Sprayed concrete is a versatile and economical method of placing concrete, used worldwide for a variety of applications. Early application techniques were based around the "dry process", in which a ...dry mix of sand and cement is placed in a pressurised chamber and mixed with water at the spraying nozzle. The "wet process" was later developed in which all the constituents of the mix are mixed prior to pumping by a different type of machine. Now referred to as "shotcrete", or "sprayed concrete", the flexibility of this material is apparent, as demonstrated by projects such as the Welford Viaduct, Berkshire; the Southbourne and Nutbourne railway station, Sussex; and the slalom course at the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham.
