The gut microbiota has been linked to cardiovascular diseases. However, the composition and functional capacity of the gut microbiome in relation to cardiovascular diseases have not been ...systematically examined. Here, we perform a metagenome-wide association study on stools from 218 individuals with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ACVD) and 187 healthy controls. The ACVD gut microbiome deviates from the healthy status by increased abundance of Enterobacteriaceae and Streptococcus spp. and, functionally, in the potential for metabolism or transport of several molecules important for cardiovascular health. Although drug treatment represents a confounding factor, ACVD status, and not current drug use, is the major distinguishing feature in this cohort. We identify common themes by comparison with gut microbiome data associated with other cardiometabolic diseases (obesity and type 2 diabetes), with liver cirrhosis, and rheumatoid arthritis. Our data represent a comprehensive resource for further investigations on the role of the gut microbiome in promoting or preventing ACVD as well as other related diseases. The gut microbiota may play a role in cardiovascular diseases. Here, the authors perform a metagenome-wide association study on stools from individuals with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and healthy controls, identifying microbial strains and functions associated with the disease.
Our study aimed to determine how lncRNA DANCR, miR-320a, and CTNNB1 interact with each other and regulate osteogenic differentiation in osteoporosis. qRT-PCR and western blotting were performed to ...determine the expression of DANCR, miR-320a, CTNNB1, and the osteoporosis- or Wnt/β-catenin pathway-related markers T-cell factor 1 (TCF-1), runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin (OCN), and osteopontin (OPN). Interactions between CTNNB1, DANCR, and miR-320a were predicted by bioinformatics approaches and validated using a luciferase assay. Osteoblastic phenotypes were evaluated by ALP staining, ALP activity assay and Alizarin Red staining. The bilateral ovariectomy method was used to establish an in vivo osteoporosis model. Bone morphological changes were examined using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Alcian Blue staining. The expression levels of DANCR and miR-320a in BMSCs derived from osteoporosis patients were upregulated, whereas CTNNB1 expression was downregulated compared with that in healthy controls. Importantly, we demonstrated that miR-320a and DANCR acted independently from each other and both inhibited CTNNB1 expression, whereas the inhibitory effect was additive when miR-320a and DANCR were cooverexpressed. Moreover, we found that DANCR overexpression largely abrogated the effect of the miR-320a inhibitor on CTNNB1 expression and the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in BMSCs during osteogenic differentiation. We further confirmed the results above in BMSCs derived from an osteoporosis animal model. Taken together, our findings revealed that DANCR and miR-320a regulated the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway during osteogenic differentiation in osteoporosis through CTNNB1 inhibition. Our results highlight the potential value of DANCR and miR-320a as promising therapeutic targets for osteoporosis treatment.
We fabricated NiO nanorings on SiC, a novel hierarchical architecture, by a facile two-step method. The dielectric properties depend on temperature and frequency in the range from 373 to 773 K and X ...band. The imaginary part and loss tangent increase more than four times and three times with increasing temperature, respectively. The architecture demonstrates multirelaxation and possesses high-efficient absorption. The reflection loss exceeds −40 dB and the bandwidth covers 85% of X band (approximately −20 dB). The synergistic effect between multirelaxation and conductance is beneficial to the microwave absorption. Our findings provide a novel and feasible strategy to tune microwave absorption.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a worldwide autoimmune disease with high heritability, shows differences in prevalence, severity and age of onset among different ancestral groups. Previous ...genetic studies have focused more on European populations, which appear to be the least affected. Consequently, the genetic variations that underlie the commonalities, differences and treatment options in SLE among ancestral groups have not been well elucidated. To address this, we undertake a genome-wide association study, increasing the sample size of Chinese populations to the level of existing European studies. Thirty-eight novel SLE-associated loci and incomplete sharing of genetic architecture are identified. In addition to the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) region, nine disease loci show clear ancestral differences and implicate antibody production as a potential mechanism for differences in disease manifestation. Polygenic risk scores perform significantly better when trained on ancestry-matched data sets. These analyses help to reveal the genetic basis for disparities in SLE among ancestral groups.
