We sought to evaluate the adherence of Vietnamese adults to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) preventive measures, and gain insight into the effects of the epidemic on the daily lives of Vietnamese ...people. An online questionnaire was administered from March 31 to April 6, 2020. The questionnaire assessed personal preventive behavior (such as physical distancing, wearing a face mask, cough etiquette, regular handwashing and using an alcohol hand sanitizer, body temperature check, and disinfecting mobile phones) and community preventive behavior (such as avoiding meetings, large gatherings, going to the market, avoiding travel in a vehicle/bus with more than 10 persons, and not traveling outside of the local area during the lockdown). A total adherence score was calculated by summing the scores of the 9 personal and the 11 community prevention questions. In total, 2175 respondents completed the questionnaire; mean age: 31.4 ± 10.7; (range: 18-69); 66.9% were women; 54.2% were health professionals and 22.8% were medical students. The mean adherence scores for personal and community preventive measures were 7.23 ± 1.63 (range 1-9) and 9.57 ± 1.12 (range 1-11), respectively. Perceived adaptation of the community to lockdown (Beta (β) = 2.64, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) 1.25-4.03), fears/worries concerning one's health (β = 2.87, 95% CI 0.04-5.70), residing in large cities (β = 19.40, 95% CI 13.78-25.03), access to official COVID-19 information sources (β = 16.45, 95% CI 6.82-26.08), and working in healthcare/medical students (β = 22.53, 95% CI 16.00-29.07) were associated with a higher adherence score to anti-COVID instructions. In conclusion, this study confirmed a high degree of adherence to personal and community preventive behavior among Vietnamese people. Our findings are consistent with the epidemiology of COVID-19 in Vietnam, where there have been few infections and no recorded deaths up to the first week of July 2020.
Antimicrobial-resistant infections are a major global health issue. Ease of antimicrobial access in developing countries is proposed to be a key driver of the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) epidemic ...despite a lack of community antimicrobial usage data.
Using a mixed-methods approach (geospatial mapping, simulated clients, healthcare utilization, longitudinal cohort) we assessed antimicrobial access in the community and quantified antimicrobial usage for childhood diarrhoea in an urban Vietnamese setting.
The study area had a pharmacy density of 15.7 pharmacies/km2 (a pharmacy for every 1316 people). Using a simulated client method at pharmacies within the area, we found that 8% (3/37) and 22% (8/37) of outlets sold antimicrobials for paediatric watery and mucoid diarrhoea, respectively. However, despite ease of pharmacy access, the majority of caregivers would choose to take their child to a healthcare facility, with 81% (319/396) and 88% (347/396) of responders selecting a specialized hospital as one of their top three preferences when seeking treatment for watery and mucoid diarrhoea, respectively. We calculated that at least 19% (2688/14 427) of diarrhoea episodes in those aged 1 to <5 years would receive an antimicrobial annually; however, antimicrobial usage was almost 10 times greater in hospitals than in the community.
Our data question the impact of community antimicrobial usage on AMR and highlight the need for better education and guidelines for all professionals with the authority to prescribe antimicrobials.
An online cross-sectional survey using a "snowball" sampling method was carried out to assess the adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures among dental care workers (DCWs) during the pandemic. Six ...questions concerning the COVID-19 preventive guidelines issued by the Vietnam Ministry of Health were used to evaluate DCWs' adherence to preventive measures at dental care clinics. The quality of life of DCWs was assessed using the WHO-5 questionnaire and was defined as low if the total score was less than 13 points. Factors relating to adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures of DCWs were determined by multivariate linear regression analysis. In total, 514 DCWs completed the questionnaire. A total of 37% DCWs rated their quality of life as low. Regression analysis suggested that older age, a better quality of life, living in an urban area, and training on COVID-19 prevention were associated with better adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures, while being a dentist and lack of personal protective equipment was associated with less adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures. The pandemic had a significant negative impact on the physical and mental health of DCWs. Therefore, specific national guidelines for the prevention and control of the spread of COVID-19 in dental facilities should be issued.
From the fruit of Pandanus tectorius Parkinson ex Du Roi, one new dihydrofurocoumarin, named pandanusin A (1) and 15 known compounds, including one furanocoumarin (2), two coumarins (3, 4), four ...lignans (5-8), one neolignan (9), two flavonoids (10, 11), three phenolics (12-14), one monoglyceride (15) and one monosaccharide (16) were isolated by various chromatography methods. Among them, compounds (3-5) were obtained from the Pandanus genus for the first time and compounds (9-14, 16) were reported from this species for the first time. Their structures were elucidated by HR-ESI-MS, NMR 1D and 2D experiments and comparison with previous reported data. The α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of all compounds was measured. The isolated compounds (1-12, 14) showed better α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC

Bao TQ, Thi NV, Doanh LS, Duan PV, Khang LN, Cuong NT, Hieu BT, Mai DTT, Tuyen DV. 2022. The method of forest change detection using Sentinel-2 optical satellite imagery and Sentinel-1 radar imagery: ...A case study in Dak Nong Province, Vietnam. Biodiversitas 23: 4800-4809. This study presents the findings of forest change detection in Dak Nong Province, Vietnam by combining the NDVI of Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and the backscatter (BKS) values of VH and VV polarizations from the first quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021 and using the combination model of BKS and NDVI (CMB) to determine the NDVI and Backscatter Change Index (NBCI) between the two periods, which were processed and analyzed in Google Earth Engine. The verification results on 270 samples for all 3 indices show that the results of forest loss detection using NBCI index, NDVI index, and BKS index reach 93.3%, 83.3% and 73.3%, respectively; the results of identifying the areas with no forest change using NBCI index, NDVI index, and BKS index achieve 97.8%, 92.2% and 83.3%, respectively; the results of forest increase detection using NBCI index, NDVI index, and BKS index reach 90.0%, 85.6% and 68.9%, respectively. The NBCI index for Dak Nong Province indicated that during the study period, the the province lost 1,198.9 hectares forest area, whereas it gained 871.3 hectares of the same.

