Bile leakage is a common complication following liver surgeries, particularly in the cases of liver hydatid cyst operations. Currently, there is no adequate method which could be utilized to prevent ...this complication effectively. Our study aimed to assess the efficacy of the biliary lipid test (BLT) in reducing biliary complications after hydatid cyst surgery. We retrospectively included patients who underwent open liver hydatid cyst surgery between January 2011 and January 2024. The study encompassed 122 patients, with 41 males and 81 females, ranging in age from 18 to 79 years. In the BLT group, a lipid solution was injected transcystically after cholecystectomy. The BLT was performed on 65 patients, while 57 patients did not undergo the test. Following the transcystic injection of the lipid solution, orifices at the site of lipid droplets that became visible were ligated with 5.0 prolene sutures. A total of 200 leak sites were sutured. Remarkably, none of the patients in the BLT group experienced postoperative bile leakage lasting longer than one week. Consequently, a shorter hospital stay was observed in this group. Transcystic injection of the lipid solution with distal clamping effectively demonstrated leak sites, and suturing these sites prevented postoperative bile leakage. Our study demonstrates the effectiveness of the LIpid test in LIver Hydatid Cyst Surgery (Lili-Hics) in reducing biliary complications following hydatid cyst surgery.

Günümüzde bilateralsenkron meme kanseri her iki tümör ayrı primer kabul edilerek tedavi edilmekte ve en sık uygulanan cerrahi prosedür bilateralmodifiye radikal mastektomidir.Olgumuzda 39 yaşında sağ memede invazivlobülerkarsinom tanısı konulan hastada evreleme ve uzak metastaz taraması amaçıyla yapılan PET-CT’de sol memede insidentalmalinite şüpheli lezyon saptanan ve bu lezyondan alınan biyopsi invazivduktalkarsinom olarak raporlanan hastaya sağ modifiye radikal mastektomi, sol memeye meme koruyucu cerrahi ve sol aksillersentineal lenf nodu örneklemesi uygulandı.
Herniation of the urinary bladder into the inguinal canal is rare. It constitutes 1-3% of all inguinal hernias. Bladder herniation is usually asymptomatic, and it is usually diagnosed during surgery ...or as a result of intra-operative bladder injury. Male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms or with a history of previous hernia surgery are at increased risk of bladder herniation. Typically, patients complain of inguinal or scrotal swelling, dysuria and shrinkage of scrotal swelling after voiding. Early diagnosis with radiological imaging is important to prevent complications during surgery. Intravenous pyelography, retrograde cystography, pelvic ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging can be used for preoperative diagnosis. In this report, a patient is presented who presented to our clinic with scrotal swelling and was diagnosed with scrotal bladder herniation by retrograde cystography, taken due to clinical suspicion based on his history.
The most frequent postoperative complication after breast surgery is seroma formation. Seroma occurs due to lymphatic and vascular fluid leakage into the dead space created by surgical dissection.
...The objective of the research was to evaluate the effects of local fibrin glue, tetracycline, talc applications, and flap fixation technique on reducing seroma formation after mastectomy and axillary dissection. In addition, we aimed to determine the level of efficacy for these applications, as well as to identify the most appropriate method to be used in operations with high risk of seroma formation.
Materials and Methods. This experimental study was conducted using a total of 60 female Wistar albino rats. They were allocated into six groups and each comprised ten rats. Unilateral mastectomy and axillary dissection were performed on all the rats. Local applications of fibrin glue, tetracycline, talc, and alcoholic iodine were performed in four separate groups. Flap fixation technique was applied in one group and those rats that did not receive any intervention constituted the control group. On the 10th postoperative day, seroma was aspirated under anesthesia, and the amount of seroma fluid was recorded. Seroma fluid was analyzed for interleukin 1-β, vascular endothelial growth factor, and C-reactive protein levels. Tissue samples were obtained from the skin overlaying the dissection area, the axilla, and the thoracic wall. Wound healing was evaluated with histopathological examination.
