Sustainable tourism is the dream of every destination by harmonizing economic, social and environmental aspects in every strategic tourism activity, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic hit almost ...two years ago. The concept of sustainability is not as easy as it is echoed both in theory and practice in the field. Sustainability is seen as difficult to measure and operationalize due to authority barriers and the term sustainability, which is used in various contexts and situations, means different things to different people. The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate barriers to the implementation of sustainable tourism in the tourism accommodation sector in Bali. This research is a qualitative approach. Data collection methods in this research are literature, observation, interview, and Focus Group Discussion. This research is supported by experts, namely the government, the tourism industry, especially hotel general managers, academics and the community using purposive sampling techniques. The result of this research is that 4 main reasons hinder the implementation of sustainable tourism in the accommodation sector in Bali, namely 1) Companies only focus on profit or profit, 2) There is a conflict of interest that occurs between investors and tourism accommodation managers, 3) Running the concept of sustainability just to get legitimacy, and 4) Competition in room rental prices has implications for the cheapening of tour package offers. Suggestions that can be proposed are the awareness and commitment of tourism accommodation actors to be critical so that companies do not make a profit as the ultimate goal in business, but actively participate in efforts to realize sustainable tourism development in Bali.
In 2002 Australia was rocked by the terrorist bombings in Bali that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. Then, only 3 years later, another bombing in Bali claimed the lives of a further 20 ...people and injured 100 others. Who was behind the bombings and how could they be stopped? In Defeating Terror, former Australian Federal Police agent David Craig draws on his first-hand involvement to tell the true story of the hunt for the Bali bombers. Craig takes us behind the front-line fight, exposing the strengths, fears and vulnerabilities of both sides as they painstakingly piece together the backgrounds of the terrorists, their radicalisation and their bomb-making abilities and methods of evasion. Defeating Terror is a fast-paced and riveting account of the hunt for the masterminds behind the Bali bombings. In a real-life wild-west shoot out, when the terrorists are finally cornered, thousands of bullets are exchanged and 11 bombs are thrown at police. The terrorist mastermind is killed, but is his organisation dead? DAVID CRAIG was a senior officer in the Australian Federal Police. He has trained with international forces including the FBI and served in various countries including Indonesia, East Timor and Afghanistan.
Background: Stunting is a nutritional status based on measurements of the Length-for-Age or Height-for-Age index of the anthropometric standards assessment of nutritional status of children. The ...report of the Public Health Center (PHC) of Tegallalang I revealed the largest number of stunting cases in Kedisan Village, with 28 toddlers suffering from stunting based on 2017 data. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the risk factors associated with stunting at Kedisan Village, Tegallalang Sub-district, Gianyar District. Methods: This is an analytic study employing a case-control approach. Sampling was carried out using a total sampling technique; that is, by utilizing all cases of children under five who were declared stunted in the village in question (a total of 28 cases). The case:control ratio used was 1:1; thus, the total sample used in the study was 56 samples from May 2017. Bivariate analysis was conducted using a chi-square test. Results: The majority of respondents were employed (i.e., 67.80% in the case group and 53.50% in the control group); in terms of the most recent level of education, 35.70% of respondents in the case group had a junior high school education, while 46.40% in the control group had a senior high school education. The results of the bivariate analysis found that the risk factor that was most significantly related with the incidence of stunting was complementary foods with breast milk (p = 0.03; OR: 4.63), while other risk factors were not related to the occurrence of stunting. Conclusions: The factor that influenced the occurrence of stunting in Kedisan Village was complementary foods with breast milk.
Besung INK, Watiniasih NL, Mahardika GNK, Agustina KK, Suwiti NK. 2019. Mineral levels of Bali cattle (Bos javanicus) from four different types of land in different rearing areas in Bali, Nusa ...Penida, and Sumbawa Islands (Indonesia). Biodiversitas 20: 2931-2936. This study aims to prove that the mineral level of Bali cattle in serum is dependent on the origin and raising habitat. Serum samples were collected from three islands in Indonesia, i.e. Bali, Nusa Penida, and Sumbawa. Samples from Bali were further classified into four different areas (i.e. agroforestry, perennial plantation, horticultural plantation, and rice field). Blood samples were collected in the jugular vein without anticoagulant. The contents of macrominerals (Ca, Mg, Na, K, P) and microminerals (Fe, Cu, Zn, Co, Mn) were measured using the flame method in atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results showed that the level of phosphor (P) macromineral and all microminerals under study were influenced by the origin of cattle. The macrominerals are statistically varied in different cattle raising environments. The same is also valid for all microminerals, with an exception of Fe. All mineral levels under study were statistically equal in male and female Bali cattle. Phosphor macromineral and all microminerals levels were origin and environment-dependent. Supplementation of deficient minerals in a certain area and land type is recommended to improve the performance of Bali cattle.
