This romantic genre is characterized not only by the hybridity of the structure, but also by the multiplicity of its characters. Insofar as the plot of the thriller is articulated around crimes, whether they are crimes of curiosity or those of suspense, some theorists, of whom Marc Lits who connects this genre to the presence of three poles: criminal, victim and detective. Around these poles, all combinations can then occur. We criticize this theory for classifying the characters on the basis of their roles without taking into account the transformations that may strike them during the story. So, we adopt here the semiological theory of Philippe Hamon. This theorist refutes to consider the character as a human person, but rather as a sign composed of linguistic signs. This means that the character could be identified from a set of signifiers prevalent in the given text such as name, age, physique, psychological, dress, biography, etc.

The presence of microplastics (MPs) products and particles in the environment can significantly impact the human body. Most MPs that enter the environment also enter the water cycle. During sunlight ...light irradiation (especially ultraviolet (UV) part) or UV disinfection, many of these MPs, particularly those rich in surface functional groups like thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), undergo physicochemical changes that can affect the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBPs). This study investigates the physicochemical changes of TPU in water after exposure to UV irradiation and incubation in the dark, as well as the formation of DBPs after chlorination. The results show that TPU undergo chain breakage, oxidation, and cross-linking when exposed to UV irradiation in an aqueous system. This leads to fragmentation into smaller particles, which facilitates the synthesis of DBPs. Subsequent research has demonstrated that the TPU leaching solution produces a significantly higher DBP content than the chlorination of TPU MPs, particularly at high concentrations of CHCl3. Therefore, it is important to give greater consideration to the soluble DBP precursors released by TPU.

The COVID-19 pandemic provided an extraordinarily unique opportunity to investigate how sudden, involuntary alterations to social routines influenced not just social relationships, but also ...parasocial relationships with fictional characters and celebrities. Results from a four-wave panel survey administered during the COVID-19 pandemic (N = 166) revealed that social relationships maintained their stability during social distancing, particularly among participants who increased mediated social engagement with friends and those low in attachment anxiety. Parasocial closeness with media personae increased over time, suggesting that favorite media personae became more meaningful as participants engaged in social distancing. Parasocial closeness increased with greater intensity among participants who increased parasocial engagement, reduced face-to-face social engagement with friends, increased mediated social engagement with friends, and those low in attachment anxiety. Results are discussed in terms of the potential influence of increased mediated social engagement with real-life friends on the parasocial processing of celebrities and fictional characters.

Eggert traces a literary history of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries in which the destabilizing anomaly of female rule enables Spenser to reshape the genre of epic romance and gives Shakespeare scope to create the ruptured dynastic epic of the history plays, the psychologized tragedy of Hamlet, and the feminized tragedies of "Antony and Cleopatra" and "The Winter's Tale." In the present study, we aimed to investigate whether long-term music training could improve audio-visual speech integration in Chinese, using event-related brain potential (ERP) measurements. ...Specifically, we recruited musicians and non-musicians to participate in our experiment where visual Chinese characters were presented simultaneously with congruent or incongruent speech sounds. In order to maintain participants' focus on both auditory and visual modalities, they were instructed to perform a probe detection task. Our study revealed that for the musicians, audiovisual incongruent stimuli elicited larger N1 and N400 amplitudes compared to audiovisual congruent stimuli. Conversely, for the non-musicians, only a larger N400 amplitude was observed for incongruent stimuli relative to congruent stimuli, without a significant difference in N1 amplitude. Furthermore, correlation analyses indicated that more years of music training was associated with a larger N1 effect for the musicians. These results suggest that musicians were capable of detecting character-speech sound incongruence at an earlier time window compared to non-musicians. Overall, our findings provide compelling evidence that music training is associated with better integration of visual characters and auditory speech sounds in language processing.

Gracias al profesor Ezpeleta, experto en la materia y de quien destacamos títulos como Crónica negra del magisterio español (2001), El profesor en la literatura (2006), Maestro y formación en la ...novela galdosiana (2009) o Leer y escribir en la escuela del XIX (2016), podemos apreciar una nueva mirada a esos temas a partir de la recopilación de textos costumbristas del escritor del siglo XIX publicados, por un lado, en el periódico Semanario Pintoresco Español, de Ramón de Mesonero Romanos y, por otra parte, en la colección de tipos Los españoles pintados por sí mismos, editada por Ignacio Boix y compuesta por los principales autores románticos. 1 Se incorporan además a la presente antología tres capítulos extraídos de la Historia de las Universidades, obra posterior que se sale ya del marco histórico del Romanticismo, pero que contiene algunos capítulos semejantes al cuadro de costumbres, ambientados en las viejas universidades de Salamanca y Alcalá de Henares.
