Numerous studies for smart antennas with spatial processing to estimate the directions of arrival (DOA) have already been conducted. However, these studies mostly include uniform linear arrays (ULA) ...and uniform circular arrays (UCA) but not as much effort has been devoted to other configurations, such as uniform rectangular arrays (URA). One of the most popular subspace DOA algorithms is MUSIC algorithm. This paper presents DOA estimation using MUSIC algorithm with uniform rectangular arrays (URA). It also evaluates simulation results of MUSIC algorithm varying the number of antenna elements, the signal-to-noise ratio and the number of samples of the incident signals. Performance improvement in DOA estimation is demonstrated for certain range of input parameters and the results can be used to set the criteria for optimal performance of rectangular smart antennas. In this paper, the performance of DOA estimation with uniform rectangular arrays (URA) and uniform circular arrays (UCA) is also examined and compared.
Delayed intestinal perforation has various manifestations. For peritonitis with delayed treatment and multi-bacterial peritonitis, we should be alert to the occurrence of this rare complication. ...Abdominal CT examination and imaging results judgment based on clinical conditions are particularly important for diagnosis. Delayed intestinal perforation of peritoneal dialysis catheter is a rare but serious complication. We reported a 49-year-old patient who had been hospitalized twice within 3 months due to poor drainage of the peritoneal dialysis catheter. During the first hospitalization, peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis was diagnosed, and a variety of bacterial infections were cultivated. However, at that time, the actual peritoneal dialysis catheter-related intestinal perforation was missed, and he was discharged after anti-infection treatment until a clinical cure was met. After more than 2 months of normal peritoneal dialysis after returning home, the patient again had poor drainage of the peritoneal dialysis catheter, accompanied by the outflow of yellowish-brown sediment. It was found that the peritoneal dialysis catheter had evidence of intestinal perforation. After the removal of the catheter and intestinal repair, he recovered and was discharged from the hospital and received long-term hemodialysis treatment. In the case of delayed intestinal perforation, peritoneal dialysis was maintained normally for more than 2 months, which was an unprecedented situation in previous case reports. In addition, we should be alert to the occurrence of this rare complication, especially when we find the occurrence of polybacterial Peritonitis. Abdominal CT examination and imaging results judgment based on clinical conditions are particularly important for diagnosis.
As the electromagnetic environment becomes more complex, it is particularly important to objectively evaluate the electromagnetic environment in urban areas. Traditional electromagnetic radiation ...monitoring methods still remain at the stage of monitoring and processing at independent stations. It is impossible to obtain the continuous data of regional electromagnetic radiation. However, spatial interpolation can reasonably estimate unknown values from data observed at known locations, finally get the complete data of electromagnetic field and predict the distribution of electromagnetic radiation in the region of interest. In this paper, the interpolation results are quantitatively evaluated by the criteria of mean error and root mean square error in three methods: Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW), Radial basis function (RBF) and Ordinary Kriging.
With the development of electric power system, the voltage levels of transmission line have increased considerably. There is an increasing concern about the electric and magnetic fields produced by ...ultra high voltage (UHV) transmission lines. Many methods have been developed for calculating the electric field magnitudes around the transmission lines, a simplified method based on the charge simulation method (CSM) for calculating electric field distribution is presented. After verifying the effectiveness of the charge simulation method (CSM) which is implemented in MATLAB, electric field at power frequency is analyzed for various scenarios like varying height of conductors, different spacing of phase conductors, and variable radius of sub conductors.
The recent identification and analysis of mammalian homologues of the well characterized
Drosophila circadian clock gene,
Period (
Per), has led to the idea that key features of vertebrate circadian ...rhythmicity are conserved at the molecular level. The
Xenopus laevis retina contains a circadian clock mechanism that can be studied in vitro. To study the rhythmic expression of
Per in the
Xenopus retina, we used a degenerate RT–PCR strategy to obtain cDNA clones covering the entire 1427 amino acid coding region of a
Xenopus homologue of
Per2 and a partial cDNA sequence for a
Xenopus homologue of
Per1. Northern blot analysis shows that
xPer1 and
xPer2 transcripts are expressed most abundantly in the eye and the brain. However, rhythmic expression of
xPer2 transcripts in the retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is light dependent and occurs only under 12 h light/12 h dark (LD) conditions, not in constant dark (DD). In contrast,
xPer1 mRNA accumulation is rhythmic under both LD and DD conditions. Light dependent regulation of
xPer2 mRNA and circadian regulation of
xPer1 mRNA in the
Xenopus retina differs from that in
Drosophila and mammals. Light dependence of
xPer2 mRNA levels and the offset phase relationship of the
xPer2 rhythm to that for
xPer1 suggests a role for
xPer2 in circadian entrainment.
Ectodysplasin, a member of the tumor necrosis factor family, is encoded by the anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (EDA) gene. Mutations in EDA give rise to a clinical syndrome characterized by loss of ...hair, sweat glands, and teeth.
While the achievable rate region and the maximal sum-rate with beamforming techniques are the focus of the research of multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel (IC) presently, we ...propose another beamforming technique that the minimum pairwise error probability (PEP) of a MISO IC system is pursued. The model of the optimization problem of minimizing the PEP of the system is studied, and the simplification of the goal function of the optimization problem is carried out. Both the instantaneous and the statistical channel state information (CSI) are considered. Numerical illustrations are provided, comparing the proposed minimum sum-PEP method to the maximum sum-rate method for their symbol error probability (SEP) performance. Simulation results show that in a MISO IC system the sum-PEP method has better transmission reliability than the maximum sum-rate beamforming vectors.
The properties, structure and performance of a Solar Radio Spectrometer working at 5.2-7.6 GHz developed by National Astronomical Observatories/Beijing and Hebei Semiconductor Research Institute are ...described. The spectrometer has a spectral resolution of 20 MHz and a temporal resolution of 5 ms, with an instantaneous detectable range from 2% to 10 times flux of the quiet Sun. It can measure both left and right circular polarizations with an accuracy of 10% of polarization degree. Some results of preliminary observations are presented.PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
The TNF-like ligand BAFF/BLyS is a potent survival factor for B cells. It binds three receptors: TACI, BCMA, and BR3. We show that BR3 signaling promotes processing of the transcription factor ...NF-kappaB2/p100 to p52. NF-kappaB2/p100 cleavage was abrogated in B cells from A/WySnJ mice possessing a mutant BR3 gene, but not in TACI or BCMA null B cells. Furthermore, wild-type mice injected with BAFF-neutralizing BR3-Fc protein showed reduced basal NF-kappaB2 activation. BR3-Fc treatment of NZB/WF1 mice, which develop a fatal lupus-like syndrome, inhibited NF-kappaB2 processing and attenuated the disease process. Since inhibiting the BR3-BAFF interaction has therapeutic ramifications, the ligand binding interface of BR3 was investigated and found to reside within a 26 residue core domain. When stabilized within a structured beta-hairpin peptide, six of these residues were sufficient to confer binding to BAFF.
