Cloud computing and artificial intelligence are now widely used for classroom teaching in higher learning institutes. The digital teaching supported to ICT technologies in colleges serves as a ...central point for the advancement of modern education; and has become as a mode of instruction and an approach to teaching. Digital teaching has emerged as a major driving force in the advancement of digital economy and digitization of education in colleges. In this paper, we investigate the movable information management system utilized in the digital teaching using edge computing and 5G wireless communication technology. Furthermore, we explain the idea of a mobile data scheme and presents a teaching platform based on the edge computing and 5G-enabled wireless communication technology. The main objective of this work is to develop a digital teaching framework for college students that, in fact, enables digital teaching, the collection, and incorporation of teaching information, the provision of modern education, and sharing of resources. Cutting-edge technology advancements in the educational platform have the potential to improve 5G communication. To implement the cutting-edge technology, all types of technological devices, smart devices, and gadgets from the Internet of Things (IoT) platform are used. We evaluated the proposed system through reasonable assumptions and numerical simulations. The experimental results reveal that the suggested system has significantly improved the teaching efficiency with which digital teaching management is managed in colleges. Moreover, the edge and 5G technology can significantly improve the system performance, in terms of response time, that can be as high as 11.45% when compared to non-cloud based approaches.

A novel Fe-modified lignin-based biochar (Fe-LB) was fabricated via a facile one-step carbonization method for methylene blue (MB) removal from wastewater. Fe-LB exhibited a high specific surface area (885.97 m2/g) and micropore volume (0.3203 m3/g), and demonstrated high affinity for MB with the maximum adsorption capacity of 2.7-fold by Fe-LB than LB. It was found that quick adsorption could be achieved in 15 min with the MB removal efficiency of 100% and adsorption capacity reached 200 mg/g. Selective adsorption studies indicated that Fe-LB preferentially adsorbed MB in high salt and multiple dye systems (binary, ternary, and quaternary) over a wide pH range from 2 to 12. The removal efficiency of CR was greatly improved due to the synergistic effect between MB and CR in the binary system. This work demonstrated that Fe-LB can effectively remove dye contaminants and possessed great potential in the treatment of MB polluted dye wastewater.

The lignin-based magnetic biochar (LMB) was fabricated with a facile one-step solvothermal method. The spherical Fe3O4 was successfully loaded on the lignin-based biochar. LMB could efficiently remove Cr(VI) and Congo red (CR) synergistically with the adsorption of biochar and the catalytic/reduction of Fe3O4. LMB showed a removal efficiency of 100 % for Cr(VI) (100 mg/L) at 30 min. The LMB could be a catalyst to activate persulfate (PS) to degrade CR. The LMB + PS system showed a removal efficiency of 94.3 % for CR at 60 min. Moreover, LMB could simultaneously remove 41.5 % of Cr(VI) and 91.5 % of CR in the mixed Cr(VI) and CR solution. The simulated wastewater studies showed that LMB exhibited superior high Cr(VI) (100 %) and CR (82 %) removal efficiencies with the coexistent of anions, cations, and organic matter. LMB can be effectively applied to remove Cr(VI) and CR and purify different contaminated water bodies.

Chitosan coated biochar-supported nano zero-valent iron aerogel (C-nZVI@BC) was successfully synthesized for the efficient removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. Results showed that the C-nZVI@BC has a 2.1-fold higher adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) than the uncoated sample. Chitosan coating on nZVI@BC and BC support could prevent the oxidation and agglomeration of nZVI. Ultrafast adsorption of Cr(VI) with 61 %, 77 %, and 87 % of the maximum adsorption capacities were achieved within 1 min with the initial concentrations of Cr(VI) at 100 mg/L, 300 mg/L, and 600 mg/L, respectively. The C-nZVI@BC exhibited high adsorption performance under aerobic conditions, and showed high Cr(VI) removal rates (>83 %) in a wide pH range (2–8). Cr(VI) and Cr(III) could be simultaneously removed by C-nZVI@BC, and the key mechanisms were adsorption, reduction, and complexation. The acid and alkali resistance experiment of C-nZVI@BC showed that C-nZVI@BC still has better adsorption capacity of Cr(VI) (96.7 mg/g) in acid environment. The application of C-nZVI@BC in the simulated electroplating wastewater treatment indicated a high removal rate of Cr(VI). C-nZVI@BC could effectively reduce the low concentration of Cr(VI) below the standard of the World Health Organization. The syringe filtration and column adsorption experiments implied the potential of C-nZVI@BC for Cr(VI) removal in groundwater. In addition, C-nZVI@BC could be a direct reducing agent for Cr(VI) and an activator of persulfate (PS) for the degradation of antibiotics, and C-nZVI@BC + PS showed 77 % and 82 % removal of tetracycline and chlortetracycline within 5 min. Overall, C-nZVI@BC was a suitable adsorbent for pollutant removal.
Loss of appetite or anorexia associated with inflammation impairs quality of life and increases morbidity in many diseases. However, the exact neural mechanism that mediates inflammation-associated ...anorexia is still poorly understood. Here we identified a population of neurons, marked by the expression of protein kinase C-delta, in the oval region of the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), which are activated by various inflammatory signals. Silencing of these neurons attenuates the anorexia caused by these inflammatory signals. Our results demonstrate that these neurons mediate bidirectional control of general feeding behaviors. These neurons inhibit the lateral hypothalamus-projecting neurons in the ventrolateral part of BNST to regulate feeding, receive inputs from the canonical feeding regions of arcuate nucleus and parabrachial nucleus. Our data therefore define a BNST microcircuit that might coordinate canonical feeding centers to regulate food intake, which could offer therapeutic targets for feeding-related diseases such as anorexia and obesity.

