The main objective of the paper is to discuss the theme of apocalypse and post-apocalypse used by popular literature creators. Four types of possible apocalypses will be analyzed and will be ...examinated, each with an example from literature. The sources of contemporary apocalypse and the consequences of introducing the theme into fantastic worlds will also be described. This theme is popular with creators and is also of great interest to the public, especially nowadays.
In this paper, I will examine Mała apokalipsa (1979) by Tadeusz Konwicki with the aim of highlighting how, despite all the mentions of the reality of the then Polish People’s Republic, the novel can ...also be fully appreciated outside its cultural and historical context. Following an analysis of the ways the structural principle of the book, the grotesque, interweaves reality and surreality, I will explore the Italian edition of Konwicki’s novel through the lens of world literature’s postulate concerning the possibility of a work gaining new meanings outside its original framework.
Celem artykułu jest pogłębienie myśli badawczej nad dziełem Wiktoryna z Poetavium pt. Komentarz do Apokalipsy. Najpierw została przedstawiona krótka biografia tego pierwszego łacińskiego komentatora ...ostatniej księgi Pisma Świętego, jego twórczość pisarska, następnie jego metoda egzegezy literalno-alegorycznej oraz wybrane zagadnienia charakterystyczne dla teologicznej myśli Wiktoryna: millenaryzm, rolę Osoby Ducha Świętego w Apokalipsie, rozumienie Biblii Starego i Nowego Testamentu jako spójnej całości Słowa Bożego, wiarę Żydów w odniesieniu do Jezusa Chrystusa, a także stosunek egzegety do Państwa Rzymskiego. Zostały poddane analizie fragmenty Komentarza do Apokalipsy, następnie wnioski zebrano, zwłaszcza w dłuższym podsumowaniu artykułu.
Przytoczono krótko też wyniki badań innego tekstu biskupa Petawium – De fabrica mundi, w którym to traktacie o stworzeniu świata pojawiają się ciekawe koncepcje autora o aniołach, dotyczące np. dwudziestu czterech aniołów pierwotnych stworzonych pierwszego dnia.
Do grona głównych bohaterów Janowej Apokalipsy należą kobiety.
The article discusses the commentary of St. Caesarius of Arles on the Apocalypse of St. John. The bishop of Arles wrote his commentary on the basis of the Ticonius’s study. Due to this fact, the work ...of Caesarius, which has been saved all in one piece, is an extremely important source of information about the commentary of Ticonius and may be very useful in the process of its reconstruction. The explication of the Apocalypse, written by the Gallic shepherd, is practical. The author tried to make comments on the Apocalypse in the context of the situation of the Church in Gaul. He was more interested in ecclesiological message of St. John’s text rather than in its eschatological message. In consequence, the commentary was very practical and might have been used by priests who had to face such problems as the schism of the Church, rebaptism and relations with heretics.

The presented article deals with the theological function of the terms καιρός and χρόνος in the Book of Revelation. The noun καιρός occurs five times in this book (1:3; 11:18; 12:12; 12:14; 22:10) ...and stresses primarily the intervention of God in the history of the world and men. Although the term καιρός is marked eschatologically, the intervention of God cannot be reduced to the Parousia. The eschatological times have been inaugurated along with the coming of Messiah to the earth. For this reason the whole history of the world, seen from this perspective, becomes a continuous καιρός, when God acts for the benefit of His people. The term χρόνος, which in its basic meaning denotes a period of time, is used in the Book of Revelation to stress time as seen from the perspective of men (and the earth). It is therefore the time given to men to repent (2:21), and the time of the revelation of God in the course of human history (10:6). It is the time of Satan’s activity as well, a period which, perceived in light of the Messiah-event, appears as “a short time” (6:11; 20:3), even if it means a time of persecution for believers.
Correct understanding of the term ὥρα in Rev depends on the literary and theological context. In the first section of the article the texts of the Letters to the Churches are discussed. There, in the ...context of the message of Christ, the “hour” is related to the situation of each Christian community. In the Letter to the Church in Sardis (3:3), a lack of vigilance can cause her not to recognize the time of the Lord’s coming. In the Letter to the Church in Philadelphia (3:10), the community receives a promise to be preserved in the hour of trial. In the second section of the article, the texts of the main part of Rev are discussed. In Rev 17–18 the “hour” has two different meanings. In the context of Rev 17:12 the “one hour” symbolizes the limited period of government directed against God, Christ and the Church. In a funeral song in Rev 18 the “one hour” is a recurring element of laments over the kings, the merchants, and of the owners of seagoing ships (18:10.17.19). The expression “one hour” indicates an impending and sudden fall of Babylon. In other texts the “hour” is a moment of fulfilling God’s intentions (11:13) and a precise, planned moment of judgment (9:15; 14:7.15). In the third section the expression “half-hour” (8:1) is discussed, which probably means a very short period of time. Thus, in the context of Rev the term “hour” may mean either a specific historical moment or a very limited period of time, but always an element of time planned, implemented or permitted by God.
