Es nuestra intención a lo largo de estas páginas constatar cómo la hibridez y las transformaciones estéticas han interactuado con el compromiso social y político en la poesía; un matrimonio no ...siempre bien avenido pero que se ha obstinado en fusionarse con el fin de ofrecer una combinación posible que casi siempre ha actuado como dialéctica. Los avances estéticos de las vanguardias y sus vinculaciones sociales y políticas Las vanguardias fueron el síntoma, en el terreno artístico, de nuevos tiempos en los que el pasado dejaba de tener la significación de antaño con el fin de dar un paso hacia otras formas más diversas que dialogaran con el convulso presente. En el afán de distanciarse de la tradición, incluso desde el repudio a las tradiciones literarias anteriores, estos movimientos evidenciaron el agotamiento de la estética finisecular y la necesidad de introducir nuevos modelos a partir de la crisis moral e ideológica fruto de la Primera Guerra Mundial; una guerra que cimentaría las bases para otra aún más arrolladora si cabe, la Segunda, y que tendría sus consecuencias artísticas en el período inmediatamente posterior a las vanguardias. En lo que atañe a la poesía, la experimentación vanguardista potenció, como dijimos en su día, «formas de expresión externa que dejaron en un segundo plano los contenidos representativos; es decir, se pasó de la poesía entendida como vehículo de transmisión de sentimientos, o estados de ánimo, a indagar en las posibilidades de la factura del poema y expresar, desde esta coyuntura, sus diferencias con la visión canónica de lo poético» (Alemany, 2011, p. 54). Más allá de la poesía en forma de collages o de caligramas, procedentes fundamentalmente de Stéphane Mallarmé y de Guillaume Apollinaire ..., y que tendrán limitada trascendencia en la historia literaria -salvo como síntoma de una transformación social de la escritura-; los movimientos de vanguardia europeos, y específicamente los latinoamericanos (creacionismo, ultraísmo argentino, estridentismo, entre otros), dotaron al poema de una nueva factura que contrastaba con la línea métrica más tradicional: se prescindía de la estrofa y de la rima, y el verso derivaba hacia una libertad inusitada que se nutría con rupturas sintácticas. Como fruto de estos cambios el poeta deja de tener un solo absoluto para considerar en el seno mismo de sus composiciones otras voces que lo acompañan y que lo refuerzan, y que constituirán una modernidad que también tendrá sus consecuencias en la poesía cuatro décadas después y que llega hasta la actualidad. En Europa los movimientos de vanguardia cuestionaron en cierto sentido la modernidad, establecieron incluso distancias respecto a ella, o bien expresaron su relación de suficiencia; en cambio, en América Latina la vanguardia fue un síntoma de modernización acelerada y los vanguardistas de aquellas tierras señalaron y agudizaron esa relación de carencia con la modernidad tanto en el aspecto material como en el social y el político. (1998, p. 27) El puente entre las vanguardias europeas y latinoamericanas fue el chileno Vicente Huidobro (1893-1948), uno de los máximos exponentes de la poesía visual. En Adán (poema) (1916) nuestro escritor dará muestras de la libertad inusitada del verso, que adquirirá una nueva concepción rítmica; también en esos años, con la publicación de El espejo de agua (1916), las disposiciones verticales o diagonales de algunos versos, los espacios en blanco de la página o el juego con diferentes tipografías serán novedades que se incrementarán en libros posteriores: desde Horizon carré (1917) hasta Automne régulier (1925). Claro ejemplo de lo que estoy planteando es el estridentismo, movimiento -como se sabe- influido por el futurismo italiano de Filippo Tommaso Marinetti y por el ultraísmo, y que intentó en sus manifestaciones artísticas ilustrar las posibilidades poéticas de lo mecánico, así como el valor de la temática social: enaltecieron los nuevos aparatos (el aeroplano fue su emblema) con imágenes de claro carácter dinámico e hicieron uso de recursos tipográficos con el fin de situar a la palabra en un espacio de libertad y una forma de dicción poética en la que se unía lo irónico con la protesta. Si bien no se puede afirmar lo mismo con respecto a las otras corrientes de vanguardia con las que coincide, pues son demasiado visibles las influencias del futurismo, del unanimismo, del dadaísmo, del creacionismo y del ultraísmo -solo el relativismo de la primera época estridentista-, en el momento en que se adopta la ideología social de la Revolución mexicana y la incorpora a su literatura, el movimiento adquiere solidez, organización, y de alguna manera se separa del resto de la vanguardia internacional. (1970, p. 206) Fue en diciembre de 1921 cuando apareció su primer manifiesto en Actual.
Reading Apollinaire's Calligrammes examines Guillaume Apollinaire's second major collection of poetry. Where is the boundary between writing and image? Where does the written word end and at what point can our perceptual apparatus recognize an image as such? These considerations are based on the ...pictorial poems of the French poet and writer Guillaume Apollinaire (1880-1918), which have their origins in Greek antiquity and have been taken up again in avant-garde typography. A pictorial poem, also known as a calligram, not only communicates the content of a text, but also creates a visual object of perception with its own level of meaning, thus combining text and image. 100 years later, the question arises as to whether the colourful helpers of our digital communication - we are talking here about the so-called emojis (Japanese: picture characters, or moji, Japanese: writing) - can be regarded as the digital heritage of 20th century pictorial poems.
