Youngsuk Chae’s “Postmodern Ecology” approaches ...environmental critique by walking us through Ruth Ozeki’s famed novel All Over Creation, detailing within it the logic of a global economic crisis that is produced mainly from biotechnology’s production of what is referred to as “simulated nature.” In this sense Jeon’s piece is a historical reading, indeed a historical representation, of racial formation during the moment of Japanese postwar economic reconstruction and the galvanization of U.S. imperial power in Asia and the Pacific.
This paper studies Truman Capote's In Cold Blood (serialized 1965, published 1966) in the context of the evidence-exclusion procedures that were central to the due process revolution in the United ...States in the 1950s and 1960s. I argue that Capote's text owes its canonicity in part to its mediation between legal procedure's exclusion of inculpatory evidence (an aesthetic of curtailment) and literature's inclusion of exculpatory evidence (an aesthetic of expansion). I conclude that legal procedurals such as In Cold Blood re-stage the conflict between these aesthetic frameworks, such that true-crime narratives are frequently figured as both testaments and correctives to the original legal trial.

Esta ponencia analiza la importancia del hip hop y el rap como elemento de cohesión social dentro y fuera de las fronteras cubanas, a través de los cuales se han constituido en Cuba un espacio de ...encuentro y dignificación para blancos, negros y especialmente mestizos pobres. El autor argumenta que el papel del rap es tan importante porque cuestiona la realidad cubana: el racismo, la pobreza, la marginalidad, la emigración, entre otros. También nota cómo en los últimos años han ido desapareciendo espacios asociados con el hip hop y cuestiona el futuro de esta manifestación musical. This article studies the crucial role of hip-hop and rap as an element of social cohesion, inside and outside national borders. It explains how through hip-hop and rap Cubans have created spaces of encounter to dignify Cubans of different skin colors. The importance of rap lays in its capacity to question Cuban reality: racism, poverty, marginality, and emigration, among others. The author notes that there has been a decline in the hip hop movement in the last years and questions the future of this musical manifestation in Cuba.
