Comprehensive learning particle swarm optimization (CLPSO) is a powerful state-of-the-art single-objective metaheuristic. Extending from CLPSO, this paper proposes multiswarm CLPSO (MSCLPSO) for ...multiobjective optimization. MSCLPSO involves multiple swarms, with each swarm associated with a separate original objective. Each particle's personal best position is determined just according to the corresponding single objective. Elitists are stored externally. MSCLPSO differs from existing multiobjective particle swarm optimizers in three aspects. First, each swarm focuses on optimizing the associated objective using CLPSO, without learning from the elitists or any other swarm. Second, mutation is applied to the elitists and the mutation strategy appropriately exploits the personal best positions and elitists. Third, a modified differential evolution (DE) strategy is applied to some extreme and least crowded elitists. The DE strategy updates an elitist based on the differences of the elitists. The personal best positions carry useful information about the Pareto set, and the mutation and DE strategies help MSCLPSO discover the true Pareto front. Experiments conducted on various benchmark problems demonstrate that MSCLPSO can find nondominated solutions distributed reasonably over the true Pareto front in a single run.
Due to the increasing antibiotic resistance and the lack of broad-spectrum antibiotics, there is an urgent requirement to develop fresh strategies to combat multidrug-resistant pathogens. Herein, ...defect-rich bismuth molybdate heterojunctions zero-dimensional (0D) Bi4MoO9/two-dimensional (2D) Bi2MoO6, MBO were designed for rapid capture of bacteria and synergistic photocatalytic sterilization. The as-prepared MBO was experimentally and theoretically demonstrated to possess defects, heterojunctions, and irradiation triple-enhanced photocatalytic activity for efficient generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) due to the exposure of more active sites and separation of effective electron–hole pairs. Meanwhile, dopamine-modified MBO (pMBO) achieved a positively charged and rough surface, which conferred strong bacterial adhesion and physical penetration to the nanosheets, effectively trapping bacteria within the damage range and enhancing ROS damage. Based on this potent antibacterial ability of pMBO, a multifunctional hydrogel consisting of poly(vinyl alcohol) cross-linked tannic acid-coated cellulose nanocrystals (CPTB) and pMBO, namely CPTB@pMBO, is developed and convincingly effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in a mouse skin infection model. In addition, the strategy of combining a failed beta-lactam antibiotic with CPTB@pMBO to photoinactivation with no resistance observed was developed, which presented an idea to address the issue of antibiotic resistance in bacteria and to explore facile anti-infection methods. In addition, CPTB@pMBO can reduce excessive proteolysis of tissue and inflammatory response by regulating the expression of genes and pro-inflammatory factors in vivo, holding great potential for the effective treatment of wound infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria.
The rotor flux linkage of permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is of great importance for monitoring and high-performance control. However, most of the existing online estimation methods need ...prior knowledge of other PMSM parameters such as stator resistance and dq axis inductance, which are difficult to realize in the rank-deficient models of electrical machines. This article proposes a simple online estimation method of rotor flux linkage for the dual three-phase surface-mounted PMSM (SPMSM) drives with the assistance of injected position offset. The independent estimation model has been developed for the rotor flux linkage by appropriate setting of positon offset between two sets of three-phase windings of dual three-phase SPMSM drives. The proposed method not only has little influence on the output torque and high signal-to-noise ratio for observation, but also offers the superior performance in estimation accuracy irrespective of the influence of VSI nonlinearity. In addition, the proposed position-offset-based method is suitable for the full-speed region including the field-weakening operation. Finally, comprehensive experimental results are presented to verify validity of the proposed method under different working conditions.
The basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factor is one of the most abundant and conserved gene families in eukaryotes. In addition to participating in plant development and growth, bZIP ...transcription factors play crucial roles in various abiotic stress responses and anthocyanin accumulation. Up to now, analysis of bZIP gene family members in pomegranate (Punica granatum) has not been reported. Three published pomegranate genome sequences provide valuable resources for further gene function analysis.