Results. Seroma volume was lower and the wound healing scores were the highest in the flap fixation group and the tetracycline group as compared to the control group. However, the alcoholic iodine group and the talc group had a greater amount of seroma (p < 0.05). There was no difference between the fibrin glue group and the control group.
Conclusions. In our mastectomy model, local application of alcoholic iodine and talc substances caused more wound site problems and postoperative seroma formation. While fibrin glue did not cause wound site problems, it did increase seroma formation. These three substances were determined to be inefficacious in postoperative seroma formation. Local tetracycline application and flap fixation technique were found to reduce postoperative seroma and benefit wound healing.

In this case we describe a rare cause of gastrointestinal system mass: extramedullary plasmacytoma involving the left colon.
Aim: To investigate the relationship between metabolic parameters and thyroid hormone changes which occur in patients treated with thyroid replacement therapy following total thyroidectomy. Material ...and Method: The study comprised 30 patients who underwent total thyroidectomy. Evaluations were made preoperatively and after 6 and 12 months postoperatively. Body mass index was calculated by recording height and weight of all patients, waist size was measured, arterial blood pressure was measured with a sphyngomanometer on the right arm after 10 mins of rest. Peripheral blood samples were taken after 12-hour fasting for the evaluation of low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein, total cholesterol, triglyceride, fasting glucose, fasting insulin, thyroid stimulating hormone, free T3, free T4, C-reactive protein, and haemoglobin A1c values.Results: In the postoperative 1-year follow-up, a significant increase was determined in total cholesterol, low-density protein and triglyceride levels, which are related to cardiovascular risk, but no significant change was determined in high density protein levels. In addition, a significant increase was determined in the postoperative trend of both systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressures compared to the preoperative values.Conclusion: Although euthyroid was achieved with follow-up of thyroid functions in the patients who underwent bilateral total thyroidectomy, it was found that there could be changes in metabolic parameters. Therefore, with close monitoring of the metabolic profile of these patients, it can be recommended that lifestyle changes are made when medical intervention is insufficient.
Amaç: Mide kanseri Avrupa'da kadınlarda ve erkeklerde görülme sıklığı açısından beşinci sırada yer almaktadır. Erkek kadın oranı ise 1.6:1 olarak belirlenmiştir. Mide kanseri, kansere bağlı ölümlerde ...ülkemizde erkeklerde ikinci, kadınlarda ise üçüncü sırada yer almaktadır. Mide kanserinin prognozu genellikle kötüdür. Bunun sebebi de tanıda gecikme ve tanı konan olguların ileri evrede olmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Genel Cerrahi Anabilim Dalı 1995 -2009 yılları arasında mide kanseri tanısı ile cerrahi işlem yapılan 204 olgu geriye dönük olarak incelendi. Bu olgulardan 131'ine küratif cerrahi rezeksiyon yapıldığı belirlendi. Olguların %80'i lokal ileri evre olgulardı (evre IIIa, IIIb ve IV). Olguların yaş, cinsiyet, başvuru semptomları, tümör lokalizasyonu, T, N, M, evre, tümör diferansiyasyonu, histolojik tipleri, tümör çapı, vasküler ve perinöral invazyon varlığı, yapılan cerrahi işlem, rezeksiyon tipi, diseksiyon tipi, diseke edilen toplam lenf nodu sayısı, metastatik lenf nodu varlığı, metastatik lenf nodu sayısı ve toplam lenf nodu sayısına oranı, komplikasyonlar, cerrahi mortalite, adjuvan kemoterapi, adjuvan radyoterapi ve diğer adjuvan tedavileri ve sağkalım süreleri belirlendi. Bu verilerin sağkalım üzerine etkileri lojistik regresyon analizi ile değerlendirildi. Sağkalım açısından 3 ve 5 yıllık sağkalım eğrileri Kaplan-Meier yöntemiyle çıkarıldı Bulgular: Küratif rezeksiyon ve diseksiyon yapılan 131 olguda morbidite %15.2, mortalite ise %7.6 idi. Evre ve metastatik lenf nodlarının toplam lenf nodu sayısına oranı sağkalım üzerinde en önemli faktörler olarak bulundu (p<0.05). Evrelere göre sağkalımda 5 yıllık sağkalım oranlarının evre Ia için %79.1, Ib için %78.3, II için %61.8, IIIa için %46, IIIb için %24.8 ve IV için %25.8 olduğu görüldü. Sonuç: Sonuç olarak olgularımızın çoğunun lokal ileri evre olgular olmasına karşın yapılan radikal cerrahi işlemlerden fayda gördüğü ve sağkalım oranlarının bu anlamda olumlu olduğunu söylemek mümkündür.
