Abstract
Under the background of social and economic development, college enrollment expansion, constructivism learning theory and teaching technology development, A new teaching method of college ...English course is proposed and established. Compared with the traditional teaching method, this new teaching method has many advantages. In addition, its main purpose is to change the traditional single and boring classroom for teachers, make the classroom become free and active and personalized, and let students give full play to and express themselves. The operation mode of the new model is the combination of large class teaching and small class practice, classroom teaching and open independent learning, cd-ROM multimedia and network teaching, first-level classroom teaching and second-level classroom activities. The evaluation system under the new model is no longer a single summative evaluation, but a combination of summary and formation of the evaluation system. Under this new model, teachers pay more attention to the accumulation of their knowledge and the improvement of professional teaching skills, and students pay more attention to improve their learning methods and improve their learning ability.
e- and m-Health communication technologies are now common approaches to improving population health. The efficacy of behavioral nutrition interventions using e-health technologies to decrease fat ...intake and increase fruit and vegetable intake was demonstrated in studies conducted from 2005 to 2009, with approximately 75% of trials showing positive effects. By 2010, an increasing number of behavioral nutrition interventions were focusing on body weight. The early emphasis on interventions that were highly computer tailored shifted to personalized electronic interventions that included weight and behavioral self-monitoring as key features. More diverse target audiences began to participate, and mobile components were added to interventions. Little progress has been made on using objective measures rather than self-reported measures of dietary behavior. A challenge for nutritionists is to link with the private sector in the design, use, and evaluation of the many electronic devices that are now available in the marketplace for nutrition monitoring and behavioral change.
Background
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a self-guided CD-ROM program (“Headstrong”) containing cognitive-behavioral self-management strategies versus an educational ...CD-ROM program for treating headaches, headache-related disability, and quality of life.
Methods
Participants were 35 children ages 7–12 years with migraine recruited from one university medical center and two children’s hospital headache clinics. Participants were randomly assigned to complete the Headstrong or educational control CD-ROM program over a 4-week period. Data on headache frequency, duration, and severity, migraine-related disability, and quality of life (QOL) were obtained at baseline, post-intervention, and 3-months post-intervention.
Results
At post-intervention, Headstrong resulted in lower severity (on a 10-point scale) than the control group by child report (5.06 ± 1.50 SD vs. 6.25 ± 1.92 SD, p = 0.03, ES = 0.7). At 3-months post-intervention, parents reported less migraine-related disability (on the PedMIDAS) in the Headstrong group compared to the control group (1.36 ± 2.06 SD vs. 5.18 ± 6.40 SD; p = 0.04, ES = 0.8). There were no other group differences at post treatment or at 3-months post-intervention.
Conclusions
When compared to an educational control, Headstrong resulted in lower pain severity at post-treatment and less migraine-related disability at 3-months post-intervention, by child and parent report respectively. Headache frequency and quality of life did not change more for Headstrong versus control. Additional research is needed on the Headstrong Program to increase its efficacy and to test it with a larger sample recruited from multiple centers simultaneously.
Clinical ethics support mechanisms in healthcare are increasing but little is known about the specific developments in elderly care. The aim of this paper is to present a systematic literature review ...on the characteristics of existing ethics support mechanisms in institutional elderly care. A review was performed in three electronic databases (Pubmed, CINAHL/PsycINFO, Ethxweb). Sixty papers were included in the review. The ethics support mechanisms are classified in four categories: ‘institutional bodies’ (ethics committee and consultation team); ‘frameworks’ (analytical tools to assist care professionals); ‘educational programmes and moral case deliberation’; and ‘written documents and policies’. For each category the goals, methods and ways of organising are described. Ethics support often serves several goals and can be targeted at various levels: case, professional or organisation. Over the past decades a number of changes have taken place in the development of ethics support in elderly care. Considering the goals, ethics support has become more outreaching and proactive, aiming to qualify professionals to integrate ethics in daily care processes. The approaches in clinical ethics support have become more diverse, more focused on everyday ethical issues and better adapted to the concrete learning style of the nursing staff. Ethics support has become less centrally organised and more connected to local contexts and primary process within the organisation.
Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a commonly used data model in the Semantic Web environment. Libraries and various other communities have been using the RDF data model to store valuable data ...after it is extracted from traditional storage systems. However, because of the large volume of the data, processing and storing it is becoming a nightmare for traditional data-management tools. This challenge demands a scalable and distributed system that can manage data in parallel. In this article, a distributed solution is proposed for efficiently processing and storing the large volume of library linked data stored in traditional storage systems. Apache Spark is used for parallel processing of large data sets and a column-oriented schema is proposed for storing RDF data. The storage system is built on top of Hadoop Distributed File Systems (HDFS) and uses the Apache Parquet format to store data in a compressed form. The experimental evaluation showed that storage requirements were reduced significantly as compared to Jena TDB, Sesame, RDF/XML, and N-Triples file formats. SPARQL queries are processed using Spark SQL to query the compressed data. The experimental evaluation showed a good query response time, which significantly reduces as the number of worker nodes increases.
A summary of chromosome numbers has been prepared for the Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) family. Over 9000 chromosome counts have been compiled from the literature. Chromosome numbers are known from 232 ...of the 338 (68.6%) genera and 1558 of the 3709 (42.0%) of the species in the family. Counts in the excel database have been arranged according to currently accepted taxonomy, and includes for each count, country of origin and reference citation.
Introduction: Demonstrating the effectiveness of the rapidly expanding field of electronic continuing education (e‐CE) has important implications for CE in the health professions. This study provides ...an update on evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the effectiveness of e‐CE in the health professions.
Methods: A literature search of RCTs was performed in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL from 2004 to 2007. Papers were reviewed separately by 2 of the authors and results were categorized and reviewed according to study comparisons.
Results: Fifteen studies met our inclusion criteria. Six compared e‐CE to no intervention or placebo. Of these 6 studies, 4 showed a statistically significant advantage of the e‐CE intervention and 2 showed no significant effect. Two studies compared e‐CE to a lecture. Of these, 1 showed an advantage of e‐CE and 1 showed no difference. Two studies compared e‐CE to a small‐group interactive intervention. In both studies, the e‐CE group outperformed the control. Two studies compared a multicomponent e‐CE intervention to one based on flat text, and both showed the multicomponent intervention to be more effective. Two of the 15 studies demonstrated a statistically significant effect on practice patterns. Positive effects of e‐CE on knowledge were shown to persist for up to 12 months and effects on practice up to 5 months.
Discussion: Overall, these studies suggest that multicomponent e‐CE interventions can be effective in changing health professionals' practice patterns, and improve their knowledge. E‐CE interventions based purely on flat text appear to be of limited effectiveness in changing either knowledge or practice. These results support the use of multicomponent e‐CE as a method of CE delivery.
