The aim of the article is to outline key elements of the street children subculture in Makeevka, Ukraine, with an emphasis on the functions of a subculture and its manifestations of collectivity. The ...research was based on qualitative and quantitative data and was conducted from 2000 to 2009. Data analysis suggests that collectivity functions on three different levels: inner-group, group and supra-group levels and that the subculture of street children combines elements of a classical subculture with those of a neo-tribe.
In this article different variants of anthropological fieldwork are analysed and some of the most important conditions for each are presented and elaborated. Different variants of anthropological ...fieldwork are also analysed from the point of view of the location and dislocation of anthropological knowledge. Particular attention is paid to the variant of anthropological fieldwork where a non-West European anthropologist works on a West European field. Some consequences of this fieldwork practise for the future development of anthropology are discussed.
. In the text some questions about the genesis of radical nationalism on the former Yugoslav territory are discussed. The author's main thesis is that what happened during the outburst of nationalism ...was an alteration in the status of national identification, particularly in its relation to ‘supranational’ Yugoslav identification; that is, the eruption of radical nationalism was the result of reorganisation within an identification matrix. This thesis is first clarified by a short historical survey of the status of national identification before the outburst of nationalism, and secondly by an analysis of the main changes in the identification matrix during the outbreak of nationalism. Additionally, some of the main characteristics of political socialisation in the Yugoslav socialist state (especially the function of the value ‘brotherhood and unity’), as well as the possibility for future non‐conflictual relations between the nations of former socialist Yugoslavia are discussed.
The question of comparative results of the meanings of the hidden impacts of implicit political socialization vs those of explicit socialization within the family is addressed.
In my text I discuss a supra-ethnic identity as a point de capiton of multi-ethnic societies. My hypothesis is that a supra-ethnical identity as a point de caption plays a fundamental political role ...in the social and political integration of multi-ethnic societies. I present a basic theoretical model which shows how a supra-ethnic identity integrates different ethnic groups in a multi-ethnic society into a 'supra-ethnic group', which is the political subject in multi-ethnic societies. Some aspects of the relationship between ethnic identities and a supra-ethnic identity will be discussed to show how individuals in such situations synchronize their ethnic and supra -ethnic identities and how through such a synchronization conflicts between different ethnic groups in a specific society can be neutralized. I use in my text empirical material from ex-Yugoslavia. Adapted from the source document.