In recent years, low-cost and high-performance properties of adsorbents have become a strong demand in adsorbents preparation. Biochar and lignin present great potential for wastewater treatment due to their unique physicochemical properties, and were found to be promising candidate materials in pollutant removal by adsorption in the practical application process. Researchers have adopted various methods to modify biochar and lignin to enhance their adsorption efficiency. In this study, the source, preparation methods, and structural features of biochar and lignin are thoroughly reviewed. The latest progress of biochar-based adsorbents (BBAs) and lignin-based adsorbents (LBAs) in wastewater treatment were reported and comparatively analyzed. The adsorption mechanisms between BBAs/LBAs and various pollutants were analyzed. Besides, the potential and challenge of BBAs and LBAs in pollution remediation and industrial application were comprehensively discussed. To accelerate the development of LBAs and BBAs in wastewater treatment, further explorations are necessary for the preparation of the novel LBAs/BBAs, exploring the adsorption mechanism and industrial application.
Effective purification of arsenic (As)-contaminated soil and water remains an urgent task for mankind. Biochar was applied to remove As due to its low price, easy preparation, and high efficiency. ...This paper provides the latest analysis of biochar-based materials for arsenic-contaminated water and soil. In this review, different sources of feedstock and modification methods on the performance of biochar and the adsorption capacity of As are compared. The factors such as pH, site conditions, and the coexistence of heavy metals affecting biochar-based materials in arsenic removal are also studied. The As removal mechanisms were mainly inner-complexation/precipitation, ligand exchange, electrostatic attraction, and redox transformation. Finally, this review proposes insights on future development and challenges of biochar, along with the cost, regeneration, and practical application analysis. Results showed that biochar-based materials could be applied for practical applications.

Bacterial branched and archaeal isoprenoid glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs and isoGDGTs, respectively) have become important tools for the paleoclimate reconstruction of lacustrine systems. However, it is still unclear how geochemical proxies based on GDGTs, particularly in lake surface sediments, respond to seasonal environmental changes in shallow water lakes, whose sediment cores are increasingly being used for paleoenvironmental reconstruction. In this study, we collected samples from the top 0–2 cm of sediments and water column suspended particulate matter (SPM) at a monthly interval from June 2015 to May 2016 in Lake Donghu, a shallow lake in central China. An updated liquid chromatography method was used to separate the 5- and 6-methyl brGDGTs. A remarkable difference between the lake sediments, SPM, and catchment soils suggested that microorganisms inhabiting the surface sediments contributed a significant proportion of isoGDGTs and brGDGTs to the GDGT pool in the lake sediments. We found a clear seasonality in the concentration and distribution of core lipid (CL) isoGDGTs and brGDGTs in the lake surface sediments, in contrast to the absence of seasonality in brGDGTs in mid-latitude soils reported by previous studies. The intact polar lipid/CL ratios for both isoGDGTs and brGDGTs in the lake surface sediments were significantly higher than those in SPM and catchment soils and were higher in the warm seasons than in winter. This collectively suggested that the turnover of brGDGTs in the lake sediments was faster than that in soils. Furthermore, the GDGT-0/Cren ratio for the lake sediments exhibited a negative correlation with dissolved oxygen in the water column. The cyclisation degree of C5-methylated brGDGTs (CBT5ME) was strongly related to water pH. Seasonal temperature variation clearly impacted the methylation degree of C6-methylated brGDGTs (MBT′6ME) but had no influence on C5-methylated brGDGTs (MBT′5ME), as opposed to the dependence of MBT′5ME on temperature in global soils, peatlands and African lakes. Due to the fast turnover rate and the sensitive response to seasonality, we suggest that the seasonal variation of fossil GDGTs in lake sediments should be considered when developing a calibration using fossil GDGTs in shallow-water lake surface sediments.
To systematically evaluate the clinical effect of wavefront-guided laser in situ keratomileusis (WFG-LASIK) and small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) in terms of refractive errors and ...high-order aberrations. A systematic literature search of PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science and China National Knowledge Internet was performed to identify studies evaluating the clinical outcomes of SMILE and WFG-LASIK ended in May 2022. Meta-analyses were performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. The risk of bias of the RCTs was evaluated using the Cochrane Handbook criteria, and the quality of the non-randomised controlled studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. In total, 1385 eyes (SMILE group, 750 eyes; WFG-LASIK group, 635 eyes) from 12 studies were included. The meta-analysis demonstrated that spherical aberration was smaller in the SMILE group than in the WFG-LASIK group (standardised mean difference SMD: -0.34, 95% confidence interval CI: -0.47, -0.22; p < 0.00001), and that the postoperative values of vertical coma (SMD: 0.83; 95% CI: 0.63, 1.03; p < 0.00001) and trefoil (SMD: 0.37; 95% CI: 0.02, 0.72; p = 0.04) were higher in the SMILE group compared to the WFG LASIK group. There were no significant differences in the clinical outcomes and the values of induced total higher order aberrations between the WFG-LASIK and SMILE groups (SMD: 0.05; 95% CI: -0.09, 0.19; p = 0.47). Both SMILE and WFG-LASIK were found to be safe, effective, and predictable. SMILE may induce more vertical coma and trefoil, whereas WFG LASIK may induce more spherical aberrations, but no significant differences were found in the total higher order aberrations between SMILE and WFG-LASIK.
