A capable one-step method, femtosecond laser ablation of solids in liquids, was successfully applied to prepare lithium metal nanoparticles to mitigate the initial capacity loss and improve the ...electrochemical performance of a graphite-based electrode as a Li-host anode. Remarkably, according to the physicochemical characterization, this advanced optical method allowed to obtain uniform spheroidal and crystalline Li nanoparticles with an average particle size <20 nm. These novel ultrafine Li nanoparticles significantly decrease the initial capacity loss of a graphite-based anode, leading to reach high coulombic efficiency (>99 %), good specific charge capacity (322 mAh/g), and superior capacity retention (96 %) at an applied current density of 100 mA g
after 200 cycles.
Entangled two-photon absorption (ETPA) has recently become a topic of lively debate, mainly due to the apparent inconsistencies in the experimentally reported ETPA cross sections of organic molecules ...obtained by a number of groups. In this work, we provide a thorough experimental study of ETPA in the organic molecules Rhodamine B (RhB) and zinc tetraphenylporphirin (ZnTPP). Our contribution is 3-fold: first, we reproduce previous results from other groups; second, we on the one hand determine the effects of different temporal correlationsintroduced as a controllable temporal delay between the signal and idler photons to be absorbedon the strength of the ETPA signal, and on the other hand, we introduce two concurrent and equivalent detection systems with and without the sample in place as a useful experimental check; third, we introduce, and apply to our data, a novel method to quantify the ETPA rate based on taking into account the full photon-pair behavior rather than focusing on singles or coincidence counts independently. Through this experimental setup we find that, surprisingly, the purported ETPA signal is not suppressed for a temporal delay much greater than the characteristic photon-pair temporal correlation time. While our results reproduce the previous findings from other authors, our full analysis indicates that the signal observed is not actually due to ETPA but simply to linear losses. Interestingly, for higher RhB concentrations, we find a two-photon signal that, contrary to expectations, likewise does not correspond to ETPA.
Aims
The objective of this study was to obtain a phenotypic and genotypic profile of Salmonella enterica including multidrug‐resistant (MDR) isolates from food‐producing animals and clinical ...isolates, as well as their genetic relatedness in two different States of Mexico (Jalisco and State of Mexico).
Methods and Results
A total of 243 isolates were evaluated in terms of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and related genes through a disk diffusion method and PCR respectively; we found 16 MDR isolates, all of them harbouring the blaCMY gene but not qnr genes, these isolates represent less than 10% of the collection. The pulsed‐field gel electrophoresis revealed a higher genotypic similitude within isolates of State of Mexico than Jalisco.
Conclusions
A low percentage of Salmonella isolates were resistant to relevant antibiotics in human health, nevertheless, the AMR and involved genes were similar despite the different serovars and origin of the isolates.
Significance and Impact of the Study
This investigation provided an insight of the current status of AMR of Salmonella isolates in two States of Mexico and pinpoint the genes involved in AMR and their epidemiological relationship, the information could help to determine an adequate therapy in human and veterinary medicine.
This work presents the hydrothermal synthesis of Dandelion flower-like bimetallic oxide for the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT). The synthesized oxide and respective activated ...catalysts were characterized by Fourier transform infrared- attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy, nitrogen physisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanned electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The oxide sample exhibited a flower-like core-shell structure (TEM) and suitable BET surface area for the intended application, (133.4 m2.g−1). The FTIR-ATR analysis confirmed the decomposition of the organic precursor in the synthesized catalyst. Two activation methods were followed for the oxide sample sulfidation, namely, in-situ high-pressure sulfidation and ex-situ low-pressure sulfidation. Also, the TEM micrographs of sulfided catalysts showed that the core-shell structure prevailed. The HDS of DBT activity results showed that catalyst sulfided under high-pressure resulted in enhanced activity, 2.4 times than the low-pressure sulfided catalyst, owing to the high degree of sulfidation (XPS) and the presence of short/curved MoS2 slabs (XRD & TEM). The activity of the df-NiMo catalyst was compared with the trimetallic NiYMo catalyst.

