This article presents an analysis of the effects of infrastructural interventions in the natural environment of Drežnica, based on many years of field research and an interdisciplinary approach to methodology. In this way, it contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the historical, social, and economic elements of the relationship between humans and the natural environment, as key notions of modernity. Several questions are addressed: who manages the karst landscape, using which technology, promising which results, under which circumstances, and whose interest it is to protect the landscape. These questions are considered from a longer historical perspective, with a focus on changes in the management model of Drežničko polje. Relying on published and archival sources, the article sets a broader eco-historical framework for the analysis of the contemporary anthropogenic impact on Drežničko polje, using the example of the current project of its retention. The effects of hydro-engineering operations on the local community are viewed through the analytical prism of processual anthropology of infrastructure, based on the analysis of the bureaucratic discourse of environmental policy studies and interviews with members of the local community and environmental organizations.
Local breeds retained unique genetic variability important for adaptive potential especially in light of challenges related to climate change. Our first objective was to perform, for the first time, ...a genome-wide diversity characterization using Illumina GoatSNP50 BeadChip of autochthonous Dreznica goat breed from Slovenia, and five and one local breeds from neighboring Austria and Italy, respectively. For optimal conservation and breeding programs of endangered local breeds, it is important to detect past admixture events and strive for preservation of purebred representatives of each breed with low or without admixture. In the second objective, we hence investigated the effect of inclusion or exclusion of outliers from datasets on genetic diversity and population structure parameters. Distinct genetic origin of the Dreznica goat was demonstrated as having closest nodes to Austrian and Italian breeds. A phylogenetic study of these breeds with other goat breeds having SNP data available in the DRYAD repository positioned them in the alpine, European and global context. Swiss breeds clustered with cosmopolitan alpine breeds and were closer to French and Spanish breeds. On the other hand, the Dreznica goat, Austrian and Italian breeds were closer to Turkish breeds. Datasets where outliers were excluded affected estimates of genetic diversity parameters within the breed and increased the pairwise genetic distances between most of the breeds. Alpine breeds, including Dreznica, Austrian and Italian goats analyzed here, still exhibit relatively high levels of genetic variability, homogeneous genetic structure and strong geographical partitioning. Genetic diversity analyses revealed that the Slovenian Dreznica goat has a distinct genetic identity and is closely related to the neighboring Austrian and Italian alpine breeds. These results expand our knowledge on phylogeny of goat breeds from easternmost part of the European Alps. The here employed outlier test and datasets optimization approaches provided an objective and statistically powerful tool for removal of admixed outliers. Importance of this test in selecting the representatives of each breed is warranted to obtain more objective diversity parameters and phylogenetic analysis. Such parameters are often the basis of breeding and management programs and are therefore important for preserving genetic variability and uniqueness of local rare breeds.
Firstly, the identification of folk dances and pair dances of Serbian population on the border between Gorski kotar, Lika, and the Croatian Littoral has been performed. As it turned out, in the ...period between the two world wars and some fifteen years later this population knew 15 folk dances and 7 pair dances, among which was bećarac. Between 1989 and 2015, 29 bećarac dances were discovered in Drežnica, Bajmok, and Subotica, where many people from Drežnica settled after World War II. Secondly, the information on songs recordings and the names of song tellers, singers and dancers are given here. In addition, certain characteristics of the manner of singing and dancing are indicated here on the descriptive, verbal level, as well as the social oblivion which prevailed upon bećarac in both old and new surroundings and the attempt of its renewal. As it turns out, these songs tell about the physical appearance and habits of a bećar and a bećaruša, their social life (country gatherings, families, taverns), possible tensions and animosities between certain people and poverty of their families. All this is often presented in a cheerful and humorous manner. In this work, primarily because, in a way, ojkan and bećarac function as a system of adjoint dishes, a belief is stated that a systematization of social motifs on which ojkan from Drežnica is based upon could put a new light on the knowledge about bećarac and the social poetics which lies in its foundations.
The paper deals with the first Drežnica gathering held on November 17th 2012 at KPD "Jedinstvo-Egyseg" facilities in Bajmok, Bačka. The gathering was held on the 67th anniversary of the settling of ...the people from Drežnica and other places in Gorski kotar in Bajmok. The day of all Drežnica people migrations was celebrated on this occasion too, starting from the moment when the Serbian population began to inhabit the Ogulin-Gomir region and the Drežnica area in 1600 and later. The gathering has the elements of national, regional, and cultural identity. It also indicates the belonging to the Serbian people and Orthodox faith, the life on the borders of Gorski kotar and Lika, and the songs and dances from these parts. All the above mentioned elements of the gathering are more or less visible indicators of identity. In contrast to this, there are some elements of identity which cannot be seen at the gathering, but which are present in the participants’ consciousness. It is actually a regional identity, that is, the attitudes of the Drežnica people concerning the regional belonging of the Drežnica parts. According to some opinions, the Drežnica area is historically, geographically, culturally and administratively tied to Gorski kotar. They are the people of Drežnica and Gora and their number is quite significant. According to others, whose number is much smaller, Drežnica is a special and self-sufficient area which exists independently of other areas. They are the people of Drežnica. The third group, the younger generations in Bajmok, claims that Drežnica belongs to Lika. They think of themselves as the people of Drežnica and Lika. They seem to be a majority. By all odds, this opinion came as a consequence of the generation gap between the older and the younger generations, parents and children, as well as the migrations with which many cultural roots were pulled out. It also came as a consequence of the influences made by the native inhabitants, the Bunjevci, Croats, and Hungarians, on the newly settled Serbian population, who probably just returned the information received from the colonists about their ancestry to them. So, the basic question for further wider researches on this issue, to which a special attention should be paid, is what makes the people of Drežnica identify themselves with Lika. Osim što je biološka činjenica, šuma je društveno i kulturno konstruirana, dio je
kulturnih praksi, zapletena u proizvodne odnose, prostor konflikta, mapirana, razgraničena,
klasificirana, ozakonjena ...i regulirana.

Due to its characteristic geographical separation the area of Drežnica has managed to preserve its specifics for centuries, what makes it unique and interesting for further research. On the basis of ...published sources, literature and field research the paper endeavors to give a clearer picture of cultural-historical heritage of Drežnica and point to some unrecorded monuments, as well as the need of implementing systematic archaeological research of some localities. With this paper the authors would also like to point out the need for detailed study of the oldest modern history gravestones from the area of Gornja Drežnica, whose characteristic ornaments represent a valuable source of information on gradual leaving of medieval iconography recorded on standing tomb-stones, which were completely neglected in the professional and scientific literature.
