The year 2020 marked the death of Birgit Stolt, a scholar whose contributions to Luther studies will endure far into the future. Professor Stolt brought to the field over the last fifty years is ...quite remarkable, especially in that she was an Auslandsgermanistin, a specialist in the German language at a Swedish university and possessed no formal theological training. Still her scholarship broke fresh ground and opened new vistas for future scholarly exploration in Luther studies. Especially notable is her dedication to helping us appreciate the rich complexity of Luther's language and better understand the role of the emotions in his theology. It would be of great benefit to Luther studies in the English-speaking world if more of Professor Stolt's scholarly work would be translated, beginning with Martin Luthers Rhetorik des Herzens, the best and most comprehensive introduction to her thought.

This is the first complete English translation of the poetic works of Sedulius, a Christian Latin poet of late antiquity whose biblical epic and hymns were enormously popular during the Middle Ages ...and the early modern period. The introduction places the poet and his works into his historical and literary contexts, followed by the Latin text of Sedulius’s poetic works with English translation on facing pages. Notes on linguistic and historical matters are designed to help the reader with little or no Latin and only some familiarity with Sedulius’s classical and biblical sources. Appendices supply texts and translations of incidental related materials, including Sedulius’s dedicatory letters; biographical notices, subscriptions, and laudatory poems associated with Sedulius’s works in the manuscript tradition; and representative excerpts from Sedulius’s own prose paraphrase of the Paschale Carmen. Abstract
This article examines Ambrose's use of repetitio in his morning hymn Aeterne rerum conditor. Thanks in part to a long tradition of criticism that has focused primarily on the unadorned ...'simplicity' of the Ambrosian hymn, relatively little attention has been paid to the poet's artful use of rhetorical figures. Aeterne rerum conditor features a rooster whose repetitive cry is replicated in the third and fourth stanzas of the hymn in a striking figure that, upon a close reading, is found to be integrally connected with the poem's meaning and message.