Using bioinformatics analysis, 65 PgbZIPs were identified and analyzed from the 'Taishanhong' pomegranate genome. We divided them into 13 groups (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, M, and S) according to the phylogenetic relationship with those of Arabidopsis, each containing a different number of genes. The regularity of exon/intron number and distribution was consistent with the classification of groups in the evolutionary tree. Transcriptome analysis of different tissues showed that members of the PgbZIP gene family were differentially expressed in different developmental stages and tissues of pomegranate. Among them, we selected PgbZIP16 and PgbZIP34 as candidate genes which affect anthocyanin accumulation. The full-length CDS region of PgbZIP16 and PgbZIP34 were cloned from pomegranate petals by homologous cloning technique, encoding 170 and 174 amino acids, which were 510 bp and 522 bp, respectively. Subcellular localization assays suggested that both PgbZIP16 and PgbZIP34 were nucleus-localized. Real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) was used to explore the expression of PgbZIP16 and PgbZIP34 in the petals of three kinds of ornamental pomegranates at the full flowering stage. The results demonstrated that the expression of PgbZIP16 in red petals was 5.83 times of that in white petals, while PgbZIP34 was 3.9 times. The results of transient expression in tobacco showed that consistent trends were observed in anthocyanin concentration and expression levels of related genes, which both increased and then decreased. Both PgbZIP16 and PgbZIP34 could promote anthocyanin accumulation in tobacco leaves. We obtained transgenic strains overexpressing PgbZIP16, and the histochemical staining for GUS activity showed that overexpressed PgbZIP16 seedlings were expressed in the stem. Transgenic experiments indicated that overexpression of PgbZIP16 significantly upregulated UF3GT, ANS and DFR genes in Arabidopsis and enhanced anthocyanin accumulation.
The whole genome identification, gene structure, phylogeny, gene cloning, subcellular location and functional verification of the pomegranate bZIP gene family provide a theoretical foundation for the functional study of the PgbZIP gene family and candidate genes for anthocyanin biosynthesis.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with metastatic disease is associated with a low survival in clinical practice. Many curative options including liver resection, transplantation, and thermal ablation ...are effective in local but limited for patients with distant metastasis. In this study, the efficacy, specificity, and safety of P-selectin targeted delivery and microwave (MW) responsive drug release is investigated for development of HCC therapy. By encapsulating doxorubicin (DOX) and MW sensitizer (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium-l-lactate, BML) into fucoidan conjugated liposomal nanoparticles (TBP@DOX), specific accumulation and prominent release of DOX in orthotopic HCC and lung metastasis are achieved with adjuvant MW exposure. This results in orthotopic HCC growth inhibition that is not only 1.95-fold higher than found for nontargeted BP@DOX and 1.6-fold higher than nonstimuli responsive TP@DOX but is also equivalent to treatment with free DOX at a 10-fold higher dose. Furthermore, the optimum anticancer efficacy against distant lung metastasis and effective prevention of widespread dissemination with a prolonged survival is described. In addition, no adverse metabolic events are identified using the TBP@DOX nanodelivery system despite these events being commonly observed with traditional DOX chemotherapy. Therefore, administering TBP@DOX with MW exposure could potentially enhance the therapeutic efficacy of thermal-chemotherapy of HCC, especially those in the advanced stages.
Structural transformations in different coal ranks during low temperature oxidation (≤ 210°C) are crucial to understand the spontaneous combustion of coal and related environmental problems. The ...in-situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) technique was used to highlight the variations of aromatic, aliphatic, oxygen functional groups, and hydrogen bonds of different coal ranks spanning from lignite to anthracite. Chemical changes were observed at real-time experimental conditions. Characteristic temperature points were selected as the point where obvious gas changes occurred. Structural parameters were determined by fitting FTIR spectra. The band of highly substituted aromatic rings had a direct correlation with low rank coals. The degree of substitution (DOS) of aromatic sites with alkyl groups showed a good power function correlation with fixed carbon content. Aliphatic carbon changes displayed similar trends with different coal ranks. Moreover, increasing coalification decreased the oxygen functional parameter 'C'. The 'C' value of samples with high oxygen content increased with temperature, caused due to the oxidation of aliphatic structures. The fitting areas of the 3600-3000 cm
−1
region reduced with increasing coal rank. The aromatic structures changed more significantly with temperature in low-rank coal than in high-rank coal.
