This article deals with the economic role of towns in the late-medieval kingdom of Naples, considering the case of Barletta. The focus is on a custom register from Barletta for 1483-84, which allows ...to examine the economic flows that crossed the city and the identity of the involved players. This source also shows the complex nature of fiscal barriers, which were not just obstacles on the road to economic integration. Instead, they constituted a fundamental ingredient in the segmented forms of integration that characterised late medieval economic spaces. On the basis of this approach, an interpretation is outlined regarding the role of Barletta and the people of Barletta within the Kingdom's, Adriatic and Mediterranean spaces. Its aim is to mediate between readings that are too rigidly neo-institutionalist or, vice versa, too pessimistic in proposing a centre-periphery interpretation of the relations between central-northern and southern Italy.
El Teatro del Pueblo fue creado en Buenos Aires el 30 de noviembre de 1930 por iniciativa del escritor y periodista Leónidas Barletta. Este espacio fue tomado por la crítica especializada como el ...primer teatro independiente de Buenos Aires. A su vez, varios de los postulados que se llevaron a cabo por el Teatro del Pueblo se habían estado ejecutando desde hacía bastante tiempo en algunas ciudades europeas. Distintos teóricos y protagonistas de los comienzos del teatro independiente sostuvieron que noticias referidas al tema llegaban a Buenos Aires y se vinculaban con la nueva práctica teatral que estaba surgiendo aquí. El propósito de este trabajo es, entonces, dar cuenta de las diferentes corrientes del teatro europeo que fueron consideradas antecedentes del teatro independiente porteño, clasificarlas y observar en qué puntos pueden ser tomadas como influencias para el Teatro del Pueblo. The People's Theater was created in Buenos Aires on November 30, 1930 at the initiative of writer and journalist Leónidas Barletta. This place was taken by the specialist criticism as the first independent theater in Buenos Aires. In turn, many of the assumptions that were performed by the Teatro del Pueblo had been running for quite some time in some European cities. Different theorists and protagonists of the early independent theater argued that news relating to the subject came to Buenos Aires and these were linked with the new theatrical practice that was emerging here. Then, the purpose of this paper is to account for the different currents of European theater that were considered part of the history of independent theater in Buenos Aires, to classify them and to observe what points can be taken as influences for the Teatro del Pueblo. Natural and anthropogenic caves may represent a potential hazard for the built environment, due to the occurrence of instability within caves, that may propagate upward and eventually reach the ...ground surface, inducing the occurrence of sinkholes. In particular, when caves are at shallow depth, the effects at the ground surface may be extremely severe. Apulia region (southern Italy) hosts many sites where hazard associated with sinkholes is very serious due to presence of both natural karst caves and anthropogenic cavities, the latter being mostly represented by underground quarries. The Pliocene–Pleistocene calcarenite (a typical soft rock) was extensively quarried underground, by digging long and complex networks of tunnels. With time, these underground activities have progressively been abandoned and their memory lost, so that many Apulian towns are nowadays located just above the caves, due to urban expansion in the last decades. Therefore, a remarkable risk exists for society, which should not be left uninvestigated.
The present contribution deals with the analysis of the most representative failure mechanisms observed in the field for such underground instability processes and the factors that seem to influence the processes, as for example those causing weathering of the rock and the consequent degradation of its physical and mechanical properties. Aimed at exploring the progression of instability of the cavities, numerical analyses have been developed by using both the finite element method for geological settings represented by continuous soft rock mass, and the distinct element method for jointed rock mass conditions. Both the effects of local instability processes occurring underground and the effects of the progressive enlargement of the caves on the overall stability of the rock mass have been investigated, along with the consequent failure mechanisms. In particular, degradation processes of the rock mass, as a consequence of wetting and weathering phenomena in the areas surrounding the caves, have been simulated. The results obtained from the numerical simulations have then been compared with what has been observed during field surveys and a satisfactory agreement between the numerical simulations and the instability processes, as detected in situ, has been noticed.

The Barletta colossus is the sole large-scale statue in bronze preserved of a late antique emperor; the only comparable image is the even larger, but fragmentary, Constantinian emperor in Rome. ...According to local tradition, the Barletta colossus depicts the Byzantine emperor Heraclius (610-641). Modern researchers tend to regard this attribution as mere folklore and fiction. But while there is a general consensus that the statue does not portray Heraclius, there is no agreement as to whom it may have been intended to portray. About a dozen different emperors have been proposed, suggested dates ranging from the fourth to the eighth century. The present article reviews the evidence and discusses the methodological problems we face when dealing with this enigmatic work.

Independent theater emerged in Buenos Aires in the late 1930s, providing a new form of producing and conceptualizing staged drama, along with key figures such as Leóni-das Barletta (1902-1975) and ...his People’s Theater. Independent productions aimed to distance theater from three traditional elements: the actor as company manager, the commercial businessman, and the State. The emergence of this new type of theater implied changes in poetic arts, group organization, audience rela-tionships, political militancy, and aesthetic theories. This article seeks to contribute to a future integral history of independent theater.
