Recently acquired WFC3 UV (F275W and F336W) imaging mosaics under the Legacy Extragalactic UV Survey (LEGUS), combined with archival ACS data of M51, are used to study the young star cluster (YSC) ...population of this interacting system. Our newly extracted source catalogue contains 2834 cluster candidates, morphologically classified to be compact and uniform in colour, for which ages, masses and extinction are derived. In this first work we study the main properties of the YSC population of the whole galaxy, considering a mass-limited sample. Both luminosity and mass functions follow a power-law shape with slope -2, but at high luminosities and masses a dearth of sources is observed. The analysis of the mass function suggests that it is best fitted by a Schechter function with slope -2 and a truncation mass at 1.00 +/- 0.12 x 10(5) M-circle dot . Through Monte Carlo simulations, we confirm this result and link the shape of the luminosity function to the presence of a truncation in the mass function. A mass limited age function analysis, between 10 and 200 Myr, suggests that the cluster population is undergoing only moderate disruption. We observe little variation in the shape of the mass function at masses above 1 x 10(4) M-circle dot over this age range. The fraction of star formation happening in the form of bound clusters in M51 is similar to 20 per cent in the age range 10-100 Myr and little variation is observed over the whole range from 1 to 200 Myr.
Using the water eliminated mechanism, reactions of 4-pyridinecarboxylic acid hydrazide and salicylaldehyde, benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, and formaldehyde afforded the corresponding ...N(4)(E)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl) methylidene (NHPM), N(4)-(E)-2-phenylethylidene (NPI), N(4)(E,2E)-3-phenyl-2-propenylidene (NPPI), and N(4)(E) ethylidene (NEI) isonicotinohydrazide, in high yields, after several minutes, as reported. These new compounds have shown antitumor activity against two kinds of cancer cells, which are K562 (human chronic myeloid leukemia) and Jurkat (human T lymphocyte carcinoma).

An improved survival rate is a consequence of successful reperfusion of the infarct-related artery. This double-blind, randomized trial investigated the potential of Hirulog, a direct thrombin ...inhibitor, to improve the early patency rates obtained with streptokinase and aspirin.
Angiographic patency of the culprit coronary artery lesion was assessed 90 and 120 minutes after the initiation of streptokinase and aspirin and again after 4 +/- 2 days in 68 patients with acute myocardial infarction. Patients were randomized to Hirulog 0.5 mg/kg per hour for 12 hours followed by 0.1 mg/kg per hour (low dose), Hirulog 1.0 mg/kg per hour for 12 hours followed by placebo (high dose), or to heparin 5000 U bolus followed by 1000 U/h titrated to an activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) 2 to 2.5 times control after 12 hours. At 90 minutes, TIMI flow grade 2 or 3 was observed in 96% of patients treated with the low dose of Hirulog, in 79% with the high dose, and in 46% with heparin (P = .006) and TIMI flow grade 3 was observed in 85%, 61%, and 31% of patients, respectively (P = .008). At 120 minutes, these figures were 100%, 82%, and 62% for TIMI flow grades 2 and 3 (P = .046) and 92%, 68%, and 46% for TIMI flow grade 3 (P = .014). At 90 minutes, the relative risk for restoring TIMI flow grade 3 was 2.77 with Hirulog 0.5 mg/kg per hour compared with heparin (95% confidence limits, 1.21 to 6.35; P < .001) and 1.4 compared with Hirulog 1.0 mg/kg per minute (95% confidence limits, 1.00 to 1.51; P = .04). Patients who received a placebo infusion after 12 hours experienced more clinical events and reocclusion during the following 4 days than patients in the other two groups.
Hirulog yields higher early patency rates in the culprit coronary artery than heparin when used as adjunctive therapy to streptokinase and aspirin in the early phase of acute myocardial infarction. High doses are not required and may be less effective than lower doses, which suggests that too much thrombin inhibition may be harmful.
The Legacy ExtraGalactic UV Survey (LEGUS) is a multiwavelength Cycle 21 Treasury program on the Hubble Space Telescope. It studied 50 nearby star-forming galaxies in 5 bands from the near-UV to the ...I-band, combining new Wide Field Camera 3 observations with archival Advanced Camera for Surveys data. LEGUS was designed to investigate how star formation occurs and develops on both small and large scales, and how it relates to the galactic environments. In this paper we present the photometric catalogs for all the apparently single stars identified in the 50 LEGUS galaxies. Photometric catalogs and mosaicked images for all filters are available for download. We present optical and near-UV color-magnitude diagrams for all the galaxies. For each galaxy we derived the distance from the tip of the red giant branch. We then used the NUV color-magnitude diagrams to identify stars more massive than 14 Me, and compared their number with the number of massive stars expected from the GALEX FUV luminosity. Our analysis shows that the fraction of massive stars forming in star clusters and stellar associations is about constant with the star formation rate. This lack of a relation suggests that the timescale for evaporation of unbound structures is comparable or longer than 10 Myr. At low star formation rates this translates to an excess of mass in clustered environments as compared to model predictions of cluster evolution, suggesting that a significant fraction of stars form in unbound systems.
Particulate separation has many applications in medicine, biology and industry. In this research, the separation of polystyrene particles with a diameter of 10, 20 and 30 μm in the fluid flow of a ...microchannel is investigated. The microchannel consists of a spiral region and a straight region under the influence of acoustic waves. In the spiral region, the particles under hydrodynamic effects undergo the initial separation; then the particles enter the straight region of the microchannel, and the final separation of the particles is done by the force generated and exerted through the acoustic waves. The effects of acoustic frequency and the number of spiral region loops on separation are investigated. The results show that for measured dimensions and parameters, at 1 MHz acoustic wave, when the number of loops is 2 for the spiral region, the particles at the end of the path are in a suitable position for separation. In addition, the results show that the separation of particles with this hybrid system is better than that done by the simple methods, and the separation rate can be as high as 100%
Static formation temperature should be determined as accurately as possible for a number of reasons; especially it is an essential parameter in petroleum system modeling. In this study, the commonly ...used empirical methods for log derived temperature correction are reviewed. After that, new correlation was developed by adapting previously presented methods to calibrate log recorded temperature by using true formation temperature from reservoir tests like DST and MDT in Persian Gulf basin. A correction factor formula was proposed by considering both depth and TSC directly. The adapted method provides an accurate calibration of log recorded temperature.
In addition, a sensitivity analysis was carried out to reveal the effect of log recorded temperature calibration on 1D petroleum system modeling.
•Reviewing the commonly used methods for log derived temperature correction.•Different temperature calibration methods were compared.•New proposed approach led into the most accurate calibration of BHT.•The effect of temperature correction on 1D basin modeling was investigated.