Environmental factors work together to affect active ingredient biosynthesis via hormone signal–transcription regulatory networks in medical plants.Transcriptional regulation is the first step in ...controlling gene expression and, therefore, directly affects active ingredient biosynthesis. Numerous experimental data have been used to identify transcription factors, their binding sites, and interacting proteins. The development of high-throughput sequencing technology promotes deeper research into the molecular mechanisms underlying transcriptional regulation of active ingredient biosynthesis.Transcriptional regulatory networks controlling active ingredients reveal the molecular mechanisms by which biotic and abiotic factors influence active ingredient biosynthesis. Transcriptional regulatory networks can be altered to generate medical plants with high active ingredient contents.
High-value active ingredients in medicinal plants have attracted research attention because of their benefits for human health, such as the antimalarial artemisinin, anticardiovascular disease tanshinones, and anticancer Taxol and vinblastine. Here, we review how hormones and environmental factors promote the accumulation of active ingredients, thereby providing a strategy to produce high-value drugs at a low cost. Focusing on major hormone signaling events and environmental factors, we review the transcriptional regulatory network mediating biosynthesis of representative active ingredients. In this network, many transcription factors (TFs) simultaneously control multiple synthase genes; thus, understanding the molecular mechanisms affecting transcriptional regulation of active ingredients will be crucial to developing new breeding possibilities.
Three new cyclic lipopeptides, olenamidonins A-C (1–3), in addition to two previously reported metabolites (4 and 5), were accumulated in the ΔdtxRso deletion mutant of deepsea-derived Streptomyces ...olivaceus SCSIO 1071. The structures of these cyclic lipopeptides were determined by a combination of spectroscopic methods and circular dichroism (CD) measurement. The antibacterial assay results showed that compounds 1–5 displayed different degrees of growth inhibition against multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial strains Enterococcus faecalis CCARM 5172 and Enterococcus faecium CCARM 5203 with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 1.56−6.25 μg/mL.

Triglyceride glycemic-body mass index (TyG-BMI) is a simple and reliable surrogate for insulin resistance (IR). However, it is still unclear if TyG-BMI has any predictive value in patients having ...percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The purpose of this study was to examine the TyG-BMI index's prognostic significance and predictive power in patients with STEMI. The study comprised a total of 2648 consecutive STEMI patients who underwent PCI. The primary endpoint was the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), defined as the combination of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, and coronary revascularization. The TyG-BMI index was formulated as ln fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting plasma glucose (mg/dL)/2 × BMI. 193 patients in all experienced MACE over a median follow-up of 14.7 months. There was a statistically significant difference between the Kaplan-Meier survival curves for the TyG-BMI index tertiles (log-rank test, p = 0.019) for the cumulative incidence of MACE. The adjusted HRs for the incidence of MACE in the middle and highest quartiles of the TyG-BMI index compared with the lowest quartile were 1.37 (95% CI 0.92, 2.03) and 1.53 (95% CI 1.02, 2.29), respectively, in the fully adjusted Cox regression model. At six months, one year, and three years, the TyG-BMI area under the curve (AUC) for predicting MACE was 0.691, 0.666, and 0.637, respectively. Additionally, adding the TyG-BMI index to the risk prediction model enhanced outcome prediction. In STEMI patients undergoing PCI, TyG-BMI was independently linked to MACE. TyG-BMI could be a simple and solid way to assess MACE risk and prognosis.