•A comprehensive review on numerical approaches of wind turbine blade is done.•The computational approach to blade analysis using CFD is reviewed.•Various on-field wind turbine ...testing methodologies are discussed.•The reliability of numerical and on-field studies is reviewed.
With the increased need for alternative energy sources, wind energy has become a hotly debated topic. Improving the performance of a wind turbine has been a significant focus of study, with several new technologies and designs developed. The aerodynamic performance and structural integrity of a wind turbine are the major variables that demonstrate the turbine's utility. The performance metrics, such as the Power Coefficient and Tip Speed Ratio, indicate the amount of mechanical power that the turbine can create. These parameters are amenable to numerical, computational, and practical estimation. The study presents numerical approaches for estimating the aforementioned parameters, such as the Blade Element Momentum Theory, Actuator Disc Approach, and Single-stream Tube Theory. Similarly, the fundamentals of computational fluid mechanics (CFD) have been covered under computational techniques. The turbine's structural integrity can be investigated using Finite Element Structural Analysis or a Fluid Structural Interaction Study. Wind tunnel testing and other practical approaches have also been considered. Each approach produces different findings, and the accuracy of the numerical and computational methods may be evaluated by comparing their output to the experimental output.
Postpartum depression (PPD) among women is a common mental health concern. It occurs at a time of major life change, coupled with the increased responsibilities associated with the care of a newborn ...infant. In Vietnam, the prevalence of depressive symptoms after giving birth has not been fully investigated. Research in the Northern provinces, in Ho Chi Minh City, and in Hue suggests postnatal depressive symptoms among women are common. This research aims to (1) estimate the prevalence of PPD symptoms among married women in one Vietnam city (Danang) and (2) identify the social and personal factors associated with postpartum depressive symptoms.
This cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2013 to August 2014 in 10 wards of Hai Chau District, Danang. A total of 600 mothers who gave birth 4 weeks to 6 months prior to being interviewed were recruited. Interviews were conducted using structured questionnaires, which included several dimensions: demographics, family living arrangements, expectations of pregnancy, expectations of infant gender, the woman's relationship with her husband, exercise after birth, infant health, and anxiety about matters other than the birth. The Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to examine PPD symptoms, with a cutoff point of 12/13.
EPDS scores indicated the prevalence of PPD symptoms was 19.3% (95% CI: 16.16-22.50). Among women with PPD symptoms, 37.9% had suicidal thoughts in the previous seven days. Multivariate logistic regression indicated that the following key factors were significantly associated with PPD symptoms: Not being able to rely on their husband for help, having a husband who does not spend time to discuss problems, having anxiety about matters other than the birth, not exercising after giving birth, and having an ill baby.
These findings should be interpreted in relation to other recent research in Vietnam. A consistent pattern of prevalence estimates and associated social factors is emerging that has implications for the postpartum care of mothers.
Despite its well-known effectiveness in vertebral compression fractures (VCFs), kyphoplasty could also bring the risk of developing subsequent VCFs post-augmentation, especially at adjacent ...vertebrae, which has been rarely reported in Asian countries.
In this cross-sectional study, we performed cement augmentation on 69 vertebrae in 65 patients at the Spine Surgery Department, Viet Duc University Hospital, from June 2019 to November 2020. Cement augmentation was performed on 69 vertebrae in 65 patients. They then were followed and assessed for subsequent VCFs every 3, 6, 9 months after surgery.
69 vertebrae in 65 patients were treated by kyphoplasty, 2 patients had 2 vertebrae treated and only one patient had 3 vertebrae injected. The average age recorded was 72 ± 8 years old. The average amount of cement injected was 5.4 ± 1.4 ml per vertebrae. At the end of the study, 63 patients did not develop subsequent VCFs. Two patients (3.07%) had new VCFs post-augmentation within the first two-month period post-injection. Age, gender, history of steroid injection and number of vertebrae treated with kyphoplasty showed no significant difference between the two groups.
Kyphoplasty is an effective pain-reliving treatment for patients with osteoporotic VCFs and would pose no threats to subsequent VCFs. For patients developing abnormal acute pain within the period of two months, further examinations and MRI scan should be performed to detect subsequent VCFs in time.
•Kyphoplasty could also bring the risk of developing subsequent VCFs post-augmentation.•Only few patients had new VCFs post-augmentation within two-month post-injection.•Age, gender, history of steroid injection showed no significant impacts.
Chylothorax is a rare condition after blunt trauma. We present a 32-year-olds man with a thoracic duct injury resulting in the right chylothorax after a motor vehicle collision. After the failure of ...conservative management, the patient underwent lymphangiography and successfully embolized the thoracic duct. This report emphasizes the importance of identifying thoracic duct injury in setting blunt trauma and management of this injury.
