The objectives, instrumentation, methods and data leading up to launch of the NASA Living With a Star (LWS) Space Environment Testbed (SET) payload onboard the Air Force Research Laboratory ...Demonstration and Science Experiments (DSX) spacecraft are described. The experiments characterize the space radiation environment and how it affects hardware performance. The payload consists of a compact space weather instrument and a carrier containing four board experiments.
The Switched Dose Rate technique is investigated when devices do not exhibit ELDRS. Experimental data and modeling results are presented and discussed in terms of hardness assurance. It is shown, for ...devices that do not show ELDRS, that a time is required before the switched devices reach the LDR curve. As a solution, it is proposed to apply an annealing between the HDR and the LDR irradiation.
The synergistic effect between Total Ionizing Dose (TID) and Analog Single Event Transient (ASET) in LM124 operational amplifiers (opamps) from three different manufacturers is investigated. This ...effect is clearly identified on only two manufacturers by three, highlighting manufacturer dependent. In fact, significant variations were observed on both the TID sensitivity and the ASET response of LM124 devices from different manufacturers. Hypotheses are made on the cause of the differences observed. A previously developed ASET simulation tool is used to model the transient response. The effects of TID on devices are taken into account in the model by injecting the variations of key electrical parameters obtained during Co 60 irradiation. An excellent agreement is observed between the experimental responses and the model outputs, independently of the TID level, the bias configuration and the manufacturer of the device.

In-flight feedback data are collected, such as displacement damage doses, ionizing doses, and cumulated Single Event upset (SEU) on board various space vehicles and are compared to predictions ...performed with: proton measurements performed with spectrometers data on board the same spacecraft if any and protons spectrum predicted by the legacy AP8min model and the AP9 and Onera Proton Altitude Low models. When an accurate representation of the 3-D spacecraft shielding as well as appropriate ground calibrations are considered in the calculations, such comparisons provide powerful metrics to investigate engineering model accuracy. To describe >30 MeV trapped protons fluxes, the AP8 min model is found to provide closer predictions to observations than AP9 V1.30.001 (mean and perturbed mean).
A single event latchup (SEL) experiment based on commercial static random access memory (SRAM) memories has recently been proposed in the framework of the European Organization for Nuclear Research ...(CERN) Latchup Experiment and Student Satellite nanosatellite low Earth orbit (LEO) space mission. SEL characterization of three commercial SRAM memories has been carried out at the Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) facility, using monoenergetic focused proton beams and different acquisition setups. The best target candidate was selected and a circuit for SEL detection has been proposed and tested at CERN, in the CERN High Energy AcceleRator Mixed-field facility (CHARM). Experimental results were carried out at test locations representative of the LEO environment, thus providing a full characterization of the SRAM cross sections, together with the analysis of the single-event effect and total ionizing dose of the latchup detection circuit in relation to the particle spectra expected during mission. The setups used for SEL monitoring are described, and details of the proposed circuit components and topology are presented. Experimental results obtained both at PSI and at CHARM facilities are discussed.
Shapes of ATREEs (Analog Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics) in a bipolar integrated circuit change with exposure to Total Ionizing Dose (TID) radiation. The impact of TID on ATREEs is ...investigated in the LM124 operational amplifier (opamp) from three different manufacturers. Significant variations are observed on the ATREE responsesfrom different manufacturers. The ATREEs are produced by pulsed X-ray experiments. ASET laser mappings are performed to highlight the sensitive bipolar transistors, explaining the ATREE phenomena variations from one manufacturer to another one. ATREE modeling results are presented using a previously developed simulation tool. A good agreement is observed between experimental ATREE responses and model outputs whatever the TID level, the prompt dose level, the amplifier configuration and the device manufacturer.
Total dose effect remains one challenging issue for electronics systems intended to space applications. For high total dose missions, like Jupiter missions, or for scientific instruments for which ...functionality and precision must be guaranteed, dose effect is one of the main drawbacks. So, new solutions must be found in order to ensure the reliability of the mission. In this paper, an analysis of a thermal annealing approach is done. This approach consists of applying isothermal annealing cycles to a device such that its electrical characteristics can be regenerated after being degraded by total ionizing dose. The analysis is based on experimental results obtained on Power MOSFET and CMOS APS imager. The impact of electric field during annealing is also investigated. It is shown that thermal annealing can be applied to electronic devices in order to extend their lifetime.
The influence of external circuit designs on ASET shapes in a high speed current feedback amplifier (CFA) (AD844) is investigated by means of the pulsed laser single event effect (PLSEE) simulation ...technique. Changes of the feedback resistors modify circuit's electrical parameters such as closed-loop gain and bandwidth, affecting amplifier stability and so ASET shapes. Qualitative explanations based on general electronic rules and feedback theories enable the understanding of a CFA operation establishing a correlation between the evolution of external feedback resistor values and ASET parameters. TID effects on the ASET sensitivity in AD844 CFA are also investigated in this work highlighting different behaviors according to the impacted bipolar transistor in the integrated circuit.

Pulsed X-ray experiments have highlighted ATREE sensitivity on devices significantly more important following exposure to fission neutrons than for unirradiated devices. A previously developed simulation tool is used to model ATREE responses taking into account the electrical parameters degradation due to displacement damage phenomenon. A good agreement is observed between model outputs and experimental ATREE results.
Displacement damage doses measured by the ICARE-NG/OSL sensor on board the French JASON2 spacecraft from CNES, the French space agency, are compared to predictions performed with (1) proton ...measurements performed with the spectrometers on board the same spacecraft/instrument and (2) protons spectrum predicted by the legacy AP8 min model and the future AP9 perturbed model.
