En este último grupo estaria la famosa discusión con Badiou con el que sostiene un enfrentamiento (más por parte de Badiou, que del propio Deleuze) sobre las posibilidades de una ontologia de la ...diferencia que asuma la unicidad del ser, tal y como defiende Deleuze y que Badiou contradice en función de su ontologia formalizada en la teoria matemática de conjuntos. Así, si en la tradición más ortodoxa prima el presupuesto pre filosófico de una vinculación entre el saber y el bien, la dirección que toma el pensamiento de Deleuze quiere fijarse más en otra corriente, que sitúa en los Cínicos o en la Stoa, y que aportan otra 'imagen' del pensar que lo vinculan más al cuerpo (las 'filosofías de la risa', p. 46) y lo sitúan previo al logos, que no es el mito, sino la sensación, la sensibilidad como "atmósfera pre filosófica", o 'sensus communis' imprescindible para desarrollar cualquier forma de pensamiento nuevo y articular una estética del espacio para una ontologia materialista. Sin embargo, el proceso no es solo gnoseológico, sino, como certeramente se expone en el libro, es también ontológico, pues la ontologia minorada de Deleuze se 'derrama' tanto en una imagen del pensar como una materia del ser. Pero, el ser del que nos habla esta ontologia no es ni el de lo inamovible, permanente, homogéneo y cerrado en si mismo con el que venimos tratando con mayor o menor fortuna desde el platonismo; tampoco es el ser del movimiento, tal y como nos remite la dialéctica hegeliana y toda su cohorte de historicismos.
