It is common but challenging to address high-resolution image blending in the automatic photo editing application. In this paper, we would like to focus on solving the problem of high-resolution ...image blending, where the composite images are provided. We propose a framework called Gaussian-Poisson Generative Adversarial Network (GP-GAN) to leverage the strengths of the classical gradient-based approach and Generative Adversarial Networks. To the best of our knowledge, it's the first work that explores the capability of GANs in high-resolution image blending task. Concretely, we propose Gaussian-Poisson Equation to formulate the high-resolution image blending problem, which is a joint optimization constrained by the gradient and color information. Inspired by the prior works, we obtain gradient information via applying gradient filters. To generate the color information, we propose a Blending GAN to learn the mapping between the composite images and the well-blended ones. Compared to the alternative methods, our approach can deliver high-resolution, realistic images with fewer bleedings and unpleasant artifacts. Experiments confirm that our approach achieves the state-of-the-art performance on Transient Attributes dataset. A user study on Amazon Mechanical Turk finds that the majority of workers are in favor of the proposed method. PLIN3, one of the members of the perilipin family, has been reported to be involved in the formation and accumulation of lipid droplets. However, the expression levels and diagnostic and prognostic ...value of PLIN3 in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remain unclear.
Bioinformatic analysis was used to assess the levels of PLIN3 and the correlation between PLIN3 levels and clinicopathological parameters in renal cancer. The expression levels of PLIN3 were determined in human RCC tissues and cell lines by western blot, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry assays. Receiver operating characteristic curves and Kaplan-Meier curves were used to analyze the diagnostic and prognostic significance of PLIN3 in RCC.
The expression level of PLIN3 was elevated in RCC tissues and cell lines, which was consistent with the analysis of the TCGA and Oncomine cancer database. The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated that high PLIN3 expression can distinguish cancer tissues from normal kidney tissues (area under the curve = 0.7270, P<0.0001). Kaplan-Meier curves revealed that elevated PLIN3 predicted poor disease-free survival and overall survival.
PLIN3 is highly expressed in kidney cancer, and high expression of PLIN3 can serve as a useful diagnostic and prognostic biomarker. PLIN3 functional inhibition can be used as a new clinical treatment option.
•PLIN3 serves as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker in ccRCC.•PLIN3 expression is up-regulated in ccRCC cells and tissues.•The expression of PLIN3 gradually increased with the escalation of ccRCC stage.
A series of water soluble octa-functionalized POSSs were facilely synthesized

The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is not adequate for predicting the all-cause survival of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The aim of this study was ...to establish a comprehensive nomogram for PDAC and compare its prognostic ability with that of the AJCC 8th edition staging system.
This study identified 5,097 patients with PDAC in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database between 2004 and 2016, and R software was used to divide them into training (n=3,567) and validation (n=1,530) cohorts. Multivariate Cox regression was used to select predictive variables. The concordance index (C-index), the area under the time-dependent receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC), the net reclassification improvement (NRI), the integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), calibration plotting, and decision-curve analysis (DCA) were used to compare the new survival model with the AJCC 8th edition prognosis model.
After performing a multivariate Cox regression analysis, data on the age at diagnosis, marital status, primary site, pathology grade, regional nodes examined, AJCC stage, surgery status, adjuvant radiotherapy status, and adjuvant chemotherapy status were entered into the model and used to establish the nomogram. The C-index for the nomogram (0.668 for the training cohort and 0.670 for the validation cohort) was higher than those for the AJCC staging system (0.590 and 0.578, respectively). The AUC, NRI, IDI, calibration plotting, and DCA showed that the nomogram performed better than the AJCC staging system.
We have developed and validated a prognosis nomogram as a predictive model for PDAC patients provides significantly improved predictive performance and is superior to the latest AJCC 8th edition staging system.
Background. We aimed to establish a prognostic model for gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) that was superior to traditional AJCC staging and to perform a comprehensive comparison of the newly ...established nomogram with the AJCC staging system. Methods. We extracted 2,076 patients with gingival squamous cell carcinoma who had been entered into the SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) database between 2004 and 2015, and randomly divided 70% of them into the training cohort and the other 30% into the validation cohort. Cox regression analysis was performed in combination with clinical experience and age, race, sex, marital status, tumor location, histological subtype, tumor grade, AJCC stage, chemotherapy status, radiotherapy status, and surgery status as possible prognostic factors. We evaluated and compared the two cohorts using the consistency index (C-index), area under the receiver operating characteristic curves, calibration curves, discriminant improvement index, and decision-curve analysis. Results. The Cox retrospective analysis showed that age, AJCC stage, tumor grade, histological subtype, radiotherapy status, and surgery status were significant factors to include in the new model of gingival squamous cell carcinoma. The other indicators were also better for the new model than for the AJCC staging system. Conclusion. We have developed and validated a nomogram for performing reliable gingival squamous cell carcinoma prognoses. The prognostic value of the nomogram is higher than that of the AJCC staging system. We expect that the inclusion of more-comprehensive and authoritative data (i.e., not just limited to residents of the United States) would also allow the construction of reliable nomograms for other populations.
For multihypothesis-based compressed video sensing schemes, the low accuracy of weight prediction and degradation of recovery quality for high-motion videos are open challenges. To solve this ...problem, this paper proposes a new multihypothesis prediction scheme. To efficiently get high-quality hypotheses, a new hypotheses acquiring method is proposed by building the search window based on the temporal and spatial correlation. To improve the accuracy of weight prediction, a residual transforming preprocessing for weight prediction is proposed. By converting the original hypotheses to residual hypotheses, the influence of quality fluctuation of hypotheses on the recovery quality is suppressed effectively. The sparsity and accuracy of the prediction model are improved efficiently. Simulation results show that a significant improvement in recovery quality is obtained in the proposed scheme compared to the state-of-the-art systems.
Gliomas are the most common primary brain malignancies and are associated with a poor prognosis. Here, we showed that the PDZ domain-containing protein membrane-associated guanylate kinase inverted 3 ...(MAGI3) was downregulated at the both mRNA and protein levels in human glioma samples. MAGI3 inhibited proliferation, migration, and cell cycle progression of glioma cells in its overexpression and knockdown studies. By using GST pull-down and co-immunoprecipitation assays, we found that MAGI3 bound to β-catenin through its PDZ domains and the PDZ-binding motif of β-catenin. MAGI3 overexpression inhibited β-catenin transcriptional activity via its interaction with β-catenin. Consistently, MAGI3 overexpression in glioma cells C6 suppressed expression of β-catenin target genes including Cyclin D1 and Axin2, whereas MAGI3 knockdown in glioma cells U373 and LN229 enhanced their expression. MAGI3 overexpression decreased growth of C6 subcutaneous tumors in mice, and inhibited expression of β-catenin target genes in xenograft tumors. Furthermore, analysis based on the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) glioma dataset showed association of MAGI3 expression with overall survival and tumor grade. Finally, we demonstrated negative correlation between MAGI3 expression and activity of Wnt/β-catenin signaling through GSEA of three public glioma datasets and immunohistochemical staining of clinical glioma samples. Taken together, these results identify MAGI3 as a novel tumor suppressor and provide insight into the pathogenesis of glioma.
