PLS-SEM has been used recently more and more often in studies researching critical factors influencing the acceptance and use of information systems, especially when the technology acceptance model ...(TAM) is implemented. TAM has proved to be the most promising model for researching different viewpoints regarding information technologies, tools/applications, and the acceptance and use of information systems by the employees who act as the end-users in companies. However, the use of advanced PLS-SEM techniques for testing the extended TAM research models for the acceptance of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is scarce. The present research aims to fill this gap and aims to show how PLS-SEM results can be enhanced by advanced techniques: artificial neural network analysis (ANN) and Importance–Performance Matrix Analysis (IPMA). ANN was used in this research study to overcome the limitations of PLS-SEM regarding the linear relationships in the model. IPMA was used in evaluating the importance and performance of factors/drivers in the SEM. From the methodological point of view, results show that the research approach with ANN artificial intelligence complements the results of PLS-SEM while allowing the capture of nonlinear relationships between the variables of the model and the determination of the relative importance of each factor studied. On other hand, IPMA enables the identification of factors with relatively low performance but relatively high importance in shaping dependent variables.
One of the key activities of any company is the management of documents, which are created on a daily basis. Classic document management cannot follow the needs of the market for companies with a ...desire to be agile and modern. Therefore, companies need to offer employees a solution that allows them to carefully store and archive documentation, while at the same time giving them enough time to perform their main daily tasks. Electronic management of documents not only influences companies' workflows, savings and adaptions to market needs but also influences their digital transformation. It is also necessary to consider the influences on the environment. The influence of the production and use of paper in daily business has burdened the environment a lot in the past and it is about time that this matter is addressed. Implementation of a document management system (DMS) is now almost a must-have for companies wanting to be competitive in the market and with a desire to digitalise its processes, and is also surely a good step in the right direction for the environment. The aim of this paper is to define the advantages of disadvantages of a DMS as part of companies' digital transformation as well as to provide an overview of the process of implementation and to analyse future trends and predictions in this field. For better understanding, the authors also included some examples of the implementation of a DMS in Slovenian companies.
Purpose
The consequences of human social irresponsibility urge socially responsible reactions. The authors expose the consequences of socially irresponsible behaviour and state possible requisitely ...holistic tools to eliminate organisations’ dangerous and socially irresponsible behaviour. This paper aims to examine how the viable system model (the VSM) used as a diagnostic tool can help organisations support socially responsible behaviour.
Design/methodology/approach
Given the variety of systems methodologies, the authors selected the VSM as a key methodological tool of Organizational Cybernetics. A case-study approach is used to demonstrate the power of the VSM as a diagnostic tool.
Findings
Humans need to replace recklessness and selfishness by faster re-orientation towards a socially responsible society. By following the cybernetic circle of the preparation and implementation of the management process and practising social responsibility via the VSM, organisations can conduct socially responsible business operations for a socially responsible society. Respecting the pluralist nature of social responsibility and a limited framework of the VSM, the VSM analysis needs to be supported by interpretive systems approaches, such as Strategic Assumptions Surfacing and Testing (SAST).
Research limitations/implications
The presented study’s limitation is the case study of a selected organisation from Europe. The discussion could be relevant to each organisation, which is observed as a viable system. The insights gained with this case study can be broadened by empirical research involving diverse organisations from various countries.
Practical implications
Research results indicate socially irresponsible behaviours of the researched organisation and possible ways of overcoming them. The cybernetic circle of the preparation and implementation of socially responsible management processes through the VSM offers a possible path towards more social responsibility in organisations. Moreover, the VSM should be used in combination with interpretive systems approaches, such as SAST.
Social implications
The generality of the VSM indicates that decision-makers could use the VSM for diagnosing socially irresponsible behaviour in organisations and for redesigning organisations to help develop a more socially responsible society.
Originality/value
The paper contributes to a cybernetic framework and methodological support to social responsibility. This study could serve as an essential starting point for organisations wishing to take further steps towards social responsibility.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to prove that it is possible and necessary that higher education institutions develop appropriate competencies of students during the learning process as required ...by the practice if teachers use the systemic approach and cybernetics knowledge. The authors especially research the importance of competence entrepreneurship and how to stimulate entrepreneurship by developing competencies of creativity, teamwork and communication.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on systems theory, transversal competencies entrepreneurship, creativity, teamwork and communication, as well as their interdependence, were requisitely holistic selected. In the selection of diverse contemporary learning methods, the authors started from an action research approach that implies learning by doing, i.e. participation of students. With the use of statistical methods, the authors showed that a cyber-systemic requisite holistic learning action approach based on interdependence of teacher and students learning process results in innovation of researched transversal competencies.
Findings
Based on two quantitative and qualitative researches of 96 students’ competencies, the authors found out that when using contemporary learning methods, the desired results can be achieved. In described learning process everyone involved gained: both the teacher and the students.
Research limitations/implications
The survey does not include verifying the usefulness of developed competencies in practice. Also, the study only covers the findings of the research study of one academic year.
Practical implications
The research is important for the practice of higher education, as it demonstrates that the teacher is with a targeted focus on the selected viewpoints able to effectively improve students’ competencies.
Social implications
If higher education’s institutions take a strategic decision to target improvement of the transversal competencies of students, they will be easier and faster to employ, and practice will get more relevant employees. The economy will be more efficient and effective.
