at investigating the relationship between ...employer and employee in fishing management in Kelurahan Pasar Bengkulu, Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. The study employed a phenomenology-based qualitative approach, with participants chosen using a purposive sampling technique. Data were gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by reducing, describing, and verifying data. The standards of credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability are confirmed to validate the data. The findings signified that:1) the patron-client symbolizes exploitation in which most business is dominated by the middlemen, while the fishermen only play a role as the executors during the fishing process. Additionally, the patron-client relationship represents an imbalance of fishery profit sharing; 2) such a relationship does contribute to fishermen’s structural and cultural poverty. The cooperation between labor associations and governance active role supported by financial aid from related parties is highly recommended to promote fishermen’s wealth.
Bone tissue engineering offers a novel therapy for repairing bone defects or fractures. However, it is becoming increasingly challenging because an ideal scaffold should possess a similar porous ...structure, high biocompatibility, and mechanical properties that match those of natural bone. To fabricate such a scaffold, biodegradable polymers are often preferred due to their degradability and tailored structure. This study involved the isolation of chitosan from crab shells (Scylla serrata) waste to use as a biomaterial in combination with hydroxyapatite (HAP) and collagen I (COL I) to mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM) composition of bone. After being cast and freeze-dried, it resulted in an interconnected porous scaffold with a porosity of 51.44% ± 2.28% and a pore diameter of 109.88 μm ± 49.84 μm. The swelling ratio of the crab scaffold was measured at 358.31% ± 25.23%, 363.04% ± 1.56%, and 370.11% ± 3.7% at 1, 3, and 6 h, respectively. Consequently, the scaffold exhibited a degradation ratio of 8.17% ± 2.59%, 21.62% ± 5.43%, 22.59% ± 14.23%, and 23.12% ± 6.28% over the course of 1 to 4 weeks. It demonstrated excellent biocompatibility with MG-63 osteosarcoma cells. Although the compression strength was lower than 2-12 MPa, the crab scaffold can still be applied effectively for non-load-bearing bone defects. Crab shell waste emerges as a promising source of chitosan for tissue engineering applications.