Genellikle zeka geriliği ve psikiyatrik bozukluğu olanlarda ratlanılan yabancı cisim yutma, sık görülen; fakat nadiren cerrahi müdahale gerektiren bir durumdur. Sıklıkla yutulan cisimlerin gayta ...yoluyla atılması ile sonlanmaktadır. Yutulan cismin sayısı, şekli, boyutu ve yutulma zamanı tedavi şeklini belirlemektedir. Acil kliniğimize başvurusundan 4 gün önce en büyüğü 6 cm'lik yaklaşık 80 tane çivi yutan 19 yaşındaki erkek hasta konservatif izlem amacıyla kliniğimize yatırıldı. Yazımızda iki günlük konservatif izlemden sonra intestinal obstrüksiyon gelişmesi üzerine operasyona alınan hastanın akıbeti sunulmuştur.
Amaç: Onkolojik hastalarda uzun süreli kemoterapi, total parenteral beslenme ve sıvı replasmanı amacıyla kullanılan ve total olarak yerleştirilebilen venöz kateterler, yaşam kalitesini artırırlar. ...Bununla birlikte, çok faydalı olmalarına rağmen bu kateterlerin yerleştirilmesinde ve idamesinde tromboz, enfeksiyon, perforasyon, pnömotoraks, kopma, yer değiştirme ve fistülizasyon gibi ciddi komplikasyonlar meydana gelebilir. Retrospektif çalışmamızın amacı, klinik deneyimlerimizi okuyucularla paylaşmak ve gelişen erken ve geç dönem komplikasyonları literatür eşliğinde değerlendirildi. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Şubat 2008-Aralık 2014 tarihleri arasında İzmir Bozyaka Eğitim Araştırma Hastanesi 3.Genel Cerrahi kliniğinde total implante edilebilir kalıcı venöz port katater takılan 130 kanser hastasına ait klinik ve demografik veriler retrospektif olarak incelendi. Bulgular: Toplam 130 hastaya kemoterapi amaçlı port kateter takıldı. Hastaların ortalama yaşı 54,1 yıl, 75'ü kadın 55'i ise erkekti. Bütün hastalarda malinite mevcuttu. Port kataterler hastalara kemoterapi amaçlı yerleştirildi. Komplikasyonlar olarak bir hastada pnömotoraks, bir hastada malpozisyon, 8 hastada port yerinde enfeksiyon, bir hastada cilt nekrozu, bir hastada da derin ven trombozu gelişti. Sonuç: Kalıcı venöz port kateter takılması için perkutan teknik ile santral venlerin kullanımı, deneyimli ellerde güvenle uygulanabilen, komplikasyon oranı düşük, başarı oranı yüksek ve hastalar için çok konforlu bir tekniktir.

Although it is mostly observed in childhood, swallowing foreign bodies causes morbidity and mortality of a high percentage in the adult age group. Swallowed foreign bodies can be both harmless as ...well as life-threatening. The number, shape, size, and time of the swallowed foreign body to get deposited in the specific location determines the type of treatment. Late diagnosis and treatment is an important problem that causes perforation and obstruction. In this article, we presented a 39-year-old male patient who swallowed his denture while sleeping.