ABSTRACT
The near-Earth objects with low-Jovian Tisserand invariant (TJ) represent about 9 per cent of the known objects orbiting in the near-Earth space, being subject of numerous planetary ...encounters and large temperature variations. We aim to make a spectral characterization for a large sample of NEOs with TJ ≤ 3.1. Consequently, we can estimate the fraction of bodies with a cometary origin. We report new spectral observations for 26 low-TJ NEOs. The additional spectra, retrieved from different public data bases, allowed us to perform the analysis over a catalogue of 150 objects. We classified them with respect to Bus-DeMeo taxonomic system. The results are discussed regarding their orbital parameters. The taxonomic distribution of low-TJ NEOs differs from the entire NEOs population. Consequently, TJ ∼ 3 can act as a composition border too. We found that 56.2 per cent of low-TJ NEOs have comet-like spectra and they become abundant (79.7 per cent) for TJ ≤ 2.8. 16 D-type objects have been identified in this population, distributed on orbits with an average TJ = 2.65 ± 0.6. Using two dynamical criteria, together with the comet-like spectral classification as an identification method and by applying an observational bias correction, we estimate that the fraction of NEOs with a cometary nature and H ∈ (14, 21) mag has the lower and upper bounds (1.5 ± 0.15) and (10.4 ± 2.2) per cent. Additionally, our observations show that all extreme cases of low-perihelion asteroids (q ≤ 0.3 au) belong to S-complex.
ABSTRACT
Potentially hazardous asteroids (PHAs) are objects that can have close encounters with Earth and are significantly large to cause significant regional damage in the event of impact. The ...mitigation strategy requires to understand their physical properties. We aim to investigate the physical nature of PHAs, using data obtained within the framework of the Visible NEOs Observations Survey (ViNOS). We analysed and characterized a sample comprised of 14 of these objects. To conduct this study, we obtained visible spectra of 14 PHAs in the 0.5–0.9-μm region using the 2.5 m Nordic Optical Telescope, located at the El Roque De Los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma (Spain). The resulting spectra were combined with their corresponding near-infrared counterparts, available in the literature from the Small Main-Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey (SMASS). We performed a taxonomical classification, computed several diagnostic spectral parameters (slopes, band centres, and band area ratios), and provide completely new mineralogical information for 10 of these objects. We also compared the data with laboratory spectra of meteorites from the RELAB data base. Among the studied sample of PHAs, approximately 90 per cent of the objects (13 out of 14) were classified as silicaceous (S-types and subclasses). Only one object, 489 486, was classified as carbonaceous. Five of the studied PHAs did not have previous taxonomic classifications. The comparisons of the silicaceous PHAs with meteoritic spectra yielded, in all cases, ordinary chondrites as the best match for meteoritic analogues. The computed mineralogy of all of our targets is also consistent with this results.

Context. Centaurs go around the Sun between the orbits of Jupiter and Neptune. Only a fraction of the known centaurs have been found to display comet-like features. Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 ...is the most remarkable active centaur. It orbits the Sun just beyond Jupiter in a nearly circular path. Only a handful of known objects follow similar trajectories. Aims. We present photometric observations of 2020 MK4, a recently found centaur with an orbit not too different from that of 29P, and we perform a preliminary exploration of its dynamical evolution. Methods. We analyzed broadband Cousins R and Sloan g′, r′, and i′ images of 2020 MK4 acquired with the Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope and the IAC80 telescope to search for cometary-like activity and to derive its surface colors and size. Its orbital evolution was studied using direct N-body simulations. Results. Centaur 2020 MK4 is neutral-gray in color and has a faint, compact cometary-like coma. The values of its color indexes, (g′− r′) = 0.42 ± 0.04 and (r′− i′) = 0.17 ± 0.04, are similar to the solar ones. A lower limit for the absolute magnitude of the nucleus is Hg = 11.30 ± 0.03 mag which, for an albedo in the range of 0.1–0.04, gives an upper limit for its size in the interval (23, 37) km. Its orbital evolution is very chaotic and 2020 MK4 may be ejected from the Solar System during the next 200 kyr. Comet 29P experienced relatively close flybys with 2020 MK4 in the past, sometimes when they were temporary Jovian satellites. Conclusions. Based on the analysis of visible CCD images of 2020 MK4, we confirm the presence of a coma of material around a central nucleus. Its surface colors place this centaur among the most extreme members of the gray group. Although the past, present, and future dynamical evolution of 2020 MK4 resembles that of 29P, more data are required to confirm or reject a possible connection between the two objects and perhaps others.

