•Cutaneous metastasis of renal cell carcinoma is rare.•Bellini carcinoma is a very rare type of carcinoma of renal cell origin with a very poor prognosis.•Multiple skin metastases from an ...asymptomatic Bellini's carcinoma are exceptional.
Cutaneous metastasis of renal cell carcinoma is rare and the majority of these metastases are asynchronous. The scalp and face are the major sites of metastases, followed by the chest and abdomen. However, the entire body surface can be affected. When diagnosed, patients are multi-metastatic in 50–80% of cases during follow-up post nephrectomy.
We report here a patient who consulted a dermatologist for multiple skin nodules that appeared 3 months prior. A skin biopsy of a nodule was performed and the pathological examination and immunohistochemistry profile confirmed a metastasis of Bellini Carcinoma, which is a renal cell carcinoma of the collecting duct. A thoraco-abdomino-pelvic scan showed a left renal tumor locally advanced with lung and liver metastases. Chemotherapy was indicated and the patient died four months after diagnosis.
Bellini carcinoma is a very rare type of carcinoma of renal cell origin with a very poor prognosis as it is diagnosed already at a metastatic state in the vast majority of cases. After analysis of the data from the literature, our case is the second reported case of a Bellini carcinoma revealed by cutaneous metastases. The peculiarity of our observation is metastases occurred on all four limbs and at the trunk level, and the asymptomatic characteristic of Bellini's carcinoma, which is a rare situation.
The originality of this observation is based on the mode of presentation of a rare renal tumor by an even rarer metastasis of the skin.
This article is linked to the field of urban anthropology. The aim of my work was to investigate the “Giardino comunale Vincenzo Bellini” in Catania as a turning point for the civic and cultural life ...within urban space. The study moved from the idea that “Giardino Bellini” is not only a central urban space due to its position and history, but also represents a perfect location for reading social dynamics which are crucial in the city life. A “Villa” – so is the Giardino Bellini better known by Cataneses – can therefore assume a great anthropological significance, which was studied through a placed and relationship-wise analysis. However, this was open to a diachronic perspective able to understand how civic memories converge in this space-urban hub.

When Vincenzo Bellini died in 1835, the sculptor Dantan took a mold of his face in order to preserve the features of the great Italian composer for future generations. The operation was carried out a ...second time in Catania forty-two years later, when the musician’s corpse was moved from Paris to Sicily. In order to explain Bellini’s musical genius with regards to the structure of the skull and his facial features, both molds were subject to various phrenological studies which highlighted the predominance of the faculties of tune and benevolence. By analyzing contemporary texts, we will frame “the Bellini case” in the historical context of phrenological studies on Italian, and more widely European composers, that aimed to scientifically explain the origins of musical genius.
Collecting (Bellini) duct carcinoma (CDC) is a highly malignant and rare kidney tumor. We report our 12-year experience with CDC and the results of a retrospective analysis of patients and tumor ...characteristics, clinical manifestations, and imaging features by computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and positron emission tomography (PET)/CT.
Retrospective examination of tumors between January 2007 and December 2019 identified 13 cases of CDC from three medical centers in northern China. All 13 patients underwent CT scan, among which eight underwent dynamic enhanced CT scan, two underwent PET/CT scan, and one underwent magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) examination. The lesions were divided into nephritis type and mass type according to the morphology of the tumors.
The study group included ten men and three women with an average age of 64.23 ± 10.74 years. The clinical manifestations were gross hematuria, flank pain, and waist discomfort. The mean tumor size was 8.48 ± 2.48 cm. Of the 13 cases, six (46.2%) were cortical-medullary involved type and seven (53.8%) were cortex-medullary-pelvis involved type. Eleven (84.6%) cases were nephritis type and two (15.4%) were mass type. The lesions appeared solid or complex solid and cystic on CT and MRI. The parenchymal area of the tumors showed isodensity or slightly higher density on unenhanced CT scan in the 13 cases. PET/CT in two cases showed increased radioactivity intake. Evidence of intra-abdominal metastatic disease was present on CT in nine (69.2%) cases.
The imaging characteristics of CDC differ from those of other renal cell carcinomas. In renal tumors located in the junction zone of the renal cortex and medulla that show unclear borders, slight enhancement, and metastases in the early stage, a diagnosis of CDC needs to be considered. PET/CT provides crucial information for the diagnosis of CDC, as well as for designing treatment strategies including surgery.
We present a rare clinical case of renal cell carcinoma from the collection tubules-carcinoma of Bellini. A 69 years old patient, enters in our department with symptoms of massive hematuria. From the ...studies carried out-blood tests, CT and cystoscopy there are no data of neo process of lower urinary tract, but shows horseshoe-shaped kidney, cystic deformation of the left kidney and aortic dissection. A left radical nephroureterectomy was performed, with preoperative diagnosis of renal tumor at stage T3. The histopathological diagnosis was Bellini duct carcinoma of papillary tubular type. The patient currently remains disease –free.

Although collecting duct carcinoma is a subtype of renal cell carcinoma, several studies implicate association with urothelial carcinoma. The coexistence of collecting duct carcinoma and another ...renal neoplasm is rare. Endemic nephropathy is a renal disease causing chronic renal failure. It is highly associated with urothelial neoplasm and occurs in endemic villages in Bosnia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia. Recent studies have confirmed the important role of exposure to aristolochic acid as an etiologic factor. We present three cases of collecting duct carcinoma with literature overview. In one case, we describe collecting duct carcinoma with metachronous urothelial carcinoma of the pyelon and urinary bladder in an endemic nephropathy patient. To our knowledge, this is the first case report describing this coexistence. Certain similarities between collecting duct carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma were found, e.g., higher incidence in female compared to male, higher mean age, and multifocal and multicentric occurrence of the tumor. Our observations support the hypothesis that collecting duct carcinoma and urothelial carcinoma could be connected.