Originality/value
According to the authors’ knowledge, no research measures the development of selected transversal competencies using the contemporary learning methods, based on cyber-systemic learning action approach. The authors found out that the methods used have influenced the final results, which show that all measured students’ transversal competencies have improved.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions are the most frequently used software tool in companies in all industries. Therefore, the labour market requires the knowledge and skills for usage of ERP ...solutions from graduates – future employees. The main objective of our paper is therefore the identification of important factors that contribute to the acceptance of ERP solutions by students in economics and business and that shape their intentions to use this knowledge in the future. The model of our research is based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), extended by identified important multidimensional external factors that refer to (1) students’ personal characteristics and information literacy, (2) perceived system and technological characteristics of ERP solutions and (3) perceived support within the study process. Research results revealed that several dimensions of the three multidimensonal factors play an important role in shaping the attitudes towards acceptance of ERP solutions by students.
Enterprise governance results in enterprise policy, which is influenced by enterprise values. The aim of our research was to identify how enterprise values influence enterprise policy innovation. The ...study focuses on four value factors and their relationships as well as on their influence on enterprise policy innovation. The results show that enterprises should pay attention to the chain of value factors identified in our study (V3 → V2 → V4 → V1). Namely, factors 'extremes of the values of enterprise's key stakeholders' (V3), 'analysis of the values of enterprise's key stakeholders' (V2), and 'importance of the examination of the values of enterprise's key stakeholders' (V4) have an indirect impact on factor 'enterprise policy innovation (EPI) via factor 'values of enterprise's key stakeholders' (V1), which influences the factor 'enterprise policy innovation' (EPI) directly. The identified chain of value factors has a strong effect on factor 'enterprise policy innovation' (EPI) via factor 'values of enterprise's key stakeholders' (V1). The implications happen via enterprise's management and the basic-realisation process.
Purpose
Research in the field of openness has become very broad and, unfortunately, also opaque. Thus, the purpose of this paper was to analyse and map the trends by applying bibliometric tools to ...the scientific literature published between 1990 and 2015, for descriptive bibliometric analysis, and 2011 to 2015, for content analysis.
Design/methodology/approach
A bibliometric analysis was used to identify document types, most prolific institutions, countries, source titles and Web of Science categories in the field of openness. Furthermore, bibliometric mapping was performed to discover country and institutional cooperation networks and to be able to understand funding opportunities for openness and information technology research. Additionally, with content analysis, scientific landscape was produced with most prolific terms and their chronological evolution through time.
Findings
The first information sources were published in 1990, and production was steady until 1998. After that period, the growth becomes exponential for the total number of information sources, as well as articles and proceedings papers, with a slight decrease in growth between 2009 and 2011. Descriptive bibliometric analysis showed that the most productive countries were the USA, the UK, Germany, China, Italy and Spain.
Originality/value
This paper presents the first holistic bibliometric analysis of the literature production concerning openness in relation to information and communication technology which helps researchers in the field to better understand the relations between themes and outsiders to get an overview of the openness scientific landscape.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions are the most frequently used software tool in companies in all industries. The growing body of scientific literature about the acceptance of ERP solutions ...by users in companies reflects the growing percieved importance of ERP solutions for business management as well. The labour market requires the knowledge and skills for usage of ERP solutions from graduates - future employees. The main objective of our paper is therefore the identification of important factors that contribute to the acceptance of ERP solutions by students in economics and business and that shape their intentions to use this knowledge in the future. The conceptual model of our research is based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), extended by identified important multidimensional external factors that refer to (1) students' personal characteristics and information literacy, (2) perceived system and technological characteristics of ERP solutions and (3) perceived support within the study process. The conceptual model formed was tested using the structural equation modeling. Research results revailed that several dimensions of the three external factors play an important role in shaping the attitudes towards acceptance of ERP solutions by students. Results of the study have important implications for higher education institutions, reforming and updating their study programs, as well as for educators in the field of economics and business sciences.
The main purpose of this research study was to analyse the impact of CRM solutions on the efficiency of sales processes in the export organisations. The occasional sample of export organisations was ...obtained using the sampling frame of the SloExport database. Despite surveyed companies' expressed opinion, that CRM supported sales processes are the most important for implementation of key criteria of efficiency, the results revealed that the use of CRM solutions in organisations is rather limited: in most cases companies have not supported all sales process phases, and they are often also using only selected functionalities of CRM solutions.
E-business is entering its mature stage. E-business in large companies has been researched in several surveys, whereas SMEs and micro companies have been researched less often. Micro companies are, ...together with SMEs, a critical part of national economies worldwide; both are central to the EU's development strategies. It is welt known that, in an information society, business models are driven by e-business concepts, and e-business models are emerging. An in-depth understanding of e-business use in micro companies is crucial for the success of such companies. The main purpose of this paper is to research the intensity of e-business use, advantages and disadvantages of e-business, the biggest problems of e-business implementation/maintenance, and attitude toward trends of e-business in micro companies. The paper presents findings from a survey carried out on a sample of micro companies. Data were collected via an e-questionnaire, and results were calculated using SPSS. The data confirmed that e-business in micro companies is most often used in connection with e-banking; e-business with the government also appears to be very important.