Ideal electromagnetic attenuation material should not only shield the electromagnetic interference but also need strong absorption. Lightweight microwave absorber with thermal stability and high ...efficiency is a highly sought-after goal of researchers. Tuning microwave absorption to meet the harsh requirements of thermal environments has been a great challenge. Here, grape-like Fe3O4-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are synthesized, which have unique multiscale-assembled morphology, relatively uniform size, good crystallinity, high magnetization, and favorable superparamagnetism. The Fe3O4-MWCNTs is proven to be a smart microwave-absorber prototype with tunable high intensities in double belts in the temperature range of 323–473 K and X band. Maximum absorption in two absorbing belts can be simultaneously tuned from ∼−10 to ∼−15 dB and from ∼−16 to ∼−25 dB by varying temperature, respectively. The belt for reflection loss ≤−20 dB can almost cover the X band at 323 K. The tunable microwave absorption is attributed to effective impedance matching, benefiting from abundant interfacial polarizations and increased magnetic loss resulting from the grape-like Fe3O4 nanocrystals. Temperature adjusts the impedance matching by changing both the dielectric and magnetic loss. The special assembly of MWCNTs and magnetic loss nanocrystals provides an effective pathway to realize excellent absorbers at elevated temperature.
The Huajian gold deposit is one of the largest hydrothermal intrusion-related gold deposits in eastern Hebei Province, located in the northern margin of the North China Craton (NCC). The ...mineralization in this district displays a close spatial association with the shoshonitic Niuxinshan intrusive complex (NIC), which contributes to the characterization of the metallogeny associated with convergent margin magmatism. In the current study, new geochronological and geochemical data are combined with previously published isotopic data, obtained from the granitic rocks in the NIC, to constrain the timing of the district's tectonic setting transformation and determine its bearing on regional metallogeny. The new geochronological data constrain the timing of the tectonic transformation between 155 and 185 Ma. The NIC's granitic rocks can be geochemically subdivided into two groups. One group's geochemical signature exhibits steep rare earth element (REE) patterns with negligible Eu anomalies, lower Yb, higher Sr, and negative Nb-Ta-Ti (NTT) anomalies, which indicate a volcanic-arc environment with a thickened crust in a convergent setting. The other group exhibits flat REE patterns with obvious negative Eu anomalies, higher Yb, lower Sr, and weak NTT anomalies, which indicate an intra-plate extensional environment with a thinning crust. Combining geochronologic and isotopic data, the mineralization is Late Jurassic (~155 Ma). This is interpreted to be genetically related to the crystallization of the shallow crustal-sourced portions of this complex. Additionally, a tectonic model is presented that provides a plausible explanation for the abundant polymetallic mineralization that occurs in the northern margin of the NCC after 155 Ma.

Abstract
With the rapid development of UAV-related directions, intelligent UAVs have been applied to various industries of modern production and life. One particularly popular application is ...“delivery UAV.” By giving commands to the UAV, It can accomplish complex tasks such as target point flight and cargo delivery autonomously. On the one hand, human resources can be liberated; on the other hand, fully automated operations can greatly improve production efficiency. Our team used STM32 produced by Stmicroelectronics as the main control of the UAV, OpenMV from SingTown Technology, and K210 from Canaan Technology as the vision processor to design and develop a delivery quadrotor. The UAV uses an optical flow module to achieve hover and cruise and is equipped with a laser ranging module to assist the UAV in obtaining height. K210 and OpenMV are used for target detection, and the Hanging basket can be raised and lowered to simulate “delivery.” The UAV can realize automatic cruise, target-point “delivery,” target detection, obstacle avoidance, and many other functions.
