We present a new occultation event simulator for the Trans-Neptunian Automated Occultation Survey (TAOS II). We have developed a method to compute occultation shadows by small objects with ...non-circular apparent shapes (as may result from an intrinsic morphology or from the projection of a contact binary). The new simulator calculates diffraction features in the occultation shadows, as well as resulting light curves as would be measured by the TAOS II survey system. We include effects such as the spectral type and finite angular size of the occulted star. We find that occultation events, especially by Trans-Neptunian Objects with diameters ∼3 km may be misidentified or mischaracterized when not taking non-spherical shapes into account.

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body,performing a fundamental role in the regulationof diverse processes,among which the metabolism,secretion,storage,and detoxification of ...endogenous and exogenous substances are prominent.Due to these functions,hepatic diseases continue to be among the main threats to public health,and they remain problems throughout the world.Despite enormous advances in modern medicine,there are no completely effective drugs that stimulate hepatic function,that offer complete protection of the organ,or that help to regenerate hepatic cells.Thus,it is necessary to identify pharmaceutical alternatives for the treatment of liver diseases,with the aim of these alternatives being more effective and less toxic.The use of some plants and the consumption of different fruits have played basic roles in human health care,and diverse scientific investigations have indicated that,in those plants and fruits so identified,their beneficial effects can be attributed to the presence of chemical compounds that are called phytochemicals.The present review had as its objective the collecting of data based on research conducted into some fruits(grapefruit,cranberries,and grapes)and plantscactus pear(nopal)and cactus pear fruit,chamomile,silymarin,and spirulina,which are consumed frequently by humans and which have demonstrated hepatoprotective capacity,as well as an analysis of a resin(propolis)and some phytochemicals extracted from fruits,plants,yeasts,and algae,which have been evaluated in different models of hepatotoxicity.
We present simulated results on piston detection applying the classical Ronchi test to a segmented surface. We have found that a piston error in a test segment, induces a change in the transversal ...aberration, that can be analyzed by mutually comparing the fringes frequency in each segment. We propose that the piston term of the segmented surface can be recovered by geometrically relating the change in transversal aberration with the piston term. To test this, we have simulated some ronchigrams for a known piston error, and we have been able to recover this term for a dynamic range comprised among 57nm and 550 microm. For piston errors > 550 microm a change in the transversal aberration can be appreciated and measured in the ronchigrams although these large pistons are now classical defocusings. Thus we have demonstrated that the Ronchi test can be an alternative method for the piston detection with a large dynamic range.

The phase of a suitable object was obtained with a fringe projection experiment by using phase shifting with Dammann gratings. As the spacing of the Dammann gratings can be manipulated, it is ...possible to generate projected thin fringes to improve details of the borders of the object. These gratings have the property that their spacing is not constant, can be programmed, encoded and displayed with versatile performance using a monochromatic source light on a liquid crystal display LCD or by means of a DLP (Digital Light Projector) to develop fringe projection experiments easily and at low cost. As result we have found a high-contrast projection fringes, side and rotation displacements can be better adapted to measure an object. Some fringes images can be generated by fifth order Dammann gratings projected on objects ≤ 20 cm of height.

Reportamos un método cualitativo para detectar errores de pistón en una superficie optica segmentada. Esta prueba es realizada iluminando una superficie segmentada con un frente de onda esférico ...proveniente de un haz linealmente polarizado. El comportamiento angular de los vectores de polarización en el haz reflejado es analizado haciendo mediciones experimentales de los parámetros de Stokes U y Q, rotando el analizador para cuatro posiciones (0, 45, 90 y 135 grados). El espejo utilizado para esta prueba tiene 20 y 120 cm de diámetro y radio de curvatura paraxial, respectivamente.
The resistance of 139 Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) isolates from the city of Monterrey, Northeast Mexico, to first and second-line anti-TB drugs was analysed. A total of 73 isolates were ...susceptible and 66 were resistant to anti-TB drugs. Monoresistance to streptomycin, isoniazid (INH) and ethambutol was observed in 29 cases. Resistance to INH was found in 52 cases and in 29 cases INH resistance was combined with resistance to two or three drugs. A total of 24 isolates were multidrug-resistant (MDR) resistant to at least INH and rifampicin and 11 MDR cases were resistant to five drugs. The proportion of MDR-TB among new TB cases in our target population was 0.72% (1/139 cases). The proportion of MDR-TB among previously treated cases was 25.18% (35/139 cases). The 13 polyresistant and 24 MDR isolates were assayed against the following seven second-line drugs: amikacin (AMK), kanamycin (KAN), capreomycin (CAP), clofazimine (CLF), ethionamide (ETH), ofloxacin (OFL) and cycloserine (CLS). Resistance to CLF, OFL or CLS was not observed. Resistance was detected to ETH (10.80%) and to AMK (2.70%), KAN (2.70%) and CAP (2.70%). One isolate of MDR with primary resistance was also resistant to three second-line drugs. Monterrey has a high prevalence of MDR-TB among previously treated cases and extensively drug-resistant-MTB strains may soon appear.
Abstract Background With the availability of high-quality asthma guidelines worldwide, one possible approach of developing a valid guideline, without re-working the evidence, already analysed by ...major guidelines, is the ADAPTE approach, as was used for the development of National Guidelines on asthma. Methods The guidelines development group (GDG) covered a broad range of experts from medical specialities, primary care physicians and methodologists. The core group of the GDG searched the literature for asthma guidelines 2005 onward, and analysed the 11 best guidelines with AGREE-II to select three mother guidelines. Key clinical questions were formulated covering each step of the asthma management. Results The selected mother guidelines are British Thoracic Society (BTS), GINA and GEMA 2015. Responses to the questions were formulated according to the evidence in the mother guidelines. Recommendations or suggestions were made for asthma treatment in Mexico by the core group, and adjusted during several rounds of a Delphi process, taking into account: 1. Evidence; 2. Safety; 3. Cost; 4. Patient preference – all these set against the background of the local reality. Here the detailed analysis of the evidence present in BTS/GINA/GEMA sections on prevention and diagnosis in paediatric asthma are presented for three age-groups: children with asthma ≤5 years, 6–11 years and ≥12 years. Conclusions For the prevention and diagnosis sections, applying the AGREE-II method is useful to develop a scientifically-sustained document, adjusted to the local reality per country, as is the Mexican Guideline on Asthma.