In "L’Esprit nouveau et les poètes" towards the end of his life, Guillaume Apollinaire formulated an inspiring creed: "One can be a poet in all fields: it suffices that one be adventurous and that ...one goes out to explore." All of its literary and artistic production, even all of its activities, result from the implementation of this admirable modus vivendi. Apollinaire was a poet, prose writer, critic, art and literature writer, journalist, playwright, film scriptwriter, letter writer, painter, and draftsman, collector, lecturer, magazine editor, impresario of all literary and artistic modernisms... How many other artists or writers have shown such creative polymorphosm, such inventive plurality, such mobile diversity in all genres?
Van Dijck offers information on Curiousities from the Front by avant-garde poet Guillaume Apollinaire. It reinvents the everyday objects that cluttered World War I's front lines: a shovel held up ...above the trench, for instance, becomes a dancing musical instrumenl as German bullets strike the shovel plate. This sense of humor was characteristic of the trench press, which existed to distract readers from the grim realities of warfare. Probably because it was thought to be so amusing or pertinent, Apollinaire's piece attracted some notice in its day.
Guillaume Apollinaire (1880‒1918) was a renowned Belarus-born French poet and critic of modernist art; he created the terms “cubism” in 1911 and “surrealism” in 1917. Apollinaire was also a pioneer ...in his period for his collection of shape poems called calligrams, published in 1918 in Calligrammes: Poemès de la paix et de la guerre 1913–1916 (Calligrams: Poems of Peace and War 1913–1916). Shape poems, also known as concrete poems, are poetic works that are shaped like their subjects or topics. Calligrams are a subset of this genre in which the text is thematically arranged such that the visual image of what is written or typed closely reflects what the words themselves express. The image on this month’s cover is one such calligram that described how Apollinaire was enamored of his beloved, using a female visual image and illustrating the eye (oeil), nose (nez), mouth (bouche), and neck (cou) using those very words (in French) in the visual representation of those parts of the image: “Reconnais-toi. Cette adorable personne c’est toi. Sous le grand chapeau canotier. Nez. Oeil. Ta bouche. Voici l’ovale de ta figure. Ton cou exquis. Voici enfin l’imparfaite image de ton buste adoré vu comme à travers un nuage. Un peu plus bas c’est ton coeur qui bat.” “You recognize that this lovely person, that’s you, under a wide boater’s hat….Nose…Eye…Your mouth. Here, the oval of your face…your exquisite neck. And finally, here is the flawed picture of your beloved bust seen as through a mist. And down a little farther is your heart that is beating.”

The Modernist Bestiary centres on Le Bestiaire ou Cortège d'Orphée (1911), a multimedia collaborative work by French-Polish poet Guillaume Apollinaire and French artist Raoul Dufy, and its homonym, ...The Bestiary or Procession of Orpheus (1979), by British artist Graham Sutherland. Rather than reconstructing the lineage of these two compositions, the book uncovers the aesthetic and intellectual processes involved that operate in different times, places and media. The Apollinaire and Dufy Bestiary is an open-ended collaboration, a feature that Sutherland develops in his re-visiting, and this book shows how these neglected works are caught up in many-faceted networks of traditions and genres. These include Orphic poetry from the past, contemporary musical settings, and bestiary writing from its origins to the present. The nature of productive dialogue between thought and art, and the refracted light they throw on each other are explored in each of the pieces in the book, and the aesthetic experience emerges as generative rather than reductive or complacent. The contributors' encounters with these works take the form of poetry and essays, all moving freely between different disciplines and practices, humanistic and posthumanist critical dimensions, as well as different animals and art forms. They draw on disciplines ranging from music, art history, translation, Classical poetry and French poetry, and are nurtured by approaches including phenomenology, cultural studies, sound studies, and critical animal studies. Collectively the book shows that the aesthetic encounter, by nature affective, is by nature also interdisciplinary and motivating, and that it spurs the critical in addressing the complex issues of 'humananimality'.

Cette étude se penche sur la dimension sonore des calligrammes, mis en dialogue avec d’autres poèmes du recueil, afin de comprendre en quoi consiste le changement de perspective – intellectuel, linguistique, sensoriel – prôné par Apollinaire dans sa quête du nouveau.
Although Apollinaire called his calligrams “idéogrammes lyriques” (lyrical ideograms), and although many calls to listen are scattered throughout the collection Calligrammes, what really makes these poem-drawings so striking is the novelty of their visual aspect. This study examines the sonic dimension of the calligrams, considered in relation to other poems in the collection, in order to understand the change of perspective—intellectual, linguistic, sensory—advocated by Apollinaire in his quest for novelty.