The BCR-ABL kinase inhibitor, imatinib mesylate, is the front-line treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia, but the emergence of imatinib resistance has led to the search for alternative drug ...treatments. There is a pressing need, therefore, to develop and test novel drugs. Natural products including plants, microorganisms, and halobios provide rich resources for discovery of anticancer drugs. In this article, we demonstrate that emodin inhibited the growth of K562 cells harboring BCR-ABL in vitro and in vivo, and induced abundant apoptosis, which was correlated with the inhibition of PETN/PI3K/Akt level and deletion of BCR-ABL. These findings suggest that emodin is a promising agent to kill K562 cells harboring BCR-ABL.
Carvedilol, a nonselective β-adrenoreceptor antagonist, protects against myocardial injury induced by acute myocardium infarction (AMI). The mechanisms underlying the anti-fibrotic effects of ...carvedilol are unknown. Recent studies have revealed the critical role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in a variety of cardiovascular diseases. This study investigated whether miR-29b is involved in the cardioprotective effect of carvedilol against AMI-induced myocardial fibrosis. Male SD rats were randomized into several groups: the sham surgery control, left anterior descending (LAD) surgery-AMI model, AMI plus low-dose carvedilol treatment (1 mg/kg per day, CAR-L), AMI plus medium-dose carvedilol treatment (5 mg/kg per day, CAR-M) and AMI plus high-dose carvedilol treatment (10 mg/kg per day, CAR-H). Cardiac remodeling and impaired heart function were observed 4 weeks after LAD surgery treatment; the observed cardiac remodeling, decreased ejection fraction, and fractional shortening were rescued in the CAR-M and CAR-H groups. The upregulated expression of Col1a1, Col3a1, and α-SMA mRNA was significantly reduced in the CAR-M and CAR-H groups. Moreover, the downregulated miR-29b was elevated in the CAR-M and CAR-H groups. The in vitro study showed that Col1a1, Col3a1, and α-SMA were downregulated and miR-29b was upregulated by carvedilol in a dose-dependent manner in rat cardiac fibroblasts. Inhibition of ROS-induced Smad3 activation by carvedilol resulted in downregulation of Col1a1, Col3a1, and α-SMA and upregulation of miR-29b derived from the miR-29b-2 precursor. Enforced expression of miR-29b significantly suppressed Col1a1, Col3a1, and α-SMA expression. Taken together, we found that smad3 inactivation and miR-29b upregulation contributed to the cardioprotective activity of carvedilol against AMI-induced myocardial fibrosis.
Cadmium (Cd) contamination of rice is a serious food safety issue that has recently been gaining significant public attention. Therefore, reduction of Cd accumulation in rice grains is an important ...objective of rice breeding. The use of favourable alleles of Cd accumulating genes using marker-assisted selection (MAS) is theoretically feasible. In this study, we validated a segment covering OsHMA3-OsNramp5-OsNramp1 on chromosome 7 of japonica for establishing low-cadmium accumulating indica rice variety. The OsHMA3-OsNramp5-OsNramp1
haplotype significantly decreased grain Cd concentration in middle-season indica genetic background. The improved 9311 carrying the OsHMA3-OsNramp5-OsNramp1
haplotype with recurrent parent genome recovery of up to 91.6% resulted in approximately 31.8% decrease in Cd accumulation in the grain and with no penalty on yield. There is a genetic linkage-drag between OsHMA3-OsNramp5-OsNramp1
and the gene conditioning heading to days (HTD) in the early-season indica genetic background. Because the OsHMA3-OsNramp5-OsNramp1-Ghd7
haplotype significantly increases grain Cd concentration and prolongs growth duration, the linkage-drag between OsHMA3-OsNramp5-OsNramp1 and Ghd7 should be broken down by large segregating populations or gene editing. A novel allele of OsHMA3 was identified from a wide-compatibility japonica cultivar, the expression differences of OsNramp1 and OsNramp5 in roots might contribute the Cd accumulating variation between japonica and indica variety.
