Lintner’s (1956) partial adjustment model identifies the company’s long-term dividend policy by setting a dividend target payout ratio and the speed of adjustment. And although the model has ...undergone various modifications and methods of estimation over more than 60 years, it is still a good tool for analyzing dividend decisions made by companies. The aim of the article is to show the usefulness of the Lintner model for analyzing changes in the company’s dividend policy during the pandemic turmoil. For the illustration, Hydrotor SA was chosen, which, the longest time at the Warsaw Stock Exchange, continuously pays dividends. The calculations showed that the situation in 2020 resulted in a revision of the company’s long-term dividend strategy, which resulted in a lowering of the dividend target payout ratio and a greater attention to the current situation (current net profits)—an increase in the speed of adjustment.
Osteoarthritis (OA) ranks among the most prevalent inflammatory diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system and is a leading cause of disability globally, impacting approximately 250 million ...individuals. This study aimed to assess the relationship between the severity of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and body composition in postmenopausal women using bioimpedance analysis (BIA). The study included 58 postmenopausal females who were candidates for total knee arthroplasty. The control group consisted of 25 postmenopausal individuals with no degenerative knee joint changes. The anthropometric analysis encompassed the body mass index (BMI), mid-arm and mid-thigh circumferences (MAC and MTC), and triceps skinfold thickness (TSF). Functional performance was evaluated using the 30 s sit-to-stand test. During the BIA test, electrical parameters such as membrane potential, electrical resistance, capacitive reactance, impedance, and phase angle were measured. Additionally, body composition parameters, including Total Body Water (TBW), Extracellular Water (ECW), Intracellular Water (ICW), Body Cellular Mass (BCM), Extracellular Mass (ECM), Fat-Free Mass (FFM), and Fat Mass (FM), were examined. The study did not find any statistically significant differences in the electrical parameters between the control (0–1 grade on the K–L scale) and study groups (3–4 grade on the K–L scale). However, statistically significant differences were observed in BMI, fat mass (FM), arm circumference, triceps skinfold thickness, and sit-to-stand test results between the analyzed groups. In conclusion, the association between overweight and obesity with KOA in postmenopausal women appears to be primarily related to the level of adipose tissue and its metabolic activity.
The article presents a new and measurement-verified approach in the modeling of a voltage regulator, which is used in the power industry and applied for the purpose of regulation of generating units. ...The voltage regulator extended model, proposed in this paper, involves nonlinearities and the application of fractional calculus. The addition of these features has not only significantly increased the number of parameters determining the model response, it has also established a challenge of developing a solver capable of computing the resulting complex system of fractional differential–algebraic equations (FDAE). The mathematical formulation of a single simulation of a transient process for the model has been described. The application of the Oustaloup Recursive Approximation (ORA) of the fractional derivative has been considered in order to increase the speed of the model evaluation. Generalized equations leading to an approximating system of Differential–Algebraic Equations (DAE) have been presented in detail. In order to obtain the parameters for the fractional nonlinear model, a parameter estimation procedure has been applied, which consists of implementations of several algorithms that are executed sequentially. The usefulness and drawbacks of the application of the ORA has also been discussed.

