It is noted that such an interdisciplinary perspective avoids ideological & political simplifications & extends the scope of study of events that cannot be adequately accounted for by models elaborated within individual disciplines. Sociology in Slovenia is examined as illustration, demonstrating its relationship to the socialist ideology, Marxism, historical geography, & other social sciences. The older Marxist sociology in Slovenia did not allow innovation in either methodology or interpretation. In recent years, many sociologists have spoken of a crisis in sociology that is due to a lack of theoretical precision. Specifically, they have yet to agree on a satisfactory definition of the scope ...of the discipline. As such, the development of sociological theory has suffered from stagnation. Some sociologists have sought to avoid these theoretical problems by concentrating on empirical matters; however, their findings lack the meaning that an adequate theoretical background would give them.
