Whether in high-tech, service, or traditional industries, the role of knowledge as a primary driver of development is being increasingly recognized. It is not clear, however, whether managerial ...approaches based on mindsets rooted in past practice are appropriate for, or capable of, fully realizing the potential value of knowledge within the firm and/or industry. At least three related issues stand in the way of full knowledge utilization: conceptualization and measurement of knowledge capital as a primary organizational asset, the integration of knowledge capital into the strategic management process, and the development of organizational forms and processes that facilitate the use and development of knowledge. While leading-edge firms are already wrestling with these issues, advances in theory and research are needed to help develop appropriate responses and provide frameworks that will help spread these new approaches. In doing so, advances may also be made that allow for the recognition of the central role of collaboration in the knowledge process.
A methodology (based on multi-dimensional scaling and mathematical statistics) is introduced that reduces the high dimensionality of "IC-differencing components" into a 3-D dimensional representation ...- the digital IC-landscape. Building and maintaining a digital IC-landscape supports systematically: pedagogical display of IC complexity, migration of IC-affecting knowledge, exploratory retrieval of high IC-efficiency, investment planning and forecasting. In this project, 11 companies - with a total of 20-64 "essential variables" and "free parameters" - have been analyzed and results of the study reported.
For quite a while the issues of knowledge management, innovation and performance measurement have been on the agenda of researchers and practitioners alike throughout the world. Not too long ago it ...was recognised that there are direct cause and effect relations between knowledge reuse and invention. The present paper therefore discusses the constituent elements of innovation from a knowledge perspective which have been identified in the context of a European Union co-sponsored research project. The six facts of the "innovation cube" are: reuse of existing knowledge; invention of new knowledge; exploitation (i.e. turning knowledge into value); stakeholders' contributions (to the innovation life cycle); the enabling ecology or operating context in which the innovation occurs; and the performance facet, i.e. the bottom line. A toolkit based on performance measurement thinking and implementation process for better management of the balance between reuse and invention in development environments is proposed and results from their deployment in three real-life case studies are discussed.
Are we already on our way towards another Economy beyond Knowledge Economy?
What kind of thinking development is supporting us for the Future of Intellectual Capital?
What kind of Intelligence is ...assisting us in the Navigation for Wealth, for Future Generations and how to learn to navigate with the unexpected and unknown?
It is evident that the drama during 2010 of ash clouds, flooding, and heat fire are very serious ecological signals. But we also have similar serious signals in our economy, especially the European economies

This paper reviews theories and concepts about how to increase the value of knowledge in an organization. It outlines developments in the area of advanced people and knowledge management networks by ...Meta4, an international software company that has developed a unique knowledge management platform called KnowNet (or Knowledge Network). The paper describes a knowledge management application of KnowNet and Web technology at Skandia. Skandia's system, known as KenNet, was developed as an IT-based knowledge network to enable organizations to utilize the knowledge and ideas of individuals. The KenNet was designed uniquely to augment the activity of Skandia's concept of "futurizing".