Theta oscillations generated in hippocampal (HPC) and cortical neuronal networks are involved in various aspects of brain function, including sensorimotor integration, movement planning, memory ...formation and attention. Disruptions of theta rhythms are present in individuals with brain disorders, including epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. Theta rhythm generation involves a specific interplay between cellular (ion channel) and network (synaptic) mechanisms. HCN channels are theta modulators, and several medications are known to enhance their activity. We investigated how different doses of lamotrigine (LTG), an HCN channel modulator, and antiepileptic and neuroprotective agent, would affect HPC theta rhythms in acute HPC slices (in vitro) and anaesthetized rats (in vivo). Whole-cell patch clamp recordings revealed that LTG decreased GABA
-fast transmission in CA3 cells, in vitro. In addition, LTG directly depressed CA3 and CA1 pyramidal neuron excitability. These effects were partially blocked by ZD 7288, a selective HCN blocker, and are consistent with decreased excitability associated with antiepileptic actions. Lamotrigine depressed HPC theta oscillations in vitro, also consistent with its neuronal depressant effects. In contrast, it exerted an opposite, enhancing effect, on theta recorded in vivo. The contradictory in vivo and in vitro results indicate that LTG increases ascending theta activating medial septum/entorhinal synaptic inputs that over-power the depressant effects seen in HPC neurons. These results provide new insights into LTG actions and indicate an opportunity to develop more precise therapeutics for the treatment of dementias, memory disorders and epilepsy.
This article presents the results of an experimental verification of three-phase Dy transformer dynamics under no-load conditions. This study is motivated by previous ferroresonance analyses where ...the occurrence of inrush currents has been observed. The measurements covered all available electrical quantities in a transient state (12 measured and 3 additionally computed waveforms) during the device’s start-up under no-load conditions, as well as in a long-term steady state. A detailed analytical analysis is carried out for the obtained comprehensive set of measurement results. As a result of the conducted research, the mathematical model of the pre-magnetized three-phase Dy transformer is modified. Particular attention is paid to the issue of residual magnetism of the transformer core and its consideration in further research. The original strategy for energizing a three-column three-phase Dy transformer with a suitable pre-magnetization of its columns and original control switching system with a given/set value of the initial phase in the supply voltage is put to the test. The evolution of the induced inrush phenomenon up to the quasi-steady state under given (forced) conditions is documented (currents, voltages and the dynamics of changes taking place in the core (hysteresis loops)). This article represents a continuation of ongoing work on the study of transient states (dynamics of transformer inrush currents). At present, the Dy three-phase transformer is analyzed because of the requirements of industrial operators.
Only some of the nutrients consumed with food are able to be absorbed from the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and enter the systemic circulation (blood). Because some elements are essential minerals for ...humans, their beneficial effect on the body depends significantly on their bioavailable amount (the fraction that can be absorbed and used by the organism). The term bioavailability, which is very often used to describe the part of nutrients that is able to be absorbed, is influenced by various factors of exogenous and endogenous origin. The main purpose of the study was to assess the relative bioavailability of Cr from selected dietary supplements in the presence of various types of diets, which significantly influence the level of bioavailability. The research was performed using a previously developed and optimized two-stage in vitro digestion model using cellulose dialysis tubes of food rations with the addition of pharmaceutical products. Cr was determined using the ICP-OES and GF-AAS methods, depending on its concentration in particular fractions. The determined relative bioavailability ranged between 2.97 and 3.70%. The results of the study revealed that the type of diet, the chemical form of the molecule, and the pharmaceutical form of preparations have a significant influence on the bioavailability of Cr.
Solar-powered adsorption chillers are a particularly interesting alternative to energy-intensive conventional refrigeration systems. Integration of the adsorption chiller with solar collectors is a ...very promising concept since the increase in solar radiation coincides with the increased demand for cooling. Such a solution is very economical and environmentally friendly. It also fits in with current trends related to energy policy and sustainable development. The article presents the results of tests conducted for a two-bed adsorption chiller integrated with solar collectors. The tests were performed on selected days of the summer period (July and August) at the KEZO Research Centre PAS in Jablonna (Poland). Based on the results obtained, the performance parameters of the adsorption chiller were determined, and the problems associated with the integration of all components of the system were identified and discussed. The values of the determined Coefficient of Performance (COP) and cooling capacity for the tested adsorption chiller are, depending on the day on which the tests were conducted, from 0.531 to 0.692 and from 5.16 kW to 8.71 kW, respectively. Analysis of the test results made it possible to formulate conclusions related to the design of integrated systems of adsorption chillers with solar collectors.

Our earlier study demonstrated, that antidepressant-like and also cognitive action of MTEP, a metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 5 (mGluR5) antagonist, was influenced by cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibition in mice. We detected a decrease in the mGluR7 protein level in the hippocampus (HC) of mice co-treated chronically with MTEP and NS398 (a COX-2 inhibitor). We found both antidepressant-like effects and cognitive to be associated with mGlu7 receptor-mediated mechanisms.

receptors, which are involved in the modulation of the firing of local inhibitory interneurons responsible for regulating the activity of DRN projection cells.
Objectives
Our study aimed to investigate the effect of repeated corticosterone injections on the modulation of the inhibitory transmission within the DRN by 5-HT
7
receptors and whether it could be reversed by treatment with a 5-HT
7
receptor antagonist.
Methods
Male Wistar rats received corticosterone injections repeated twice daily for 14 days. Spontaneous inhibitory postsynaptic currents (sIPSCs) were then recorded from DRN projection cells in ex vivo slice preparations obtained 24 h after the last injection.
Results
Repeated corticosterone administration resulted in decreased frequency, but not amplitude, of sIPSCs in DRN projection cells. There were no changes in the excitability of these cells; however, corticosterone treatment suppressed the 5-HT
7
receptor-mediated increase in sIPSC frequency. Administration of the 5-HT
7
receptor antagonist SB 269970 for 7 days beginning on the eighth day of corticosterone treatment reversed the detrimental effects of corticosterone on 5-HT
7
receptor reactivity and GABAergic transmission in the DRN.
Conclusions
Elevated corticosterone level reduces DRN 5HT
7
receptor reactivity and decreases GABAergic transmission within the DRN, which can be reversed by the 5-HT

receptor antagonist SB 269970.
Bioavailability refers to a fraction of a substance that is potentially absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and enters the systemic circulation (blood). This term is related to various ...substances, including minerals, that are present in a complex matrix of food which is consumed every day as natural products and pharmaceutical preparations, e.g., dietary supplements. The purpose of the study was to assess the bioavailability of Se from selected dietary supplements, with the simultaneous assessment of the effect the diet type (standard, basic and high-residue diets) has on relative bioavailability. The research included a two-stage in vitro model of digestion using cellulose dialysis tubes of the food rations with the addition of dietary supplements. Se was determined using the ICP-OES method. The bioavailability of Se from dietary supplements, in the presence of food matrix, was determined to be within the range of 19.31-66.10%. Sodium selenate was characterized by the highest value of this parameter, followed by organic forms and sodium selenite. The basic diet, characterized by moderate protein and high carbohydrate and fiber contents, positively influenced the bioavailability of Se. The bioavailability of Se was also influenced by the pharmaceutical form of the product-the highest was for tablets, followed by capsules and coated tablets.