Pocillopora corals are the main reef builders in the eastern tropical Pacific. The validity of Pocillopora morphospecies remains under debate because of disagreements between morphological and ...genetic data. To evaluate the temporal stability of morphospecies in situ, we monitored the shapes of individual colonies in three communities in the southern Gulf of California for 44 months. Twenty-three percent of tagged colonies of Pocillopora damicornis changed to Pocillopora inflata morphology during this time. This switch in identity coincided with a shift to a higher frequency of storms and lower water turbidity (i.e., lower chlorophyll a levels). Seven months after the switch, P. inflata colonies were recovering their original P. damicornis morphology. All colonies of both morphospecies shared a common mitochondrial identity, but most P. damicornis colonies undergoing change were at a site with low-flow conditions. This is the first in situ study to document switching between described morphospecies, and it elucidates the influence of temporal shifts in environmental conditions on morphologically plastic responses.
Aims. In this paper we establish a compositional and dynamical connection between two B-type objects: main belt asteroid (2) Pallas and near-Earth asteroid (3200) Phaethon. The final purpose is to ...help understand the origin of this very interesting object. Methods. We first compare visible and near-infrared spectra of asteroids Phaethon and Pallas. We then compare the reflectance spectra of Phaethon with all the available visible spectra of B-type asteroids belonging to the Pallas family. One last spectral comparison is then performed to search for any correspondence between Phaethon and any B-type asteroid in the main belt. Numerical simulations are also carried out to explore the dynamical connection between the orbital neighborhoods of Pallas and Phaethon. Results. Main differences between Phaethon and Pallas lie in the visible wavelength part of their reflectance spectra. We have also found that the nine asteroids belonging to the Pallas family have visible spectra that are different from that of Pallas and strikingly similar to that of Phaethon. Spectral comparison excludes any other B-type asteroid in the main belt as a possible parent body of Phaethon. Numerical simulations establish a dynamical pathway that connects Phaethon with Pallas and its family members. Conclusions. The spectral similarities between Phaethon and Pallas family members, together with their established dynamical connection, supports Pallas as the most likely parent body of Phaethon and therefore, the associated Geminids meteor stream. We suggest that differences in asteroid sizes are the most likely explanation for the differences in the visible reflectance spectra between Phaethon and Pallas.
Context. The Arjuna asteroid belt is loosely defined as a diverse group of small asteroids that follow dynamically cold, Earth-like orbits. Most of them are not actively engaged in resonant, ...co-orbital behavior with Earth. Some of them experience temporary but recurrent horseshoe episodes. Objects in horseshoe paths tend to approach Earth at a low velocity, leading to captures as Earth’s temporary satellites or mini-moons. Four such objects have already been identified: 1991 VG, 2006 RH120, 2020 CD3, and 2022 NX1. Here, we focus on 2023 FY3, a recent finding, the trajectory of which might have a co-orbital status and perhaps lead to temporary captures. Aims. We want to determine the physical properties of 2023 FY3 and explore its dynamical evolution. Methods. We carried out an observational study of 2023 FY3 using the OSIRIS camera spectrograph at the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias, to derive its spectral class, and time-series photometry obtained with QHY411M cameras and two units of the Two-meter Twin Telescope to investigate its rotational state. N-body simulations were also performed to examine its possible resonant behavior. Results. The visible reflectance spectrum of 2023 FY3 is consistent with that of an S-type asteroid; its light curve gives a rotation period of 9.3±0.6 min, with an amplitude of 0.48±0.13 mag. We confirm that 2023 FY3 roams the edge of Earth’s co-orbital space. Conclusions. Arjuna 2023 FY3, an S-type asteroid and fast rotator, currently exhibits horseshoe-like resonant behavior and in the past experienced mini-moon engagements of the temporarily captured flyby type that may repeat in the future. The spectral type result further confirms that mini-moons are a diverse population in terms of surface composition.
