An accurate, simple, and practical numerical method for exact calculation of harmonics/interharmonics using adaptive window width is presented in this paper. The proposed method adaptively adjusts ...the window width based on correlation calculation, thus completely eliminating or significantly reducing the unacceptable spectral leakage errors in the frequency domain caused by truncation of the time-domain signal. The iterative algorithm does not require any knowledge about the system frequency and the interharmonic constituents; the only parameter needed is the signal sequence obtained by sampling the analog signal at equidistant sampling interval. Various case studies using simulation data, experimental data and the real world data show that the adaptive algorithm provides an ideal numerical solution to the problem of spectral leakage encountered in harmonics and interharmonics detection and analysis.
COX-2 is a major regulator in colorectal inflammation and cancer. Herein, we first report that primary cancer-associated colonic fibroblasts activated by HGF play a critical role in mediation of ...proliferation and invasiveness of human colonic epithelial cancer cells. We have discovered that the proliferation and invasiveness of colonic epithelial cancer cells are predominantly enhanced through activation of PKC-cMET-ERK1/2-COX-2 signaling by HGF in the co-cultured cancer-associated fibroblasts. This conclusion is supported by the fact, that a selective PKC inhibitor, BIM, inhibits ERK1/2 and COX-2 signalings, MEK/ERK1/2 inhibitor, PD98059, nullifies COX-2 signaling, and COX-2 inhibitor, NS-398, attenuates the proliferation and invasiveness potential of the colonic cancer cells. We have concluded that HCF-activated cancer associated fibroblasts play a critical role in carcinogenesis of colonic cancer.
•Colonic fibroblasts interact with colonic epithelia.•Colonic fibroblasts activated by HGF medicate proliferation of colonic cancer cells.•Colonic fibroblasts activated by HGF medicate invasiveness of colonic cancer cells.•The mediation is via PKC-cMET-ERK1/2-COX-2 signaling in the fibroblasts.
Abstract Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell disorder accounting for approximately 10% of hematologic malignancies. There is limited epidemiological evidence regarding the long-term trends and ...disparities in MM in the US. We conducted a multiple time point cross-sectional study using MM incidence rate data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and mortality data from the CDC Wide-Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research (CDC WONDER) Underlying Cause of Death database between 1999 and 2020. During this period, MM incidence has steadily increased, while MM mortality has steadily decreased, with substantial racial and ethnic disparities. Non-Hispanic Black individuals exhibited the highest incidence rates, which consistently rose from 12.02 (95% CI 10.54, 13.64) in 1999 to 14.20 (95% CI 12.93, 15.55) per 100,000 population by 2020. Non-Hispanic American Indian/Native Alaskans and Asian/Pacific Islanders demonstrated the lowest incidence rates of 5.59 (95% CI 2.69, 10.04) and 3.56 (95% CI 2.94, 4.27) per 100,000 population in 1999 to 5.76 (95% CI 3.49, 8.90) and 3.92 (95% CI 3.46, 4.42) per 100,000 population, respectively, by 2020. Disparities by gender, age, US census region, and rurality were observed, underscoring the importance of targeted, equity-centered interventions and MM screening initiatives for at-risk populations.
Microstructures and mechanical properties of equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) processed and naturally aged ultrafine grained (UFG) and coarse grained (CG) 7075 Al alloys as well as their ...evolutions during annealing were investigated. After the same natural aging, the tensile yield strength, ultimate strength, and microhardness of the UFG samples were 103%, 35%, and 48% higher, respectively, than those of the CG samples, because of higher densities of Guinier–Preston (G–P) zones and dislocations in the UFG sample. Upon annealing, the microhardness of the UFG sample decreased gradually, while a hardening peak appeared for the CG sample. The peak was caused by the precipitation hardening of the metastable η
′ phase. For the UFG sample, the precipitation hardening was overcompensated by the significant decrease of microstrain (dislocation density) upon annealing, resulting in a lack of precipitation hardening peak. Differential scanning calorimetry indicates that the ECAP process only accelerated the phase precipitations, but did not change the sequence of phase precipitation. This study shows that severe plastic deformation has the potential to significantly improve the mechanical properties of age-hardening Al alloys.
