Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- A complete Post Medieval cast lead alloy circular unifaced token. The token has a raised design of the initials IK with pellets on ...the ends of the uprights and a small pellet between on one side, the other side is blank. It is 18.41 mm in diameter, 1.62 mm thick and weighs 2.8 grams.Lead tokens had a wide variety of uses and were made locally, they are therefore hard to date precisely but those with initials are generally thought to be Post Medieval in date, c.1500-1850 AD.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- An unusual and large copper-alloy end cap from a knife, measuring 17mm in length and 16mm in width. One end is cylindrical and has a ...transverse slot across it filled with the corroded iron of the knifes tang. The other terminal is spherical and decorated with three evenly spaced relief fan-shapes with longitudinal grooves running down them. This end cap is most likely to be 16th century in date.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- A complete but bent cast copper alloy dagger quillon (dagger guard) of early Post Medieval date, circa AD1500-1700. The central ...block is flat with a sub rectangular hole through which the tang would have projected. To one side is a frilled, or scallop shaped, sub rectangular guard. There are four transverse decorative grooves on one side. The reverse is plain. The quillon ends are sub circular in plan and curve away at right angles to the block. The surface is dark green with and even patina. Length: 73.83mm. Width: 31.84mm. Thickness: 9.28mm. Weight: 19.6g.A comparable example recorded under reference IOW-1169B4.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- Cast copper alloy rim fragment from a bowl or cooking vessel with an internally bevelled rim that is triangular in profile and flush ...with the upper edge of the vessel. The body of the vessel curves downwards slightly to suggest a reasonably deep straight-sided bowl or a deep straight-sided everted rim, as seen on cauldrons, and the curvature of the rim suggests a diameter of about 320 mm. The bevelled rim itself is 5mm thick which then tapers to the body which is 4 mm thick. There are patches of burnt organic material on the exterior of the fragment, and just underneath the rim on the interior, which suggests that the vessel was used for cooking.Ottaway and Rogers (2002) illustrate a similar fragment of a cooking vessel with an internally bevelled rim on page 2810, fig.1394, no.14197, which is dated from the mid 15th century to the early 17th century.Butler & Green (2003) illustrate cauldrons with internally bevelled rims on page 119, No.119, which is dated from the 17th century, and on page 142, no.145, which is dated to c.1500.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- A slightly damaged copper-alloy hooked tag of probable early post-medieval date. The hanger is largely missing, but the remainder is ...rectangular in section and it is probable that it would originally have been sub-rectangular in plan. The plate lies immediately below and is sub-circular. It takes the form of a flowerhead, with a recessed circular cell at the centre and eight surrounding petals, depicted through the use of recessed cells and a scalloped outer edge to the plate. The lower section of the object is unusual in that, instead of the traditional backwards-facing hook, it has a short lug, with moulded decoration around the edges and a small circular hole.It measures 31.1mm long by 16.7mm wide and 5.7mm thick. The weight is 6.59g.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication. Provider: - Institution: - Data provided by Europeana Collections- Post Medieval (c. 1500 to 1800) lead uniface token: The design consists of high-relief V's which radiate, in an irregular manor from ...the centre. The token is slightly bent, probably due to damage rather than intention. On the reverse the token has fine irregular cross-hatching/scratches. The surface is a light grey colour. The token measure 30.13mm diameter, 3.49mm thick, weighs 15.07g.Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as use as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. Those carrying initials are generally deemed to be Post Medieval in date (1500-1850AD), those which seem to mimic Medieval penny designs are deemed to be Medieval, the remainder which carry stylised designs remain difficult to date but the majority are probably Post Medieval in date c.1500-1800.- All metadata published by Europeana are available free of restriction under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication.
