Malyugin et al study a position of the posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) with a total size selection using ultrasound bio-microscopy (UBM) and a new algorithm based on anterior segment ...optical coherence tomography (AS OCT) in patients with high myopia. PIOL sizing based on the new algorithm of sulcus ciliaris diameter assessment using AS-OCT allows to achieve a safe PIOL vault and demonstrates its clinical effectiveness.
Malyugin et al examine the effectiveness of a new algorithm in measurement of sulcus ciliaris diameter by the method of anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Results show that the ...new AS-OCT algorithm can be effectively used to assess sulcus ciliaris diameter with a high level of precision and repeatability. Application of this algorithm in posterior chamber phakic IOL sizing will be discussed in the next report.
To study an acoustic morphology of drainage system structures after non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) for glaucoma by method of ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM). The UBM was performed in 54 eyes ...(49 patients) with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) using the UBM-840 Humphry device (USA) preoperatively and in follow-up: 1, 3, 6 months after NPDS taking into account the initial IOP. The main group included 22 patients (22 eyes) with a high initial intraocular pressure (IOP) - 33.16±0.24 mmHg. The comparative group consisted of 27 patients (32 eyes) with a medicinal compensated IOP 20.14±0.2 mmHg. There were studied following UBM parameters: filtering bleb (FB), scleral flap (SF), intrascieral cavity (ISC); trabecular descemet's membrane (TDM). The acoustic density was evaluated in the rates to the acoustic density of sclera. Specific changes in ocular structures of the drainage system formed by the non-penetrated surgery have been detected in cases of high IOP. These changes included symptoms of proliferative processes such as the FB and ISC diminishing, the appearance of the heterogeneous inclusions on all structures of the drainage system, the increase of TDM thickness and acoustic density. Early symptoms of proliferative processes took place already 1 month after the operation and were more pronounced at 6 months of follow-up. The proliferative changes of structures were revealed in a normal ophthalmotonus and preceded postoperative hypertension in a later post-operative follow-up. High initial IOP before the glaucoma operations of non-penetrating type is an activator of proliferative processes in the ocular structures of the drainage system created by the surgery. Acoustic features of proliferative changes in drainage system can be diagnosed before an appearance of postoperative hypertension. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Moroz et al investigate capabilities of Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM) for selecting volume of reconstruction of anterior eye segment during keratoprosthetics in patients with vascular leukoma of the ...degrees 4-5. They examined fifty-four patients with vascularized burn leukoma of the degrees 4-5. All patients underwent different functional, electrophysiological and ultrasound diagnostic procedures including the UBM before and after surgery, especially in case of complications. The UBM was performed in a standard manner using the UBM-840 system. Results revealed UBM capabilities to assess topography characteristics of anterior eye segment in patients with the 4th-5th degree leukomas. These characteristics included scarring flattening of cornea, non-uniform increase of thickness of leukoma, and presence of pronounced peripheral iridocorneal adhesions with reduced central depth of anterior chamber. The UBM allows to foresee a postoperative course for patients with vascularized burn leukoma of the 4th-5th degrees and to perform a dynamic monitoring of patient data after surgery.
Fedorova et al show a possibility of intraocular correction of high ametropia with astigmatism using toric multifocal LentisMPlus IOLs. The LentisMplus IOL with a toric component made custom taking ...into account individual features of eyes allow to achieve clinical and functional results declared by the manufacturer of these lenses for the standard diopter range.
The problems of machinability of the WolKar new nanostructural hard alloy have been studied by analyzing a specific energy intensity of the diamond-spark grinding. It has been shown that despite the ...somewhat higher energy intensity of grinding the WolKar alloy as compared with grinding the WC-6Co alloy, the total technological net cost of using the WolKar alloy is essentially lower as tools sharpened by it exhibit a higher wear resistance.
To evaluate results in clinical application of reverse-M IOL in eyes with high myopia and cataract. Reverse-M IOL was implanted in 30 eyes with high myopia and cataract. The initial myopia varied ...within the range from 16.0 to 22.5D. The average patients age was 65 years. and the average axial length of the eyes was 31 mm. There was determined a destruction of vitreous body from 2 to 3 degree as well as a total posterior vitreous detachment with a average height of 6.5 mm. Visual acuity (VA) was not more than 0.2 with maximal spectacle correction. Average IOP was l8 mmHg. The follow-up was 18 months. Reverse-M IOL had a stable correct central position in all eyes. Uncorrected VA (UCVA) and with a low myopic correction was from 0.01 to 0.6 depending on a manifestation of vitreous destruction and myopic changes in fundus. Refractive result was stable during the whole follow-up. The average endothelial cell loss was not more than 3%. According to UBM data reverse-M IOL was located in capsular bag with a tight contact with the posterior capsule in all eyes. 1. Reverse-M IOL could be implanted through a 2.2 mm incision. 2. Reverse-M IOL ensures a tight contact of optics with the posterior capsule of the removed lens. 3. Reverse-M IOL provides predictable stable refractive results within the long-term follow-up.