Measurements of ambient OH and HO2 radicals were performed by laser induced fluorescence (LIF) during CAREBeijing2006 (Campaigns of Air Quality Research in Beijing and Surrounding Region 2006) at the ...suburban site Yufa in the south of Beijing in summer 2006. On most days, local air chemistry was influenced by aged air pollution that was advected by a slow, almost stagnant wind from southern regions. Observed daily concentration maxima were in the range of (4-17) × 106 cm-3 for OH and (2-24) × 108 cm-3 for HO2 (including an estimated interference of 25% from RO2 ). During daytime, OH reactivities were generally high (10-30 s-1 ) and mainly contributed by observed VOCs and their calculated oxidation products. The comparison of modelled and measured HOx concentrations reveals a systematic underprediction of OH as a function of NO. A large discrepancy of a factor 2.6 is found at the lowest NO concentration encountered (0.1 ppb), whereas the discrepancy becomes insignificant above 1 ppb NO. This study extends similar observations from the Pearl-River Delta (PRD) in South China to a more urban environment. The OH discrepancy at Yufa can be resolved, if NO-independent additional OH recycling is assumed in the model. The postulated Leuven Isoprene Mechanism (LIM) has the potential to explain the gap between modelled and measured OH at Beijing taking into account conservative error estimates, but lacks experimental confirmation. This and the hereby unresolved discrepancy at PRD suggest that other VOCs besides isoprene might be involved in the required, additional OH recycling. Fast primary production of ROx radicals up to 7 ppb h-1 was determined at Beijing which was dominated by the photolysis of O3 , HONO, HCHO, and dicarbonyls. For a special case, 20 August, when the plume of Beijing city was encountered, a missing primary HOx source (about 3 ppb h-1 ) was determined under high NOx conditions similar to other urban areas like Mexico City. CAREBeijing2006 emphasizes the important role of OVOCs as a radical source and sink, and the need for further investigation of the chemical degradation of VOCs in order to better understand radical chemistry in VOC-rich air.
The most important feature of SPD processing is that it leads to exceptional grain refinement and thereby provides an opportunity to significantly enhance the properties of materials as well as to ...attain novel and/or unique properties.
Repeated applications of mineral and/or organic fertilizer will probably affect gross nitrogen (N) dynamics in soils in the long term but only a limited number of observations are available. Here we ...present results of a 15N tracing study with soil from the various fertilizer treatments of the Huang‐Huai‐Hai Plain experiment that has been in operation for more than 17 years. Mineral fertilizer in various combinations of N, phosphorus (P) and potassium (K), organic manure (OM) or a mixture of mineral fertilizer and manure had been repeatedly applied for 17 years. The gross N transformation rates were quantified with a 15N tracing model, which uses a parameter optimization routine based on Bayesian principles. Mineralization of soil organic matter was at least 2.7 times greater in all fertilizer treatments compared with the untreated control (0.67 µg N g−1 day−1). While application of mineral N enhanced mineralization from recalcitrant organic N, the application of organic fertilizers stimulated the mineralization of labile organic N. Gross nitrate (NO3−) production solely resulted from ammonium (NH4+) oxidation. Compared with the gross NO3− production in the control treatment (2.22 µg N g−1 day−1), long‐term N applications stimulated gross nitrification by more than 5.3 times. The largest gaseous N emissions were associated with the organic manure treatments. The ratio of gross NO3− production to total mineral N consumption, a ratio proposed previously to determine potential NO3− loss, was a good indicator except for the treatment without N application. This ratio increased from 0.8 in the control to 2.7 in the mixture of mineral fertilizer and manure treatment. The largest gaseous N emissions (N2O + NO) (P < 0.05) were generally found at greater ratios. Results clearly showed that various fertilizers have a differential effect on N dynamics and potential gaseous N losses in the long term.
In our study, we aimed to reveal potential long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) biomarkers in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) using lncRNA-mediated competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) network (LMCN). Competing ...lncRNA-mRNA interactions were identified using the hypergeometric test. Co-expression analysis for the competing lncRNA-mRNA interactions was implemented, and relying on the weight value >0.8, a highly competitive LMCN was further constructed. Degree distribution, betweenness and closeness for LMCN were carried out to analyze the network structure. Functional analyses of mRNAs in LMCN were carried out to further explore the biological functions of lncRNAs. Biclique algorithm was utilized to extract competing modules from the LMCN. Finally, we verified our findings in an independent sample set using qRT-PCR. Based on degrees >60, we identified 4 hubs, including DLEU2, SNHG12, HCP5, and LINC00472. Furthermore, 2 competing modules were identified, and LINC00472 in module 1 functioned as a hub in both LMCN and module. Functional implications of lncRNAs demonstrated that lncRNAs were related to histone modification, negative regulation of cell cycle, neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, and regulation of actin cytoskeleton. qRT-PCR results demonstrated that lncRNAs LINC00472, and HCP5 were down-regulated in LAD tissues, while the expression level of SNHG12 was up-regulated in LAD tissues. Our study sheds novel light on the roles of lncRNA-related ceRNA network in LAD and facilitates the detection of potential lncRNA biomarkers for LAD diagnosis and treatment. Remarkably, in our study, LINC00472, HCP5, and SNHG12 might be potential biomarkers for LAD management.
