A lo largo del siglo XX, en las estaciones de servicio se ensayaron soluciones arquitectónicas que no siempre se podrían afrontar en obras de mayor escala o compromiso. En los años cincuenta y ...sesenta, en las gasolineras se fue diferenciando la zona de repostaje de la de servicios, dando lugar a soluciones singulares de cubierta, apoyadas sobre soportes centrales independientes, a medio camino entre la escultura geométrica y el alarde estructural. Las obras de conocidos arquitectos internacionales fueron entonces las referencias buscadas por los arquitectos españoles. En el artículo se estudian casos representativos de las nuevas tipologías y su relación con estaciones similares foráneas. Los análisis gráficos comparativos permiten identificar semejanzas y diferencias, concluyendo que sus autores no se limitaron a transcribir literalmente tales referencias sino que reinterpretaron o adaptaron soluciones ajenas a las limitaciones de un país autárquico que todavía sufría las consecuencias de su Guerra Civil.

A partir de obras elaboradas por profissionais vinculados ao ITA ou a respeito deles, legislações, documentos administrativos e dados biográficos de membros desta Instituição verifica-se, com especial ênfase nas duas primeiras décadas de existência (1950 e 1960), a participação do Departamento de Matemática no cumprimento da missão antes descrita. A influência do ITA no desenvolvimento das ciências e educação é identificada no processo de estabelecer um formato inédito para o ensino de Engenharia no Brasil, baseado no modelo do Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). O programa de pós-graduação em Ciências é apresentado, desde suas origens até seu estabelecimento.Em sínteses biográficas, é delineado o perfil dos profissionais que atuaram nas disciplinas de Matemática, participantes de eventos de caráter acadêmico ou científico, autores de obras matemáticas e responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento da Matemática no ITA e, consequentemente no país.
Abstrak Artikel ini dimaksudkan sebagai usaha merekonstruksi sejarah pemikiran dari seorang sosok politikus terkenal yang lembut, tegas, dan islami, yakni Mochammad Natsir. Pemikirannya tentang ...pendidikan adalah sebagai perjuangannya dalam memperhatikan nasib rakyat Indonesia, terutama ummat Islam. Tulisan ini hanya menyoroti Pemikiran Mochammad Natsir tentang pendidikan, pemikirannya ini selain lewat dakwah, berpolitik, juga lewat tulisan-tulisan baik berupa buku, atau pemberitaan-pemberitaan dan artikel-artikel dalam surat kabar, terutama harian Abadi, yaitu surat kabar harian milik Partai Islam Masyumi. Dengan menganalisa artikel dan pemberitaan yang terdapat dalam surat kabar harian Abadi milik Partai Masyumi antara tahun 1950-1960 tentang konsep pendididkan Islam dari Mochammad Natsir. Sebagai pemimpin politik Islam, Mochammad Natsir secara maksimal telah memberikan seluruh tenaga dan pikirannya demi kepentingan ummat Islam di Indonesia dan seluruh bangsa Indonesia. Mochammad Natsir, menggagas konsep dakwah Islam bukan sekedar menyampaikan ajaran Islam, tetapi amar ma’ruf nahi munkar yang di dalamnya mengandung tiga unsur utama yaitu amal perbuatan lisan, aktualisasi ajaran Islam dengan karya nyata, dan kepribadian yang terpuji sebagai sokogurunya.---Abstract This study aims to reconstruct the history of thought of a well-known, gentle, decisive, and islamic politician figure, Mochammad Natsir. His thoughts on Islamic education is his struggle to pay attention to the fate of Indonesian people, especially Muslims. This study highlights Mochammad Natsir’s thought on education through da’wah (the preaching of Islam), his political enggagement, and his writings in the form of books, news, as well as articles in newspapers, especially daily newspaper owned by Partai Islam Masyumi (Islamic Party Masyumi) between 1950-1960. As Islamic political figure, Mochammad Natsir has optimally contributed his energy and thought to the Muslim community in Indonesia especially, and Indonesian people generally. Mochammad Natsir thinks that Islamic preaching is not merely delivering Islamic teachings, but also amar ma’ruf nahi munkar which consists of three primary elements, namely verbal deeds, the actualization of the Islamic teachings with the real work, and commendable personality as the pillar. According to him, Muslim has to be free from poverty, suffer, ignorance, illiterate, blind heart, and oppresion. Therefore, they have to refer to the Koran and hadith in social life.
Tratando de duas instituições públicas de ensino secundário de Campina Grande-PB, o Colégio Estadual da Prata (1953) e a Escola Normal Estadual (1960), o artigo discute o prestígio social das duas ...instituições, destacando as solenidades de inauguração dos prédios e o alunado de cada uma delas, nas respectivas primeiras décadas de funcionamento. Os achados provêm de matérias veiculadas em jornais do estado, bem como das fichas individuais dos alunos, disponíveis nos arquivos das instituições. A cobertura jornalística e a dimensão política das solenidades de inauguração dos prédios constituem forte indício do prestígio social do Colégio Estadual e da Escola Normal. Já o seu alunado foi constituído de jovens (rapazes e moças) oriundos de família tradicionais da elite campinense e regiões circunvizinhas. Tais achados permitem considerar que a trajetória das instituições, no período aqui analisado, evidencia a tensão entre elitização e democratização do ensino secundário campinense, nas décadas de 1950-1960.

We analyse housing costs and patterns of residential development over the long term in a dynamic general equilibrium. We show that in a growing economy the speed of travel improvements is ...crucial to the evolution of land and house prices. We derive a condition for the rate of change in transport efficiency that generates flat land and house prices on a balanced growth path. We present evidence that this condition was satisfied in many countries between the mid-nineteenth century and the mid-twentieth century, but since then passenger transport improvements have slowed down with major implications for how house prices evolve.

He was also a master stylist who introduced technological innovations and fresh ideas about film form and genre into Korean cinema. This book offers a transnational cultural history of Han’s films, one that foregrounds questions of gender and style. Han’s films embody a period style that Klein calls “Cold War cosmopolitanism.” The waging of the Cold War enmeshed South Korea within a network of ties to the Free World. Fostered by political leaders like Syngman Rhee, American institutions such as the US military and the Asia Foundation, and ordinary Koreans, these networks created channels through which material resources, liberal ideas, and cultural texts flowed into and out of Korea. Han and other cultural producers tapped into these networks to create new forms of commercial culture that meshed local concerns with foreign trends. Combining extensive archival research and in-depth analyses of individual films, Cold War Cosmopolitanism offers a fresh, interdisciplinary perspective on the waging of the cultural Cold War in Asia."
The essay focuses on West German foreign-correspondents in the USSR in the post-Stalin era of the 1950s and early 1960s and their efforts to create a normal perspective on the antagonist within the ...Cold War. Not only the obtaining of information but also the journalists' private life was influenced by the constant control and surveillance of Soviet authorities and the special living conditions in Moscow. The correspondents assessed and managed these measures in different ways due to their differing biographical backgrounds and professional experience. In fact, these measures gave the journalists a view of the authorities impact on Soviet society, in Moscow and the rural areas as well.

Mark Mussari explores the relationship between Danish ...design aesthetics and the theoretical and cultural impact of Modernism, particularly between 1930 and 1960. He considers how Danish designers responded to early Modernist currents: the Stockholm Exhibition of 1930, their rejection of Bauhaus aesthetic demands, their early fealty to wood and materials, and the tension between cabinetmaker craft and industrial production as it challenged and altered their aesthetic approach. Tracing the theoretical foundations for these developments, Mussari discusses the writings and works of such figures as Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Nanna Ditzel, and Finn Juhl.
