ABSTRACT
Wide-field imaging surveys such as the Dark Energy Survey (DES) rely on coarse measurements of spectral energy distributions in a few filters to estimate the redshift distribution of source ...galaxies. In this regime, sample variance, shot noise, and selection effects limit the attainable accuracy of redshift calibration and thus of cosmological constraints. We present a new method to combine wide-field, few-filter measurements with catalogues from deep fields with additional filters and sufficiently low photometric noise to break degeneracies in photometric redshifts. The multiband deep field is used as an intermediary between wide-field observations and accurate redshifts, greatly reducing sample variance, shot noise, and selection effects. Our implementation of the method uses self-organizing maps to group galaxies into phenotypes based on their observed fluxes, and is tested using a mock DES catalogue created from N-body simulations. It yields a typical uncertainty on the mean redshift in each of five tomographic bins for an idealized simulation of the DES Year 3 weak-lensing tomographic analysis of σΔz = 0.007, which is a 60 per cent improvement compared to the Year 1 analysis. Although the implementation of the method is tailored to DES, its formalism can be applied to other large photometric surveys with a similar observing strategy.
Patients with relapsed small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) have few treatment options and dismal survival. Phase I/II data show activity of nivolumab in previously treated SCLC.
CheckMate 331 is a ...randomized, open-label, phase III trial of nivolumab versus standard chemotherapy in relapsed SCLC. Patients with relapse after first-line, platinum-based chemotherapy were randomized 1 : 1 to nivolumab 240 mg every 2 weeks or chemotherapy (topotecan or amrubicin) until progression or unacceptable toxicity. Primary endpoint was overall survival (OS).
Overall, 284 patients were randomized to nivolumab and 285 to chemotherapy. Minimum follow-up was 15.8 months. No significant improvement in OS was seen with nivolumab versus chemotherapy median OS, 7.5 versus 8.4 months; hazard ratio (HR), 0.86; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.72-1.04; P = 0.11. A survival benefit with nivolumab was suggested in patients with baseline lactate dehydrogenase ≤ upper limit of normal and in those without baseline liver metastases. OS (nivolumab versus chemotherapy) was similar in patients with programmed death-ligand 1 combined positive score ≥1% versus <1%. Median progression-free survival was 1.4 versus 3.8 months (HR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.18-1.69). Objective response rate was 13.7% versus 16.5% (odds ratio, 0.80; 95% CI, 0.50-1.27); median duration of response was 8.3 versus 4.5 months. Rates of grade 3 or 4 treatment-related adverse events were 13.8% versus 73.2%.
Nivolumab did not improve survival versus chemotherapy in relapsed SCLC. No new safety signals were seen. In exploratory analyses, select baseline characteristics were associated with improved OS for nivolumab.
•The primary endpoint of OS with nivolumab versus chemotherapy as second-line treatment of SCLC was not met.•Crossing of the survival curves indicates higher long-term survival with nivolumab in a subset of patients.•Post hoc analyses suggest patients with baseline LDH ≤ ULN and those without liver metastases may benefit from nivolumab.•The safety profile of nivolumab was consistent with prior studies and more favorable than that of chemotherapy.
Segundo o IBGE, no ano de 2015 o estado do Paraná tinha uma população 5.646.193 mulheres e 5.516.825 homens. Destes, 6.91% e 5.79% eram mulheres e homens, respectivamente, com 60 anos e mais. Dados ...do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (2014), revelaram um total de 1.632 casos de HIV e 984 de AIDS. Nas faixas etá- rias de 50 a 59 e 60 a 69 foram notificados 180 e 50 casos, respectivamente. Esta estatística expõe a importância de medidas socioeducativas permanentes em torno do tema para a terceira idade, já que o índice de envelhecimento comprova aumento na expectativa de vida do brasileiro sem, contudo, observarmos redução nos agravos de saúde relacionados as doenças sexualmente transmissíveis. Utilizamos a cienciometria para a coleta nos sites: Instituto Brasileiro de Informações em Ciência e Tecnologia (IBICT) e Google. Os descritores empregados foram “preservativo feminino e terceira idade” e “preservativo masculino e terceira idade”. IBICT resultou em 2 artigos e 4 dissertações. Google apontou 10 sites, 1 artigo em PDF e um do Scielo. Conclui-se que as informações têm sido popularizadas superficialmente no Google e que o IBICT apresenta baixa contribuição científica, evidenciando necessidade de investimentos em ambos.
The experiment was carried out in the Experimental farm of Unimontes in Janaúba, MG, Brazil, aimingat determining the agronomic characteristics of five sorghum genotypes cultivated in the winter. The ...materials usedwere Volumax, AG 2005E, Qualimax, BRS 610 and AG 2501. The planting was accomplished in random blocks designin field trial, with four replications per genotype. The agronomic characteristics were assessed by counting number ofplants ha-1, number of lodged plants, number of broken plants, plant height. Through weighting, green matter yield,dry matter yield and stem proportions, leaves and panicle were evaluated. The number of plants ha-1 was superior inthe genotype AG 2501 for being of the type cut and grazing. The average height values ranged from 1.63 to 2.40 m.Concerning GMY.ha-1 and DMY.ha-1 the highest production rates were observed for BRS 610, Volumax and AG 2005Egenotypes. AG 2005E overcame all the others in leaf percentage. Regarding number of panicle, BRS 610, AG 2005E,Volumax and Qualimax genotypes were similar overcoming AG 2501. The highest stem percentage was observedfor the genotype AG 2501. The DM contents were superior in the AG 2501, BRS 610 and AG 2005E genotypes.The studied genotypes presented good green mass production and also agronomic characteristics appropriated to theproduction of silages with good fermentative pattern when cultivated in the winter.
Abstract.Purpose Evaluate the association of primary headache and Temporomandibular Dysfunction in healthy adolescents from the Santos, SP, Brazil. Participants and Methods A total of 208 ...adolescents, aged 11 to 16 years old were randomly selected at the dentistry clinic at Universidade Metropolitana de Santos. For that, the Fonseca Anamnestic Index was applied, including information such as: limitation when opening the mouth and moving the jaw, headaches, pain in the temporomandibular joint, noises in the temporomandibular joint, and the habit of tightening or grinding the teeth. The data were submitted to descriptive statistical analysis and the χ2 test and Fisher's exact test were used to evaluate the association of categorical variables. Results The results were 63% of male participants, and 61% of female participants had Temporomandibular Dysfunction. In both genders headache was associated with the presence of Temporomandibular Dysfunction, with 93 participants with light headache and 39 with moderate headache. Conclusion There was an association between headache and the presence of Temporomandibular Dysfunction, and the percentage of affected males was slightly higher among this association. In the sample of adolescents who presented Temporomandibular Dysfunction, moderate headache was the main reported symptom of both genders.
